Introduction
Paul Wright
A BMW aficionado's dream come true, beautiful and styling in a 3.0L coupe.
The BMW CS began its journey in 1968 as the 2800CS, a Sport Coupe derived from the earlier 2000CS. In later years, the extensive modifications it underwent were so significant that BMW gave it a new codename: the E9. Compared to its predecessor, the E9 featured a lengthened wheelbase, major restyling, new suspension, and the exceptional M30 six-cylinder engine. With ~170BHP, this engine was not only powerful but also remarkably smooth and flexible for its size. The car excelled in handling, ride comfort, and mechanical refinement, making it a well-rounded machine. The E9 model showcased BMW’s iconic design elements, including the legendary “Hoffmeister Kink” and Paul Bracq’s signature “shark nose.” The M30 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, paired with an automatic transmission, made this version a consummate grand tourer.
Coming to market from near ~2 year ownership, it has formed part of a private collection, was imported by the vendor after spending the previous ~25 years with the last owner in Germany. Believed to have had 3 former keepers, this car was restored in the 90s and presents in excellent condition to this day.

Hi Rob
Your CS looks good; I had a ’72 CS as our family car 20 yrs ago & have always liked them. I have a few detail questions re:
body: (from what l can see, all is good but I’d be grateful for detail confirmation of the following)
The mechs photos show a self-tapping screw locating the front n/s cill panel; please will you check & confirm that the cills are welded to the u/s of floor flanges?
The photos don’t include some of the important check areas:
Inside the glovebox, looking forward towards the bulkhead & outwards towards the wing, are these free of rust/ rust coloured stain?;
Looking inside the engine bay, just forward of the cabin bulkhead & low down on the inner wings, both sides, is there any rust/bubbling?;
Under the rear seat base (lifts out by hand): all solid/ no rust/bubbles?;
In the spare wheel well, under the spare wheel: all solid/ no rust/bubbles? ;
Looking upwards & to the rear of both front wheel-arches, there should be reinforcing bodywork at the top (resembles a rifle butt & is known as such): are these present & free of rust/bubbles? (in restos: often omitted, with flat panel installed instead);
windows: do all the electric windows go up & down smoothly (without hand assistance) & fairly quickly? (old, dry grease in mechs often results in slow &/or weak movement);
interior: is the boot toolkit complete/what’s missing?
(minor point)..As the last German inspection photo of the boot interior doesn’t show the vertical finishing panels (same as the base covers) I assume these & those to front/rear are missing? ;
general: Does everything work correctly/any issues?
Thanks
Andrew
Hello, Rob is travelling at the moment abroad and will reply as soon as he can. Cheers Adam
Hi Andrew , I am currently traveling abroad , but have contacted a friend to carry to a couple of your request as I have never removed the spare wheel nor the rear seats.
I can confirm this car is rust free with no signs of any bubbleing under the spare wheel is totally fine and beneath the rear seats both sills are all welded on flanges and from what we can see the riffle butt seem to be there.Absolutely everything works in the car , the only thing missing is a stereo , all electric windows to the rear work effortlessly and the fronts are manual and again work beautifully also the manually operated quarter lights
Sorry there are no tools in the box just a spare bulb.
Hope this helps and good luck if you decide to bid
