A BMW aficionado's dream come true.

The BMW CS began its journey in 1968 as the 2800CS, a Sport Coupe derived from the earlier 2000CS. In later years, the extensive modifications it underwent were so significant that BMW gave it a new codename: the E9. Compared to its predecessor, the E9 featured a lengthened wheelbase, major restyling, new suspension, and the exceptional M30 six-cylinder engine.

With ~170BHP, this engine was not only powerful but also remarkably smooth and flexible for its size. The car excelled in handling, ride comfort, and mechanical refinement, making it a well-rounded machine. The E9 model showcased BMW’s iconic design elements, including the legendary “Hoffmeister Kink” and Paul Bracq’s signature “shark nose.” The M30 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, paired with an automatic transmission, made this version a consummate grand tourer.

Meet the owner

“The 3.0 CS is one particular car I have always wanted to add to my collection”

Rob has been taken by the look of the BMW 3.0 CS for many years, for him it's the start of the shark nose era, seamless classic lines and of course the super cool pillarless windows. Searching for quite a while, he finally came across this excellent example located in Germany where it had been with the same owner for the past 25 years. Having had a full appraisal of the car, he knew everything was in good order, and it was shipped to be a part of his collection.

With some space now needed, unfortunately, for Rob, he has made the decision that the CS is one of the cars that has to be moved on.

Exterior

With a long bonnet, sloping roof line and the pillarless windows, BMW got the styling on point with the 3.0 CS.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 14-inch Mahle BBS wheels, these are in very good condition. There is a small amount of tarnishing, but nothing excessive, and the centres have been colour coded to match the exterior.

The tyres are a matching set of Goodyear Eagle NCT 70 and all have plenty of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery for detailed shots.

Bodywork

Looking around the CS, the bodywork is in excellent condition with no dings or dents spotted and all of the panels appear to align with an equal gap.

High-resolution images and videos have been provided, so please review all media to assess the car’s condition thoroughly.

Paint

Finished in light metallic blue, the car was repainted in Germany several years ago. It is believed to be the original colour with the subtle addition of some pinstriping and airbrushing in a darker blue along the top section of the doors and wing,s giving a super cool period and classy look. There is a small chip on the edge of the driver's door, but that could quite easily be touched in.

Glass and Trim

All windows are in excellent condition, with no noticeable scratches other than the usual age-related marks. The chrome trim is all in relatively good condition;. There is some tarnishing in places, but overall, for the age, we would say this is perfectly respectable.

Interior

Mainly original with a nice amount of patina just to show its 51-year age.

Seats and Carpets

As standard, the front seats were fabric, while the rear were leather. There is some patina in the front and rear, and some of the stitching has come away. However, luckily, this is on the seams, so could quite easily be repaired to prevent it from worsening. Both door cards are in good condition with no damage.

Rob has replaced the carpets; therefore, they are in excellent condition as the car hasn’t really been used. Inside the boot is clean and tidy, and there is a spare wheel present but this is different to the BBS’s fitted

Dashboard

The dashboard is generally in good condition. There is aa couple of small screw holes in the wood on the passenger side where something has been attached in the past. The instruments are working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of ~90,591 kilometres.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel has been replaced at some point with a Lecarra three-spoke wood rim wheel, which is in excellent condition. The BMW badged gear knob is also in good order.

Mechanics

Silky-smooth in-line six engine delivers approximately ~180bhp and 192lb-ft of torque

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0-litre engine fires up without hesitation and runs nice and smooth with no issues reported. On the road, the performance is great, easily capable of keeping up with modern-day traffic, but looking a million times cooler whilst it does.

Suspension and Brakes

Out in the CS, the ride in the classic coupe is brilliant thanks to the super smooth suspension and large profile tyres. It's time to sit back and relax in the luxury coupe. The BMW comes to a stop as you would expect in a straight line, and with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

The BMW 3.0 CS is a refined yet engaging experience. Its smooth, straight-six engine delivers ample power with a well-balanced chassis, giving responsive steering, offering a real connection with the road. Wrapped in wood, leather and fabric, the cabin adds a touch of understated luxury. Whether cruising or cornering, the 3.0 CS is effortlessly stylish, deeply rewarding, and let's face it, extremely cool.

Electrics and Other

There isn’t a tremendous amount of electrics in the CS, but what is there is working correctly, which includes the electric rear windows (the front ones are manual). There are rear speakers fitted, but no head unit, but it is believed that the wiring is there, ready to have one installed. Very rare to see and definitely worth a mention is the BMW glovebox torch, which is in place.

History and Paperwork

A Professional appraisal of the BMW was carried out before the purchase.

Being an import, there isn’t an enormous amount of paperwork that came with the BMW. There are some old invoices from Germany for some parts. The main point of interest is the full appraisal of the car carried out before Rob’s purchase, which gave him the confidence to go through with buying the car.

A BMW collector's dream! The CS is in fantastic condition and will make an ideal addition to any collection or indeed be used as a show car where it won’t disappoint on any show field.

We've carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and running an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, or has any outstanding finance. Note: This check does not include mileage verification.

    What is your reserve policy?

    A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

    If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

    Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

    Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

    Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes.
