A favourite of many a Royal Family, this DS420 is ready for official duties.

The Daimler DS420 aka the Daimler Limousine was produced between 1968 up until '92. The car was designed for official use and was very popular with chauffeur services and hoteliers. Used as an official state car in many countries, no other limousine model has been delivered to more reigning monarchs than the DS420.

Built on the floorplan of the Jaguar 420G, with the wheel base extended 21", the car was graced with the traditional Daimler fluted grille and Jaguar 420G headlights. The car also shared the twin 38L fuel tanks in each of the rear wings, each with its own electric SU pump selected on the dashboard.

This cream DS420 Limousine has been owned by Clive for the previous 8 years, used in his now closed wedding events business, the car is ready for its luxury transportation duties.

Meet the owner

The DS420 has served me very well over the past years as a professional chauffeur.

Clive has loved driving this DS420 over the previous 8 years, covering ~8,000 miles in the car over his careful ownership. He closed the wedding events business a few years ago, and so now the car has just been used for the odd journey to keep it ticking over.

He's used the car occasionally as a luxury wedding chauffeur and meanwhile can often be found cleaning and polishing the DS420 on the weekend. With the car no longer needed to be put to work, and a change in circumstance for Clive, he's looking to find the car a new home. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

A design that barely changed in ~25 years of manufacture, it's all about passenger comfort.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels look excellent on this example, painted in the same color as the body and featuring chrome hubs with the Daimler logo.

The tyres look in great condition with plenty of tread for the new owner. Take a look through the photos and video footage of the exterior.

Bodywork

A car with vast panels to cocoon the passengers in comfort, all the panel gaps look correct as you would expect from a luxury limousine of this calibre.

Paint

The paint looks great on this example, we like the cream colourway which allows the car to set the scene at any wedding. As you would expect the paint is even in finish and colour across all panels.

When getting close to this example we did notice a little wear under the front windscreen and rear window. The car was originally black, but Clive had the car painted cream for use in his wedding event business.

Glass and Trim

Interior

A luxurious interior trimmed in leather and wood, masses of cabin space for the passengers.

Seats and Carpets

The DS420 Limousine offers a luxurious space for 6 on premium leather. The seats have held their shape over the past 35 years, but there is some cracking and wear, to the rear passenger seat and drivers seat.

The grey carpets look good, Clive has fitted sheepskin carpets in the rear to increase the luxury. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the interior.

Dashboard

A luxurious display of controls gauges and switches set in wood for the driver to use.

The burl walnut dash looks excellent in this example, with all the gauges clear and easily legible. Clive reports all the buttons and gauges are working well on this luxury limousine with no problems noted.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The DS420 had a fascia very similar to contemporary Mark X and 420G Jaguars retaining the "pencil-thin" steering wheel you see on Daimlers.

The steering wheel appears in very good condition along with the automatic gear selector for the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

The all-independent suspension provides excellent ride characteristics, while the six-cylinder XK engine ensured no shortage of power.

Engine and Gearbox

The DS420 power-plant was a 4,235cc Jaguar XK straight-six, coupled to a silky smooth three-speed automatic gearbox.

Clive reports a great drive in the DS420, please take a look at the mechanical video to see Clive starting the car from cold without any fuss.

Suspension and Brakes

4-wheel independent suspension offered a "cloud-like" drive in this DS420 Limousine, while the 4-wheel servo-assisted disc brakes tame the XK straight-six engine.

Just like the engine, the suspension and brakes have always been given the attention they deserve and Clive reports no unusual sounds or knocks from the suspension and notes the brakes are very responsive with no issues.

Not very happy. I want to bid on this car but I have not received my account confirmation email. Amazingly enough an email to sales works and I got an automated confirmation reply. Not great for sellers if folk cant bid!

Any leaks from the front and back windscreens
Door bottoms are the filled with filler floor pans zy rusty holes
One last thing any sigsbof water in the oil
Can I please have the reg number to do checks
