FOR SALE

2008 BMW M5 (E60)

Now available for sale

Introduction

Kulraj Singh Salh
COO

The BMW M5 (E60), a proper super saloon with its V10 / SMG drivetrain powering 500BHP to the rear wheels.

Appraised for it's handling, this model received new and improved traction and stability control plus a limited-slip differential to complement its 50:50 weight distribution. This coupled with the V10 engine and 7 speed gearbox having links to F1 made for a potent mix.

We really like the look of this example, a great choice of colour, well optioned, and importantly having had the rod bearings replaced this summer with a bill to the tune of over ~£5,000.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kulraj after meeting Martin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Cars are a passion of mine, it's something my son and I like to dabble in together, the more exotic the better.

Martin and his son love a range of cars, old and new, but all tending to be specialist cars like this M5. With the V10 power plant, subtle sporty touches to the exterior, it's a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing that they wanted to experience and enjoy themselves.

During Martin's ownership of this BMW, he's gone over and above when it comes to maintenance. This summer he had the dreaded rod bearing issue seen too, and will also be having the wheels refurbished for the new seller. More recently with the pandemic though, the car is being used less and less, and so the time has come to find it a new home.

Exterior

A wolf in sheep's clothing, the M5 has subtle M-division touches; black gloss grills, M-sport side vents and the unmissable quad sports exhaust that kind of give it away. This is no car to mess with.

Wheels and Tyres

This BMW M5 example is fitted with its original 19” M sport 166 style alloys, they look really good on this model, the style matching the flared led lights.

Martin is due to have them refurbished so they’ll be perfect for the winning bidder. They are wrapped in Kumho Ecsta le Sport’s and they look in good condition with lots of tread left. Take a look through the media we took to see the detail.

Bodywork

We really like the look of this BMW M5 E60, gone are the days of boxy body shapes, this was designed to cut through the air like an aerodynamic shark.

The condition of this cars bodywork is sound, importantly all panel gaps look correct to us and aligned with no signs of damage as photographed.

Paint

Finished in Silverstone II, we really like the look of the paint, it’s even in finish and colour. It's a hard colour to photograph, but we were lucky to have some cloud cover to allow the blue in the paint to come through.

Upon inspection, we noticed a small scratch on the front offside bumper, and rear offside bumper as pictured. These appear to be small parking nicks, but looking at the bigger picture the car looks stunning.

Glass and Trim

All in great condition with no issues, please view the photos and videos for a more detailed view.

Interior

A super saloon, active bolsters hold your body in place as the g-forces escalate, but all in proper comfort.

Seats and Carpets

With the optional adaptive seats installed in this example, BMW have designed a very luxurious cabin, the seats the hug you in the corners and on the commute into the office, you’ll want to spend a lot of time in here.

The "Silverstone" coloured leather interior brightens the space. Upon or visit we noticed the rear centre seat lower back has some marks on it, but overall the condition of the interior is very good, please view the images for a more detailed overview of this space.

Dashboard

The instrument panel is clean, crisp and clearly legible on this well-kept example.

All buttons are clean, and Martin tells us all the dials are functioning as expected, this car features a head up display that was displaying crisply in the windscreen.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Three-spoke M-Sport steering wheel with paddle shifters fitted here. The leather is bound with dual colour M-Sport stitching a classy touch that gives it a special feel.

The gear selector is a neat package in the centre console. Both the selector and steering wheel are in very good condition and look to be in line with the mileage and age of the car.

Mechanics

The 5.0L V10 naturally aspirated engine, this is what this car is all about, revving to over 8,000RPM and delivering you 500BHP.

Engine and Gearbox

The main feature of this super saloon is the Formula 1 linked 5.0L V10, adding an extra 100BHP over the previous generation M5.

Martin mentions that the engine pulls just as it should, and as we've mentioned has had the preventative work for the rod bearing issue actioned.

This car was only available with a 7-speed automatic SMG gearbox, a perfect partner of the 5.0L V10. Lots of buttons and controls let you alter the veracity of the shift changes, as well as of course taking control of the changes yourself via the paddle shifters.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with large steel brake discs this car having been regularly serviced throughout its life, the suspension and brakes have always been tended to when needed e.g. brake fluid and safety checks.

Martin assures us that the car handles as you'd expect from this BMW of this calibre and stops just as it should do too.

The Drive

A practical super saloon that's great for long distances and road trips with the family, including luggage, or an aggressive race car if you took it to the track, this car can do it all.

Electrics and Other

Lots of electrical options and buttons to press and control. Buttons to adjust the electrical dampeners and stiffness settings, stability control, throttle response, all-electric windows and fully adjustable front seats. The iDrive system is also installed on this M-division example along with a rev counter HUD unit.

This is a well optioned example and includes a sunroof too, as well as Harman Kardon speaker system amongst other options like the seats. Martin reports that all electrics are working as expected.

History and Paperwork

Lots of history, and importantly a big rebuild and refresh of the car in May 2020 for the new owner to enjoy.

This car has a great specification including sunroof and Harmon Kardon speaker system and importantly the optional adaptive seat system, in amongst the usual things such as parking aids all round that you'd expect on an executing saloon. In Martin's ownership, he's actioned a major service and rebuild of the car (to the cost of over £5,000) to ensure it doesn't suffer from the rod bearing issue that the E60 V10 is known for. This puts the car in a great position for the new owner to enjoy from the get go.

Martin will be actioning a fresh MOT for the car prior to sale and collection to the successful bidder.

We have actioned our usual checks;
- Photo ID
- V5C (dealer not recorded as an additional owner on the logbook)
- HPi clear

Hi, most of the cars history is Glasgow but the recent brakes/Vanos/big-end work is Crawley and the car is located in London. When did the car move to London and how long have you owned it ? Thanks

In the list of services I count 6 services when a car of this age should have had 8 services. Can you explain why? Also someone did ask why there was no service from 2014 to 2020? But your reply wasn’t clear, could you please answer again?
Many thanks

Hi,
Lovely car, great to see you took care of it.

I ran a history check and the car is showing with outstanding finance from 05/04/2016 with Creation Consumer Finance Ltd.
Can you advise on this.

Thanks

Hi Cillian,

We use cap-hpi.com for our checks, and it came back as clear, they are one of the leading providers of this information.

We’ve found in the past that other cheaper providers often don’t have all the data. Are you sure you put the registration number in correctly also. I’ll email you a copy of the check we have.

Best,

Kulraj

Thanks Kulraj,

I used car analytics and they came back with those details.
Agreement number is Y8106731X390018. Reg SF08 WEC

Perhaps you or the owner could clarify with Creation Consumer Finance as to why they haven’t cleared it.

Thanks,
Cillian

Hi, Why is there no MOT on the car?

Hi

By the way, the M5 looks in pristine condition. And it’s apparent you have taken the upmost care with the car.

Although I do have a few questions to ask, I would greatly appreciate a reply.

I wonder if you know how many previous owners the vehicle has?

Also, how come there was a 6 year gap between services in 2014 to 2020.

Also do you know if the Vanos was
inspected or worked on during the time of the Rod bearings replacement?

Also do you know when the Clutch was last replaced.

Any problems with the throttle actuators or SMG gearbox?

Forgive me with these questions, these beautiful cars have been plagued with these in the past.

Regards
Dave

Hi TriSteve, we run traditional style auctions where the reserve isn’t disclosed. When the bidding has finished tomorrow at 7.30PM, if the reserve has been met, the high bidder is notified. Best, Kulraj
