Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Consigner and Editor

Sophisticated with an understated style, the Ferrari 456 GT carries itself with elegance and devastating power.

1992 brought in the latest evolution of the V12 Ferrari Grand Tourer. Aside from the praise for its elegant styling, it was notable for being the first new four-seater by Maranello in two decades. Perched at the top of the Ferrari price range, the 2+2 coupe quickly found an appreciative customer base and at the time of its release, established itself as the fastest front-engine car in the world. The beautifully balanced aerodynamic styling by Pininfarina with exterior styling cues that could be attributed to the Daytona, the elegant lines matched with sensational performance, and thanks to its generous boot space and practical airy comfortable cabin, its talents were more useful than most of the Supercars of the era.

The alloy body shell, with composite panels, sat on a steel-tube framed chassis and was powered by an all-new 5.5-litre V12 engine producing ~442BHP. The front engine - transaxle gearbox - rear wheel drive layout provided a perfectly balanced weight ratio, making the 456 GT a usable everyday supercar with an element of exclusivity.

Believed to be just one of a handful of RHD "Azzurro Blue" 456 GTs in the UK, this well-presented 1998 car with a tan leather interior reads just ~21,354 miles on the clock, and comes to market from ~26 year ownership. It comes with Ferrari and Ferrari specialist servicing history, owner's wallet, Ferrari tool kit case, two keys and an MOT to May 2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Robert the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The last of the truly analogue Ferrari's in my opinion, it's a beautiful drive.

Robert bought the car in June 1998 and it has formed part of a collection of prestige cars in his garage. Used sparingly over the years, Robert has appreciated the effortless V12 power and interior space and its ability to accommodate his golf clubs.

Lack of use is the main reason why he has decided to sell the car. Robert will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The Azzurro Blue colourway really highlights the 456 GT's timeless design.

Wheels and Tyres

The 17” 5 spoke alloys have lasted well, with minor signs of age noted in places. They are a period design for sure, the tyre profile helping to give this GT a relaxed ride.

Fitted with a set of Bridgestone tyres, they are over 10 years old but show even and legal tread.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this car looks good, it is free of dents and the panel work is flush to the body with visually tight panel gaps. The doors open and close easily and show good seals. The underside of the car appears solid. We didn’t spot anything untoward in the wheel wells, engine bay, suspension mounts or boot floor.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The appealing "Azzurro Blue" paint has good coverage, with an even smooth lustre. There are a handful of paint touch-ups on the nose and a few minor surface marks elsewhere. There were a handful of under paint bubbles noted, specifically on the offside rear outer lower sill, nearside outer sill near the door aperture and a touch around the indicator. There is also a small blemish on the rear off-side wing above the wheel arch.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen and its seal are in good shape, having been replaced in 2005. The driver's side passenger door rubbers show signs of age, with the seal to the glass not looking the best as pictured. The base of the rear screen has turned a little milky with de-lamination. The side glass drops and rises without problems.

The lights and lenses are in good shape, both headlamps pop up without fault. The bumpers are level and well-mounted. The rest of the body trim is neatly presented.

Interior

The combination of low miles and careful ownership over a long time has had a positive effect on the cabin presentation.

Seats and Carpets

The tan leather seats are in good shape with good stitching, no marks other than mild scuffing on the base and a little bolster wear on the driver seat.

The carpets and mats are in good shape, with no signs of dampness. The boot appears to have been only lightly used and comes complete with its Ferrari tool kit.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents well, the leather is free of scuffs or bleaching. The binnacle has a little loose trim, the heater control backing and some bezels/apertures have aged somewhat but overall the actual dials, controls and switchgear are in positive condition and all are said to function as they should.

The door cards, rest of the trim and headlining are tidy and free of marks.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The period, simple 3 spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and looks good. The open gated manual gearbox is a centre-piece in the cabin and looks great too.

Mechanics

With a reputation for mechanical durability, the unstressed V12 has been proven to be reliable.

Engine and Gearbox

The car fires up without hesitation, free of unwanted wobbles or engine undulations. The engine management lights all remained off, the only light that stayed on was the rear spoiler error light which Robert will sort out before the car is dispatched to its new owner. Other than the usual cold weather condensation, there were no excessive exhaust fumes.

The six-speed manual gearbox is slick in operation with no reported issues with its use, the reverse gear was replaced in 2013. The clutch operates without any problems. The engine presents well with some typical signs of age noted cosmetically, but the important elements such as hoses and ancillaries are all good. The car was free of leaks on the day.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension dealt with the roads well, without any negative feedback, we didn’t hear any thuds or unwanted mechanical noises during the test drive.

The car brakes without fault and an emergency stop was conducted with no ill effects. The car brakes smoothly and evenly under normal driving conditions, free of squeals or vibrations.

The Drive

The flexibility of the V12 engine impresses, and while cruising along at under 3,000 rpm, the car felt docile and manageable. However, when pushed the grip and balance of the 456 gave plenty of confidence and cornering around the damp roads, the Ferrari is truly planted. Very much a grand tourer, there’s ~442 bhp waiting to be unleashed offering brisk acceleration if needed but in the real world that torque is far more useful.

The bassy rumble of the engine, throttle cable set-up, gated gearbox and lack of digital driver aids are part of the 456 GT’s analogue appeal, the steering comes alive as we increased the speed and is demonstrated to provide enough feel without play or unwanted vibrations.

Electrics and Other

The CD/FM head unit facia light doesn’t light up but is functional. The driver's side electric seat forward/tilt motion is not operational but Robert will investigate, all other electrical elements are working, as far as Robert is aware. Another point to mention is that the boot lid struts are a little weak.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~26 year ownership, there are invoices tallying up to over £30,000 and servicing records be Ferrari main dealers.

Originally built and ordered for the RHD Singapore market, the car was amongst a large number of new Ferraris imported into the UK via a private specialist. On entry into the UK the car was PDI by main Ferrari dealer Lancaster, 03/06/98, and registered and declared new. Since then it has been maintained by Graypaul Ferrari and specialist independent Ferrari dealer Shiltech.

Services have been carried out at 5,624 miles,15,501miles,18,282 miles, 20,060 miles and 21,167 miles . Additional to standard service requirements ~ include reverse gear repair in 2013 and new inlet manifold gaskets, silencers, catalyst and brake system etc, in 2014 at a cost of ~£16,500. The most recent invoices, 2024, are for replacement rad/oil cooler pack, hoses, steering rack and anti-roll bar link, carried out by marque specialists Shiltech, bringing a total of almost £30k.

The car is MOT’d until May 2025 and was last serviced only 200 miles ago. It comes with two keys, the owner's wallet and all booklets.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hello – some questions if I may :

How’s the car for wind noise from the door seals ?
I’d the car suffering from any sticky buttons and leather issues on the dash , roof lining / parcel shelf etc ?
Does the air conditioning blow cold ?
I don’t see the remote locking boxes with the keys ?
I note from the MOT history it advises corrosion to floors and sills (2015) has this been addressed ?
Same question for advised oil leak?

Apologies for the amount of questions .

Regards

M
