Introduction

I’ve fully restored the car to a standard that means I believe you won’t find a better condition Fiat 500 N. It even won the Meguiars club showcase at the NEC Classic Motor show.

I bought the car from Portugal in 2017 as a restoration project. BUT having completed it, I fell ill a couple of years ago and have lost the love for it.

Quoting Fiat's Heritage site: "On the 4th of July 1957, Fiat presented the heir to the “Topolino”: the Nuova 500 was an all-purpose utility car, small and more economical than the Fiat 600 which by then had been filling Italy with new motorists for two years: between the two, they would change the history of motoring."

Market Auction

Andrew, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Andrew provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Andrew provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

As you can see from the photos, the car has a mohair red roof and rich cream paint that looks good enough to eat.

Also being an early fiat 500 N it has the suicide doors that give it that unique look.

Wheels and Tyres

The early 500 Ns like this have the solid pressed 12” wheel rims and Pirelli white-wall tyres. These rims are really hard to find.

Bodywork

The tin work and panel gaps are spot on. The car was a total wreck and no expense has been spared rebuilding it.

I’ve sourced panels from all over Italy and Portugal. I have so many photos of the restoration from the day I got the car to present day.

Paint

As previously stated the car won the Meguiars Club Showcase 2024; hopefully that speaks volumes.

The paint work is as flat and shiny underneath as it is on the rest of the car: it hasn't even seen cold conditions as it lives in a heated garage.

Glass and Trim

I’ve had all new glass made for the car as the original was in very poor condition. The glass is now perfect with no scratches whatsoever.

The aluminium trim is all polished and in equally fantastic condition.

Interior

The interior of this two-seater is really quirky. It’s so basic the seat swab just fits across the top of the seat on rubber straps, exposing the frames that are original.

The rear that would normally be a seat is a shelf for luggage.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are original, painted in gloss back pain and covered in a beautiful cream and fleck cloth that compliments the very exposed interior cream paintwork.

The luggage area behind the front seats is covered in red hardura.

The headliner is black mohair and is also brand new.

Dashboard

The dashboard is painted cream the same as the rest or the car and is in perfect condition with colour-coded interior mirror and chrome switches.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Refurbished steering wheel is colour-coded with matching gear knob.

Pedal rubbers have 500N embossed in them.

Mechanics

I’ve NEVER started the car. As a result it will need commissioning before use, but personally I think the car would benefit from going to a car collection.

For a few reasons I’ve probably over-restored the car and now due to my health I have no interest.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine has been rebuilt but retains the original block with numbers matching the log book.

The gearbox was stripped and rebuilt but the gears are original and so are showing signs of wear and tear.

Suspension and Brakes

As you can see from photos the suspension has been painted in gloss black. Most of the suspension is original.

It has the original metal brake reservoir, which are getting hard to find. Many have missing caps or have been replaced with plastic ones.

It has transverse leaf spring front suspension and coil spring rear suspension, which gives the car added maneuverability for the small Italian streets.

The Drive

I’ve never started the car so it WILL NEED COMMISSIONING BY THE NEW OWNER.

Electrics and Other

The car has a new wiring loom and has original regulator box, but contains modern electronics inside to make it more reliable.

History and Paperwork

Due to being totally rebuilt and MOT exempt, and never having been run since restoration, there's no paperwork history except for the Portuguese logbook. However, I have loads of photos taken throughout the restoration.

I will include all the spare parts I have. Mainly bits and bobs new front wings.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.
Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.
Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
