Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.

On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.

Thanks very much to Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

THE CAR & GORDON

Gordon is a passionate driver who is currently selling this Ferrari and a stunning Austin Healey 3000 – both with beautiful sounding engines. He has owned the Ferrari for seven years and has enjoyed the drives so much – by taking it on long trips around the UK, as well as taking a trip to the Alps and back in particular testing weather.

He mentions in the ‘Meet the Owner’ video the feel good factor the car has given him over the years and says it runs like a sewing machine, due to how reliable the car has been to him. He jokes about how the car can hold enough room for his luggage…!

Gordon will be sad to see the GT car go, however, he wants to find another car that will give him as much joy as this car has. He is thinking about getting an XK140 – very nice Gordon.

EXTERIOR

The car really does look amazing. The 456M has a more subtle essence about it than other Ferraris but the design still looks like the iconic brand if you were to take away the badges. The car was designed by Pinnafarina. The 456M GTA came with improved aerodynamics.

Wheels & Tyres
The car is fitted with original condition five-spoke factory wheels, whilst the tyres hold a very good tread with profiles of 285/40/17 and 255/40/17, allowing the front-engine, rear-wheel drive to perform at its best.

Bodywork
The body of the car is in excellent condition with no dents across the car. There are some stone chips on the front bumper which matches the mileage of the car and maintains its originality. Please review all the images / videos of the car to assess the condition for yourself.

Paint
The Tour de France paint is consistent across the car. We at Trade Classics do like a Ferrari in blue, something different from the usual red and with the complimentary tan interior – bellissimo!

Glass and Trim
Both are in excellent condition across the car.

INTERIOR

The interior is absolutely stunning and looks completely original. The car is set in a beautiful tan leather that is across the majority of the interior. Please watch the ‘Interior Review’ video as you will see every angle of the interior, on top of Adam testing out the functionality of the electric seats. As can be seen in the media, the headlining has noticeably sagged. Gordon has assured us he will be visiting a Ferrari specialist on 09 March to get it repaired and we will update the listing accordingly.

Seats and Carpets
The electric seats look to be in excellent condition as they are made in fine leather that will stand the test of time. The carpets are in the complimentary colour that makes the whole interior seamless.

Dashboard
The dashboard leather still looks to be in good condition after 20 years with some slight signs of it lifting (usual with a Ferrari of this age), as can be seen in the interior video and photos. Fewer gauges were added to the ‘M’ model, the second production run of the 456.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The same can be said for the steering wheels but no signs of any wear and tear. The automatic gear stick looks in excellent condition..

MECHANICS

This particular 456M is the GTA model with a total of 650 produced. Please watch the ‘On the Road’ video as you can see Gordon and Adam having a great time on the road in this V12 soothing monster. The 456M came with more efficient natural cooling features for the engine.

Engine and Gearbox
The car started first go from cold in our usual ‘Cold ‘Start’ section of the video. Once we got on the road with Gordon we really started to get a sense of what this car can do. Fitted with a front-mounted 5.5L engine that produces over 400hp pulling with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suspension and Brakes
This is a GT car that is extremely comfortable on all tarmac roads at all speeds, whether you are cruising or pulling away. We heard no bumps or rattles coming from the adjustable suspension and the brakes worked just as expected.

The Drive
The car really drives great. Gordon took us around his local area of Scotland and it was extremely pleasurable. It is one of the most comfortable GT cars of its time and looks to be standing the test of time today, performing so reliably.

Electrics and Other
We tested the electric seats on our visit as well as other electronics on the car. Nothing is broken and Gordon assures us that everything functions as expected on the vehicle.

HISTORY

This car is 1 of 650 made making it extremely rare and desirable. Gordon has used Ferrari specialists near Edinburgh for all servicing and repairs, with Verdi Ferrari also servicing with Maranello and Verdi Ferrari. The car comes with an assuring amount of history that dates back to its year of production.

As mentioned, Gordon has owned the car for seven years, amassing around 1,000 miles per year, as can be seen in the MOT and service history. The cam belt was last changed in 2017, adding to the future reliability of the car. The ECU was replaced in 2012. A detailed summary can be found at the bottom of the gallery.

Please see the images below to review all the paperwork that comes with the car, as well as original handbooks and an official Ferrari toolkit.

This example can be considered low-mileage as it has done 29,000 miles to date with a complete service history.

Gordon I have a 1957 Mondial replica it might be up your street, built in 1976. It has the original Ferrari instrument binnacle worth a fortune on its own. It’s an ERRA 500 Mondial one of about 8 worldwide.

Hi Mike and thank you for your message. Interesting as your car surely is, I’m in the process of reducing the number of cars in the household so not in the market to buy!
