You only need the essentials for a good time, just a short drive and the Caterham Supersprint proves it's the most fun money can buy.
The Caterham 7 is a super-light (545kg) sportscar produced by Caterham. It's based on the Lotus 7 (which was only available in kit/factory-build form from Lotus from 1957 to 1972). Caterham bought the rights to the design and today offer both the Seven as a kit and fully assembled cars. There were various variations of the Seven over the years and in 1982, Caterham produced the 1700 Supersprint, of which only 440 were ever produced, the car featured a Ford Kent 1.7L.
This lovely low mileage and rare Supersprint has been used sparingly over the years, yet features an extensive and MOT history. It's has been owned and enjoyed by Mike for the past 20 years.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Mike the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Why is the hip check unfavourable?
Hi – I wonder if you could clarify the position on the stolen/recovered element of the car’s history? Did the insurance company write the car off as it states that a dealer bought the car from the insurance company? What I’d like to know is what happens when a HPI check is carried out on the car – does it come up as stolen/recovered/written off? Hope you can advise.
Hi, It was before my ownership but my understanding is as follows :
The car was stolen at some time in 1996/97and later advertised for sale. It came to the notice of the police or the original owner and was recovered unscathed in January 1998. The owner had already bought a replacement so I assume the insurer disposed of the car via auction or to a dealer. It was then purchased by the gentlemen I bought it from. As far as HPI is concerned, I did a check when I bought it and I am fairly sure it was listed as stolen/recovered but not as a write-off. If you run your own check, I think this should prove to be the case.
Regards,
Mike
Hi Andrew,
Just done my own HPI check. It states “Vehicle Recorded As THEFT RCVD CONDITION UNKNOWN On Condition Alert Register”. This basically supports my information on stolen/recovered status. I am not aware of any long term detriment to the car as a result of the theft.

Mike
That Q-registration should have been highlighted, it has a very strong influence on values. Is there any paperwork showing who built it? Thanks for your time.
Hello Jeremy, I felt that the Q reg did not need to be highlighted since it appears on so many pieces of paperwork in the History and Paperwork section. If you care to take a look at the letter from Guy Munday of SGT, you will see that it was sold by Caterham as a Series 3 kit for home build. The letter also gives the name of the first owner and charts the history of the first 6 years of the car’s life.
Regards,
Mike
Thanks, that makes it clear
What is reg no please

Hi Paul, I think your question has already been answered but you will find the reg no on all the images under the heading History and Paperwork.

Hi it’s Adam from Trade Classics – this comment doesn’t make sense to me. Please can you explain. Placing a bid and winning a car is a contractual purchase, so please can you call us or email us before you place another bid. Thanks Adam
