Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Proof that muscle, style, and a little rebellion can fit perfectly into one sleek machine.

It’s hard to imagine a car that made a more spectacular debut than the Mustang did in April 1964. Demand was so high that sales outstripped production by 6,000 vehicles by the end of the first day. Its success was assured, making it one of the fastest-selling cars of all time. Gorgeous American muscle styling is credited to Gale Halderman, David Ash, and Joe Oros of the Ford design studio, with the distinctive long bonnet and short boot that set the benchmark for the "Pony Car" concept.

This Mustang was imported to the UK just six years ago from the sunshine state of California - what better place to buy a true American muscle car from?

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Liam the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It’s an American icon - what’s not to love!

Liam had always wanted to own an American icon, and what better choice could there be? The car was a fresh import when he acquired it, having resided in the sunshine state of California. As we know, a dry state generally means minimal corrosion, which encouraged Liam to take the plunge on this 1967 classic.

Thoroughly enjoyed during his ownership, and with his children now growing up, the Mustang is being sold to help fund a move to a larger property.

Liam will be on hand to answer any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Sleek, elegant, and extremely stylish.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the original steel wheels, these do have a few minor spots of surface corrosion but are covered with a full set of Mustang hubcaps.

The tyres are in good visual condition with plenty of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery for more detailed images.

Bodywork

Looking around the Mustang, the bodywork presents very well - tere is the odd blister at the bottom of the passenger side wheel arch, but nothing excessive.

The panels are consistent with visually equal gapping throughout.

We’ve provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished in the original colour of Frost Turquoise, the paintwork does have some small chips adding to the patina - it was repainted appropriately eight years ago while still in the States.

Images have been taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

All windows are in good condition with no excessive scratches, other than the usual day-to-day marks.

The seals and trims all appear in good condition with a bright finish and minimal tarnishing.

Interior

60s styling and charm with the addition of upgraded seats and a half roll cage.

Seats and Carpets

The Mustang's seats have been upgraded by the previous keeper. These are finished in vinyl and do have a small hole on the driver's bolster. The rear seat is in good condition, as are the door cards.

A half roll cage has been fitted by the previous safety-conscious owner. There are also three-point seatbelts in the front and rear.

Throughout the car, the carpets are in good condition with no signs of excessive wear. However, due to the California sun, they have inevitably faded, which is noticeable when you remove the mats.

Dashboard

The dashboard is a survivor and is free from any splits or cracks.

Liam confirms the instruments are working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of approximately ~26,607 miles.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel has been replaced due to splitting on the rim; this is included. The replacement is slightly thicker and is in good order.

The gear knob is also in good condition with minimal signs of age.

Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

Fitted with a silky smooth 3.3-litre straight-six, the Mustang delivers ample power for the 60s classic.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.3-litre fires up without hesitation from cold, as can be seen in our cold start video, and comes to a smooth idle. Liam doesn’t report any issues with the car's running, and on our test drive, the car performed superbly.

Liam has had the engine flushed out and a waterless coolant installed - this helps keep temperatures super low.

Fitted with a three-speed automatic, the gear change is smooth, and the car pulls effortlessly through the gears - not that it’s the type of car to race through; it’s more of a relaxed cruiser.

Suspension and Brakes

Cruising along, the Mustang soaks up the road with ease, and there are no knocks or bangs coming from the suspension.

The brakes bring the 60s classic to a halt in a straight line with no issues.

The Drive

Driving the Ford Mustang is like stepping back in time to the golden era of muscle cars. With its throaty straight-six engine and throbbing exhaust note, it delivers an exhilarating experience that’s all about power and unfiltered driving pleasure.

The steering is engaging, and the ride is comfortable, soaking up the UK roads with ease. It’s not just about speed; it's the feeling of being in control of a piece of automotive history with that classic pony car charm that turns heads everywhere you go.

Electrics and Other

There isn't an enormous amount of electrics in the Mustang, only your essentials, but Liam confirms everything is working correctly, including the air conditioning.

History and Paperwork

Become just the second UK owner of this American icon.

Unfortunately, as with many imports, the history rarely makes it over with the car, which is the case here. There is no significant history other than the V5C, and any invoices Liam had created were never kept, as he didn’t plan on selling it - something he admits in hindsight wasn’t the best move.

With little paperwork, it’s down to the overall condition, which will sell this very usable American icon on a low reserve.

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and have also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights whether the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. As you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high-resolution detail – this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to assess the vehicle's condition.

Viewings are also welcomed for all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time – we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car – just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
