Introduction
Andrew Taylor
Small, nimble, and easy on fuel - the Fiat 500L proved to be an instant hit among the masses.
The Fiat is one of few cars that command cult status. It's an icon of the automotive world and won hearts as soon as it rolled of the Italian firm's production lines back in the '50s. - today the car is still as popular as ever.
The 500L, also known as 'Lusso' is a more richly trimmed and better-appointed version of the standard 500F. This is a late 500L, with its tubular guards protecting the front bumper and rear corners. Other model-specific additions included a new Fiat badge, redesigned hub caps, chrome plastic mouldings for the roof drip rails, bright trim around the windows, and an anti-glare plastic dashboard.
This is example was purchased new in 1971 by Antimo's grandfather, passed down to his dad, and now to Antimo. He has imported it to the UK where he was planning to use it on short trips, however, due to the lack of use Antimo has now decided to sell the car.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Andrew after meeting Antimo the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
is the vehicle uk registered
Hello, yes it is, it has UK licence plates, it passed its MOT in January 2021 (and it is exempt going forward).
Hi Antimo
Lovely looking car.
Is there any documentation, such as the Italian equivalent of the V5, Italian service records/history, showing your family ownership from new?
Kindest regards
Richard
Morning Richard, thank you!
I certainly do:
– A copy (the original was kept by DVLA upon registration of the car) of the original registration document in the name of my grandad, who had my same name, as I was named after him;
– 2006 transfer of ownership in the name of his daughter / my aunt (who never actually drove the car, she has a licence but she doesn’t really drive);
– 2019 transfer of ownership in my name
That’s it!

Hi Antimo
That is great, thank you very much. Good luck in the sale.
Richard
Many thanks Richard.
Hi Antimo, where are you based please, thanks
Mark
Hi Antimo, where is the car based please?
Mark
Hi Mark, it is just outside Cambridge, in CB25.
Sorry Antimo, just seen your reply, thank you
No problem Mark
Hi Antimo,
Like the car.
If you kept the car what else would you do to it, either mechanical. maintenance or restoration?
Is the mileage correct or has it gone around the clock?
Does it require a petrol upgrade?
Thanks
Carmine
Ciao Carmine!
The mileage is def correct, I only driving around the block every week or so to keep engine and battery going.
That’s a good question! The first thing I’d do is put a working radio in there 🙂 followed by real seat belts and an additional rearview mirror on the right side of the car. I would also replace the rubber gaiter cover on the gear shift (it has a small crack). Finally I’d get one of those fitted luggage racks for the back of the car, so I can bring it on day trips! Something like this:
Beyond these few things, I’d be happy to keep the car as it is. I’m certain I’d get ideas as the time goes, but I wouldn’t want to do anything major.
PS no petrol upgrade required, although you need to check about the new E10 petrol rollout!
Thanks, one last question the bonnet (hinge side) does not appear to be true and tight over the wings. Is this a detail or is there an issue?
I believe it is a detail, if you look at other models some have quite a bit of space around the bonnet, while others don’t:
I think the overhang is because there is only a central hinge
What is the car width ?
Hello Tony, it’s 52 inches (1.32m). I got the figure online but I just checked myself and it looks about right!
