Introduction
Paul Wright
Like an Italian espresso – small, stylish, and guaranteed to pump some adrenaline in your veins with every drop-top drive!
The 1982 Fiat Spider 2000 was the final Fiat-produced version of the iconic 124 Spider before Pininfarina took over in 1983. Designed by Tom Tjaarda, it featured a 2.0-litre inline-four engine, available in carburetted ~102hp or fuel-injected ~108hp versions. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it offered a lightweight, agile driving experience.
With independent front suspension and a solid rear axle, the Spider balanced comfort and handling. The interior featured bucket seats, a wood-trimmed dash, and optional luxuries like electric windows and air conditioning. Affordable compared to rivals like the Alfa Romeo Spider, it remains a beloved classic, valued for its Italian styling and engaging drive.
This lovely example has been well maintained by Tony since his purchase in 2016. As an import from the States, it features a 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine with fuel injection for added reliability and better economy.
This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Tony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Some of these had factory fitted air-conditioning. Does this have one ?
Nick
The Spider does not have Air Conditioning. However the Heater matrix that controls the heat / cool air inside the Spider works very well. A new heater matrix was fitted as the old one never worked.
Can you please explain which areas were dealt with for corrosion during the respray process ?
If you have any photos of job done you could share with Adam, so that Adam will share with me, will be very helpful
Also one last question on fuel injection malfunction. Can you please explain what that problem is and how this affects the engine running smoothly ?
Nick,
There was no corrosion. We did not like the old colour and the original paint job was poor. But mainly we did not like the colour.
I have forwarded on the photographs to Adam.
There is no problem with the Fuel Injection at present. I am no mechanic but I’m told the Bosch FI system is very simple and it regulates the air, fuel and temperature. Obviously, if the Temperature sensor has failed then there are issues. This is covered in detail by the brilliant book that will accompany the Spider – “Maintaining the Italian Roadster” by Bradley Artigue.
Feel free to ask further questions as necessary.
Hi Nick,
Tony sent over some photos from the respray, you can find them starting here:

Thanks,
Colin.
1) In October 2018 there is a note that fuel injection issues was not sorted . Was this sorted later ? What is the issue?
2) I checked the photos provided and car looks good. The only area which I noticed needs attention is the edge of drivers door . I assume is corrosion? Any other know corrosion or paint bubbling areas you noticed?
3) Does everything work on the car as it should ? Any known areas that need repair / attention ?
4) Does the engine work as it should? Does it accelerate well and does it keep staple revs?
Morning Nick
1) You are correct. There was a Fuel Injection issue that was not resolved and I changed my motor mechanic, (Eric, who has looked after the Spider from 2018 until the present day). Eric found the issue to be associated with the Temperature Sensor. So, Water Temperature Sensor, Water Temperature Seal and the Water Thermostat were replaced.
2) The Driver’s Door edge is not corrosion. I am to blame for this, I caught the side of a wall whilst reversing with the door open. I am still very upset with myself.
3) Everything works on the car as it should do. The “on the road video” – gives a good idea how the Spider pulls and that at all 5 gears are smooth and precise. I am not aware of any outstanding issues that need repair / attention.
4) Engine was serviced and MOT in August 2024. It accelerates well and revs just fine. Tick over is good.
Any other questions please just ask.
Regards
Tony
You are refering to a total of £12000 spend on this 124. Any invoices to support this ? I notice a big engine job in 2023. Why was that necessary ?
Also wanted to ask if you have a hard top for this 124.
Nick,
No hardtop but the Top is in excellent condition and there is no water ingress.
All the bills I have are in the History and Paperwork photographs.
Your specific question about 2023 – The bill dated 20 December 2023 was the largest in the year and explains the work done.
If there is anything else you need answering please feel free to let me know.
Approximately when was this car resprayed ?
Good Morning Nick,
The Spider was resprayed in 2018. I do have photos of the respray
Thank you. Was there any rust treated during this job ? If so , can you please explain which areas were dealt with ?
If you have any photos of job done you could share with Adam, so that Adam will share with me, will be very helpful
Good evening. Does it make a difference to the classic car tax exemption because it is an import or is it tax exempt. ? Are you saying it’s done 88000 miles or is that just the clock ? I only live in. Oswestry so could come for a look
Jamos
