Introduction

Isaac Wass
Professional Consigner

The Sovereign offers British luxury at its very best - it's easy to see why it's so desirable with its beautifully smooth powerplant and leather-lined cabin.

Manufactured by Jaguar Cars between 1966 to 1983, this is the Series II Sovereign based on the XJ6. The car was given a raised front bumper and shallower grille. In 1975 we saw the introduction of limited two years of the two-door variant, equipped with a mighty 4.2L engine and utilising the shorter wheelbase platform.

This luxurious white over red leather example belonged to Jonathan's late father, who sadly passed a few years ago. Jonathan has kept the car since and would love to find it a new home, a like-minded Daimler enthusiast to take over ownership and have as much joy as his father did with the mighty 4.2L under the hood.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Isaac after meeting Jonathan the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

My dads dream car was the Daimler Coupe for many many years, he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement driving this example.

Jonathan came into ownership of the Daimler Coupe 2 years ago, inheriting the car when his dad passed. He mentions his dad absolutely loved the car and had always dreamed of owning a coupe, but being a family man and having many dogs, owning one simply wasn't practical.

It wasn't until later in life, that he purchased this Series II coupe locally, whereby he treasured it, only taking it out on the weekend and for family holidays. Jonathan will be happy to see another like-minded Daimler enthusiast take over ownership and have as much joy as his father did driving the big powerful 4.2L coupe around. He'll be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Few cars this age can offer such style and comfort, the Sovereign has aged like a fine wine.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes equipped with 15" chrome dish wheels, all of which appear in good shape with some light signs of surface corrosion. Catch this early and you'd have a lovely set of refurbished wheels.

The wheels are wrapped in Michelin XDX tyres, with the rear offside tyre being the exception and wrapped in Avon Turbo Speed '70s. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer view.

Bodywork

We really like the classic proportions of this luxurious coupe, a true masterpiece. The bodywork of the car appears generally good, all the panel gaps are ok for a 70s classic, not perfect. When getting very close we did notice some bubbling around the bottom of the nearside panels of the car, along with some surface rust under the doors and when you lift the carpets up.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in an old English white paired with a black vinyl roof, the finish on the paint appears in good condition, but it is showing its age in some areas. When you look closely around the headlights there is some signs of cracking in the paint, and there are a few nicks across the car in general. The bonnet looks to have been painted at some point and does show a slight different shade in some light.

The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears in very good condition with no major cracks, chips or discoloration observed on our visit. All the window rubbers and seals appear in good condition in line with the age and mileage. The brightwork appears generally good all around with the slightest signs of pitting in areas.

We have captured high-resolution photos and videos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the exterior.

Interior

Travel in comfort and relax within this wood and leather-lined cabin.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious red leather seats, door cards, and carpets. The cabin of this Daimler is a really lovely place to spend any time travelling. As pictured, the drivers seat has wear to the bolsters in line with the age and mileage, and the drivers head rest has lost a bit of its shape. The rest of the seats have seen less use but still show patina.

Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look inside this Daimler.

Dashboard

A lovely wooden dashboard which pairs so well to the rest of the interior. All the numbers and dials are clean, clear and legible.

Please view the images to see the dashboard in more detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with a Daimler logo branded steering wheel and chromed automatic gear selector, the condition of both items appears very good for the age of the car.

Mechanics

A wonderfully smooth six-cylinder 4.2L powerplant, these coupes had plenty of performance to offer.

Engine and Gearbox

A 4.2L Jaguar XK engine powers this classic coupe. This engine is mated to an automatic gearbox for those smooth drives down to the coast.

Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath.

Suspension and Brakes

This car is appraised for its smooth handling and control on the road.

Jonathan assures us that the car handles as you'd expect for a luxury saloon of this calibre, and stops just as it should do too.

The Drive

Designed and manufactured to be extremely smooth and reliable with extra room for luggage, makes this a very practical classic.

One of Daimler's largest cars on the road at the time - this car was very luxurious and still is today, a new benchmark was set for the luxury car market.

Electrics and Other

Jonathan reports that all electrics are working as expected.

History and Paperwork

UK, RHD, Finished in a desirable White over Red leather interior, this one classy land yacht ready to be driven and cherished.

As Jonathan is selling the car from his late father, the car comes with very little paperwork or provenance. It does come with its original Daimler passport with stamps dating back to 1975.

Jonathan will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
