Introduction

The Z3 M coupe is a fascinating car but it's not just the unmistakable styling that packs a punch.
Officially called the M coupe, or more colloquially the “clown shoe”, this car still splits opinion today. With its distinctive “breadvan” styling and an M3 drivetrain packed into a wheelbase shorter than a 911. There's no doubt, however, that BMW’s skunkworks engineers, working after hours and initially without official sanction, came up with a legendary car that turns heads and offers driving thrills unlike anything else this side of Blackpool. Loosely based on the Z3 roadster, the coupe addressed all its weaknesses with a much stiffer chassis (courtesy of the tin top) and significantly more power courtesy of BMW's astonishing S50 straight-6. This engine, which also powered the E36 M3, was the first naturally aspirated production engine to produce 100BHP per litre.
Just under 1,000 Z3 M coupes were imported into the UK and they quickly became the stuff of legend – love or loathe the looks, they were utterly unique at the time. Combining BMW's 90s build quality, strong engines, and muscular looks, the Z3 M coupe is already fast becoming a modern classic. There has been a steady appreciation in value since the last one left the production line in 2002, and values have been climbing apace in recent years.
The 1999 example you see here has a great service history, including the all-important running in service, and has had the Vanos replaced and the boot floor strengthened– both of these are issues that, whether you buy this particular car or not, you absolutely must check with any seller. Having covered 71,000 miles, this is considered a relatively low-mileage M Coupe with many having covered over 100,000 miles, and that lower mileage shines through in the condition.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Sanj, would you accept £15k. I’m really interested
Hi it’s an auction so you would need to bid
Thanks
Hi,
When and where was the very last service and any recent work
Thanks
Hi
The car was last serviced September last year at a independent garage in Birmingham. It’s done around 300 miles since then. The car has been in storage for most of the year so hasn’t needed anything extra doing.
Hi Sanj
What’s the reserve on the car ?
Thanks
Hi Rob,
All reserves on cars are not disclosed prior to the auction ending. If a car doesn’t have a reserve price, we make it as “No Reserve”.
Hope that helps.

Hi Sanj
looking at the history and photos the cars had plenty of services which is good, but it appears the cars first MOT was in 2005 should it not have been in 2003?
Hi Derek, iv looked through all the paperwork and i cant find the 2003 MOT. The gov website only became electronic in 2005 thats why its showing as the earliest MOT.Looking through the history the car was serviced and looked after by Vines of guilford BMW through those years and the 2005 MOT was done there. i would assume the first MOT in 2003 was done there too, im sure if they were called they would be able to confirm this. Thanks
Hi Sanj,
Can you advise of the make of the exhaust , audio head unit and the latest suspension components ?
Thanks,
Asish
Hi Asish
As far as I could tell the exhaust looked original to me the invoice in the paperwork showed the original back boxes were repaired etc. The tail tips and rear boxes look standard.
The car has uprated spax springs with bilstein shocks. Also it has H&R uprated anti roll bars,
It’s quite confusing to tell from all the paperwork as it’s all product numbers, but it’s all documented in the receipts
The stereo is a pioneer Deh x8700 dab
Hope this helps
Thanks Sanj
Thanks Sanj – appreciated. Do you have any records of the service history between 2006 and 2009? I can’t seen the stamps for this, at least not clearly. Thank you.
thanks asish looking through the service book there is a tick in there for 2007 but i cant find any documentation for the service for that period of time and where it was done.
Hey buddy, do you know how much of her original paint she’s wearing?
Hi , when i bought the car last year as far as i could tell the front bumper and bonnet may have been sprayed, the rest of the paint work looks original
Thanks Sanj.
