Introduction

Tom Valle
Professional Consigner

Back in 1964 one car made quite a spectacular debut - queues would form at dealerships just to get a view of the revolutionary Mustang.

One of America's most iconic cars, and one of the fastest-selling cars of all time. Its gorgeous styling is courtesy of Gale Halderman, David Ash, and Joe Oros with its distinctive long bonnet and short boot it became the benchmark of the 'Pony Car' concept.

This example was manufactured with a "C-Code" powertrain layout, offering a 200BHP 289 cu in engine with a two-barrel carburettor as the base V8. The engine is coupled to Ford's three-speed C4 automatic transmission.

This example has incorporated some GT styling inspired by Eleanor (Gone in Sixty Seconds Film) with its bonnet bulge, Pepper Grey paintwork with dual hood stripes, and torque thrust alloys. This example has recently undergone a significant restoration, now presenting in excellent condition.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Tom after meeting Brandon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I loved Gone in 60 Seconds, this Pepper Grey Mustang with some choice styling makes it all that more interesting.

When Brandon saw the car advertised online in Pepper Grey, and seeing all the recent refurbishment work that had been actioned, he knew it was the Mustang for him.

Brandon mentions "No matter how you’re feeling, up or down, the moment you drive that car and the reaction you get from people instantly boosts your mood making you feel on top of the world. I still absolutely love the car and would ideally like to keep it forever, however, a change in circumstances forces me to sell the car".

Take a look at the very long list of new parts fitted in the history and paperwork section below to see the work that has gone in to this example. Brandon will be happy to answer your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

This Mustang turns just as many heads today as it did back in 1966, it's the archetypal American classic.

Wheels and Tyres

During the full restoration carried out between September 2020 and January 2021, the car was fitted with new Torq thrust alloys, a popular choice among drag racing cars designed to be lightweight yet very strong with a tapered contoured spoke to maximise brake cooling.

The wheels appear in excellent condition, along with the tyres which are Royal Black Royal Passenger's all dated 2017, a good amount of tread remaining. View the photo gallery for a closer look.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears in excellent condition and has been given detailed attention throughout the restoration. The panels gaps and shut lines are looking good, especially for a classic Mustang. Complete wax oil underneath has been applied to ensure it will be good for years to come.

If we were being really picky, we did notice the very slightest signs of bubbles begin to appear on the rear C pillars near the gutter. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

A homage/nod to the film 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' this Mustang is finished in the distinctive colour of "Pepper Grey". The paint appears in excellent condition around the car, and really shows the amount of care which has gone into the restoration.

Each panel presents a deep lustre along with even coverage and colour throughout. Just a small point to note, the very slightest scratch on the offside rear wing. The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the low mileage, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car. Brandon reports the front windshield has a factory-fitted shade band/tint strip.

The chrome bumpers, door handles, badging, and window surrounds all look in very good condition with some very minor scratches on the rear chrome polished bumper.

Interior

A proper Pony interior, high-quality full black leather throughout with chrome accents.

Seats and Carpets

This Mustang is covered in black leather throughout the cabin. The seats have held their shape very well over the years as pictured.

The rest of the cabin has been given great attention over the restoration and in 2020 new parts for the following has been fitted: carpets, door cards, armrests, locks, mirrors, rearview mirror, sun visors, headlining, headlining bows, window regulators, door seals, and parcel shelf speakers.

Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dash is covered in black leather, with what we believe are original dials and clocks. Brandon reports that all of the dials work well to his knowledge and a new dash pad has been fitted.

The dashboard in this Mustang shows no major damage or scuffs, while maintaining its original character. No warning lights were displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~27,097 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic Mustang steering wheel is fitted on this car with a black leather wrap. The car features a three-speed auto box with it's gear selector presenting inline with the rest of the interior.

Mechanics

Fitted with the desirable C-Code 289 V8, a high-performance engine with that familiar American muscle soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

This example was manufactured with a "C-Code" powertrain layout, offering a ~200BHP from the 4.7L V8 engine, coupled to Ford's Three-speed C4 automatic transmission.

During the restoration, the car received a mechanical overhaul and service as well as the exterior. Some of the new parts installed include: PerTronix Flame Thrower II, PerTronix Ignitor II, PerTronix Spark Plug wires, Edelbrock 1404 4 barrel carburettor, Aluminum intake (although this might have been changed again as there are signs of surface corrosion), New Battery, Refurbished Brake Servo, Refurbished Radiator, New Thermostat, Alternator, Fuel Pump, Fuel Lines, Fuel Tank, Idler Arm, Starter Solenoid, Flow Master Dual Exhaust with oversized tips, Spark Plugs, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Power Steering pump (this has since been removed).

We captured a cold start video that shows the car starting without fuss on the first request. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the very clean engine bay and underneath the car.

Suspension and Brakes

Brandon reports that the car was fitted with new control arms and drop links all around, along with; coil springs, shocks, seat plugs, and new Wilwood grooved power disk brakes at the front with new drums at the rear.

As you would imagine for a recent rebuild, the car stops on demand and offers a very comfortable journey thanks to all the new components recently fitted.

The Drive

The Mustang has always been crowned for its comfortable and easy cruising experience with Brandon reporting the car being a dream to drive. We couldn't think of a better American classic to purchase and enjoy this summer.

Electrics and Other

Brandon mentions the interior is fitted with a new stereo, which has been styled to match the retro interior, along with Kenwood parcel shelf speakers fitted in the rear. While all the parts for the AC seem to be there - it is not working and Brandon has not investigated it any further.

We're assured that everything else on the car works as expected to Brandon's knowledge.

History and Paperwork

A proper American classic, this restored example has been tweaked with exterior styling inspired by "Gone in 60 Seconds", it's all the better for it we think.

Brandon purchased this Mustang fully refurbished last July. The car has undergone thousands of pounds worth of refurbishment over the previous few years. It was stripped down to bare metal and resprayed in the iconic Pepper Grey with black stripes in homage to Eleanor from 'Gone in Sixty Seconds', along with it's Flow master dual exhaust, Torq thrust alloys, and 69 Boss hood intake. It was an AC and power steering optioned 289 V8 C-Code example (the power steering appears to have been removed by a previous owner) with an aluminium intake (this may not be the case now, as there is some surface corrosion present on the current item) and Edelbrock 1404 carburettor fitted. As mentioned above, the AC doesn't work at present.

Hi Brandon. Looks nice. May have missed it but chassis, engine matching numbers? Appreciate it’s a 60s car And mot exempt but not put through MOT for additional reassurance? Thanks.

Hiya Brandon. Lovely looking car. Not the sort of guy who worries too much about details its a classic. My only question is in your opinion does it start ok, run ok from the get go so I can use as I carry on your good work.
