Recognised as using one of the smoothest V8 engines of the era, the flagship V8 model of the second generation 6 Series was pitched as the last word in BMW's reputation for cutting-edge technology and sophistication. Supremely comfortable, the 650i could also fulfil a drivers' need to tackle a twisty lane with confidence. With its inbuilt ergonomics, the driving position is near perfect and the standard equipment along with the practical and capacious boot makes it a truly practical experience.

This 2005 Sport model has a generous equipment list, which includes an impressive media entertainment package, temperature adjustable heated front seats as well as a high-beam assistant and parking distance control system. It comes with a good service history, an MOT to September 2022 and a presentation that indicates a series of careful owners over the years.

Meet the owner

It's an awesome car that I originally bought to use in the summer months.

Jeff is a car enthusiast who has owned a number of impressive models over the years, and he was looking for a 650i convertible to use as a summer vehicle. Jeff intended to keep it as a long-term investment, but due to an unforeseen but favourable change in job circumstances, that will need him to travel, he has opted to sell the BMW after only a short time in his possession.

Even after these years, the car maintains an imposing presence on the roads - it's difficult to believe it's sixteen years old now.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19" Ellipsoid alloys are in excellent condition with evidence that two of them have seen a recent refurbishment.

The tyres are a mix of quality brands; the front Dunlops date from 2014, and the rear items are more recent items, and all display good tread with no significant wear that we could see.

Bodywork

The body presents very well, with no outstanding issues in relation to age or damage that we saw on our visit. The structure looks solid with a healthy panel fit and even gaps on all of the doors and panels. The doors open and close without obstruction, with all the hinges and struts doing their job correctly.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The coverage of paint is well presented, with no evidence of poor finishing or matting. The grey hue is a classic timeless BMW colour that helps to make the car appear much younger than it is.

There are minor signs of age noted but the lustre has lasted well and with the exception of a slightly pockmarked front bumper - likely to be stone chip damage - the car would respond very well to a specialist detailer treatment.

The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good condition throughout, with no significant damage noted with the exception of a small stone chip repair on the offside area of the windscreen, but it is well out of the driver's vision and not flagged up as an advisory.

The high gloss shadow line trim is complete, with no outstanding issues or damage.

The centre brake light lens is slightly ill-fitting .

Extremely well equipped, this example has almost every option to hand!

Seats and Carpets

The leather sports seats are in good condition, with less wear than would be expected given the car's age and mileage - with no significant issues.

The electric functions are all said to work by the owner.

The carpets are good, with no damage or signs of dampness. The mats are in good condition - simply needing a valet to bring them up to scratch.

The anthracite headlining shows white patches above the front passenger seats.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in very good shape, with very little to mark it down, with the smallest of wear noted on the right-hand side of the hand brake.

The facia leather, fine wood trim and plastics are free of significant marks, with all dials, switches and controls all in good condition, and all said to function.

The air-con blows icy-cold and the owner has not reported any issues in regards to the media system, which includes Sat Nav, multi-disc CD player, DVD and voice control, on top of the i-drive facility.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The M Sport leather steering wheel is well presented with no significant damage or signs of wear - the gear lever is in good shape too.

Mechanics

Deceptively rapid, the car fulfils its tasks with complete confidence.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start did not pose any issues in regards to the car's ability to fire up. The engine ran smoothly with no undulations or unwanted noises. All of the dashboard warning lights remained off as the engine idled. The exhaust did not produce excess smoke at any point, and the owner has not reported any trouble from oil pressure or engine temperature gauges.

On the day the car didn't appear to reveal signs of leaking fluids either. The gearbox performs well, with no reported issues with its function, selecting gears smoothly with no slippage.

Suspension and Brakes

The car suspension travel did not reveal any issues, no thuds or creaks were heard. The brakes were more than capable of dealing with the stop-start traffic, with no observations of pulling, grinding or squeals at higher speeds.

The Drive

The thumping V8 engine is certainly the main appeal of the car, but in typical BMW fashion, the quality of the cars ride and the effortless character of the 650i means that the car is perfectly suited as a long-distance cruiser.

The BMW is all about style, the journey and its presence of arrival. The body feels taut and the Gaudi-influenced convertible still looks sensational, with a cosseted ride in sumptuous comfort.

The roof operation is seamless, with no strains or delays in the raising and retraction of the roof.

History and Paperwork

The car comes with a full complement of service stamps - take a look.

The car has a healthy and regular schedule of servicing, with additional invoices to point to regular maintenance of the brakes and tyres. The car has not needed much else in terms of repairs, strongly suggesting that the car has been well looked after by its consecutive owners. It comes with both of its keys, its original service book and handbook. The car received its most recent service in September 2021 and has a ticket to September 2022.

Good morning David,

Jeff has trouble logging in and asked me to relay a message to you in response to your questions.

Jeff says that he chip in windscreen is not an issue for MOT which he will extend to 12 months next week and the car drives perfectly like a brand new £60k car as it was 16 years ago. Jeff believes the car is a bargain.
