Introduction
Alan Stuart
The iconic Pony Car with its uprated V8, rear-wheel drive, performance GT package and those oh so iconic exhaust notes.
One of America's most iconic cars, and one of the fastest-selling cars of all time. Its gorgeous styling is courtesy of Gale Halderman, David Ash, and Joe Oros, with its distinctive long bonnet and short boot it became the benchmark of the "Pony Car" concept.
This example is an original "GT", a Mustang variant that gave the driver a better-handling, better-performing car in one neat package. The GT came as a 'A' or 'K' coded chassis, this example is a 'A' code meaning it was fitted from the factory with an uprated V8. The ~255BHP engine requires premium fuel due to the higher compression, ann the GT also has dual exhausts with trumpeters that exit through a special rear valance, GT livery and badges, rocker moulding was deleted, and they received a special GT petrol cap. On the front of the car, the GT package came with a set of fog lights mounted on horizontal bars, a 16:1 quick ratio steering, heavy-duty and stiffer suspension, along with disc brakes.

Hi Luke,
Can you confirm if this 302ci engine has
been modified to run on unleaded fuel.
Cheers
The car can run on both E10 or E5 petrol found at every pump! Though I’ve only put E5 unleaded in! Cheers!
The reason for fitting that scuttle vent cover is to stop water leaking into the cabin. This is usually due to corrosion in the bulkhead/firewall around the heater blower apertures. Do you know of any corrosion in this area?
I added this just as extra precaution when I brought the vehicle as I’d also found that it is a common place for rust when doing research. I have not seen any corrosion myself I wanted to keep it that way hence the vent cover. Thank you!
Still confusing info regarding engine? If it is a 302 block it is 5.0 ltr but description states 4.7? The heads have no influence on cubic capacity….
Hello! As far as the V5 is concerned it states that the car is 4.7 litre(the 289) however the previous owner had told me that it had been replaced with the 5.0L 302. And having taken it to the mechanic I use for all of its work they had told me the same that it is the 5.0 302. Sorry for the added confusion.
There needs to be some clarity on the Engine fitted
to this Mustang. The advert mentions 289 and 302
capacities. Only ‘K’ code cars had Hipo engines.
If this has a 4 brl carb , power is 225 Not 255.
Please clarify this situation so I can bid.
hi there. sorry for the confusion. engine block has been replaced with a 302 at some point in its life – but the original head from the 298 remains. hope that clears things up!
