Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Up there with the heavyweights of the 90s luxury coupes - all Aluminium V8 and sleek European styling.
The 8 Series is truly an iconic car that was far ahead of its time when it was launched at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show. The E31 represents the first-generation variant of this grand tourer, based on the E24 6 Series platform. To boost sales, BMW introduced a 200kg lighter and more affordable 8 Series, badged as the 840Ci. This 2-door coupe is powered by the large and reliable V8 4.0L M60B40 engine, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, delivering a power output of ~286bhp.
This particular example comes to the market after ~25 years of ownership, with just 2 keeper before. The car has been resprayed at the start of this year in the factory colour of "Oxford Green Metallic", and a few interior elements worked on too, to bring the car up the standard you see today.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Brian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Brian,
Lovely e31 you have here.
I can see in the “On the road” video that the car required some extra cranks to start from the cold start.
Is it all like that or was just that cold start that did that ?
thanks
Hi, it was a coold but sunny day when the video and photos were shot. Trade Classics ask that we don’t pre-start the car before the photographer turns up so that was the first time that day. Generally it starts well at all other times.
Great,
thanks for the reply.
Hi Brian
Apologies if my question is answered in lengthy description!
When was the timing chain last replaced and do you have invoice?
Thanks
Wyn
Your question Is not covered in the description. However I had the cylinder head skimmed at 100000 miles after an overheating issue. I suspect it was replaced then and it’s been fine since.
Hi Brian
Appreciate swift reply
Thanks
Just found the invoice. It was in October 2006. Cylinder head rebuild at 131660 miles. It does not mention new timing chain. But as I said the engine has run perfectly since.
