Introduction

A classic hot hatch for just £4.50?

They said we could never top our auctions… but we think this changes the game! This is our first ever raffle, and you could win the classic Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9.

The high-performance GTi variant was initially introduced in 1984 with a 1.6L engine, followed by the 1.9L GTi, equipped with an XU9JA engine delivering ~128 BHP. Notably, the 1.9L GTi's light weight, at just ~900 KG, enabled it to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in ~7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of ~127 MPH, right from the factory. The 1.9L version also came with half-leather seats, disc brakes on all corners, and 15" Speedline SL299 alloys.

Exterior

The beautifully characteristic GTi, regarded as one of the greatest hot hatches of all time!

Wheels and Tyres

Sitting on the correct 15” Speedline alloy wheels that came with the 1.9L, these have been freshly refurbished so look excellent. The tyres are decent too, no advisories on the most recent MOT.

Bodywork

The Peugeot 205 GTI’s sleek, compact lines defined 80s automotive design, and this example from 1987 stays true to that legacy. Its graphite grey finish highlights the car’s sporty silhouette, with iconic flared arches and an unmistakable stance, sure it might have the odd battle scar here or there, but this is a car that still turns heads today.

Paint

Draped in graphite grey, this 205 GTI embodies understated sophistication. The metallic finish accentuates its sharp angles and smooth contours, giving it a timeless appeal that looks just as fresh as it did back in the late 80s. It has the odd mark on the doors etc, part of the patina that comes from over 30 years on the road.

Glass and Trim

The details matter, and this GTI doesn’t disappoint. The glass looks great, and the trim for the 1.9 is all there as you'd expect. This car has the added benefit of a spoiler to the rear hatch, very much in keeping with the hot hatch appeal.

Interior

This interior will bring all those nostalgic feelings of a bygone era back.

Seats and Carpets

Step inside and be transported to a simpler, sportier time. The bolstered seats, finished in the GTI’s signature fabric pattern, are as comfortable as they are stylish—designed to keep you firmly in place during spirited drives.

Dashboard

The 205 GTI’s dash is a masterclass in clean, driver-focused design. Classic analog dials, easy-to-reach controls, and a touch of 80s charm make this interior as functional as it is nostalgic. This car has the benefit of some additional gauges to keep you informed how the engine is performing.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The signature GTI steering wheel offers a tactile connection to the road. Its compact, grippy design ensures precise handling, putting you firmly in control of every twist and turn. The gearstick is a similar case too, with red detailing to match the car.

Mechanics

~128BHP from a perky little 1.9L that likes to be revved, in a what can only be described a lightweight package, what's not to like!

Engine and Gearbox

Under the hood lies the beating heart of this legend; a 1.9L engine that delivers punchy performance and a soundtrack that petrolheads dream of. It’s the perfect balance of raw power and everyday usability. This cars had servicing and tuning this year, and so the figures of ~128BHP look to still hold true.

The gearbox is a 5 speed, and engages well on the road, a good pairing for the 1.9L. Let's just say the gating is classic, but that's all part of the appeal with these!

Suspension and Brakes

Known for its nimble handling, the 205 GTI’s suspension delivers a thrilling, responsive drive. Whether carving through corners or cruising city streets, this hot hatch lives up to its legendary reputation. The brakes match up too, easy to bring this light car to a stop.

The Drive

Behind the wheel, the 205 GTI is pure joy. Its lightweight chassis, precise steering, and spirited engine combine for a driving experience that’s as engaging today as it was when it first hit the road in 1987. A true enthusiast’s car!

Electrics and Other

These hot hatches came with some features you might be surprised by, electric windows! This car also has some added gauges to show things like charging from the alternator etc, and this car has a more modern Sony stereo too.

History and Paperwork

This car comes with 2 folders full of paperwork, has been serviced and tuned this year so it's still pushing out ~128BHP, we think at £4.50 you can look past the mileage.

The car has a neatly organised set of invoices for servicing, parts, remedial work as needed over time. It's been serviced this year with new spark plugs and also tuned and tested on a rolling road. We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Note, this does not include a mileage history check. Terms and conditions apply.
