Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Arguably the most famous Pony car, the Mustang from 1969 just have that something extra special that defies the style.

The Ford Mustang has been in continuous production since 1964, and Ford's longest-produced nameplate to date. The Mustang is a highly-styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles instantly distinguishable by their long hood and short deck proportions. This is a first-gen example - the 1969 models were restyled with a larger body and revised front end, most notably the more quad headlamps giving the car that era defining style.

Coming out of 4 years ownership, the seller imported and registered the car from a classic Pony car dealer in Germany. It's covered limited mileage in the current ownership, and presents in great condition for a 1969 example.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Marcus the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

What an iconic car, I just loved the look and searched far and wide to get a great example.

Marcus purchased the Mustang 4 years ago in Germany from a classic car specialist before having it shipped back to the UK. He registered the car in the UK in January 2019 and has since kept the car dry stored in his garage.

Since importation, he has had the following work carried out; headlight switched to RHD setup, new fuel sender unit, new aluminium radiator, new oil pressure sender unit, and new fan belts. After moving house and running out of space to keep the car, Marcus has decided to put it up for sale.

Marcus will be more than happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Instantly recognisable by its long hood and short deck proportions.

Wheels and Tyres

Very attractive 5 spoke wheels are found on each corner of the car, finished in a reflective alloy with a matt grey finish to the spokes. The wheels look good with some minor signs of age around the central caps.

The wheels are wrapped in Yokohama AVID S/T tyres which appear to have a good amount of tread left on each tyre.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at each wheel.

Bodywork

We love the proportions of the Mustang, a true American classic, with its long bonnet and curvaceous body lines.

The bodywork of the car appears generally very good, all the panel gaps look right and true, good for a '60s classic. When getting very close we did notice a very small area of cracking on the rear boot lid and some minor parking marks on the edge of the driver's door. There also appear to be some very minor areas of corrosion around the rear arches.

Take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the car.

Paint

Finished in a deep metallic racing green - we really like the look of the paint on this car. The finish on the paint is very good, it's even in colour and coverage across each panel. Marcus has had some areas of the doors addressed.

If we were being really picky, we noticed some very light stone chips. To really elevate the car, the paintwork would benefit from a professional detailing session to bring the colour out and minimise some swirl marks that have developed over time.

Please take a look at the photographs to see the paint in more detail.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears in very good condition with no major cracks, chips or discoloration observed on our visit. All the window rubbers and seals appear in good condition in line with the age and mileage.

The brightwork appears generally very good, we did notice some minor areas of age in the form of pitting, most noticeable on the front bumper.

We have captured high resolution photos and videos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the exterior.

Interior

An elevated 60s interior, reclining leather seats and teakwood-grained trim, the Grande paved the way for later Ghia models for Ford.

Seats and Carpets

The seats look great for a car of this age and mileage. The seats hold their shape, and show very little signs of wear or tear over the years.

The door cards are showing signs of age though as you'd expect. The veneer trim have cracks showing, take a look at the interior media to see for yourself.

Dashboard

Teakwood-grained dashboard, with 4 large black dials all look in great condition for the age and mileage of the car. If we were really picky, the glass for the dials appears a little hazed, common on older cars from the 60s.

We have captured high resolution photos and videos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A large two-spoke rim-blow steering wheel and automatic gear selector appear in good condition, in line with the age and mileage.

The carpet around the gear selector is beginning to show signs of age and would benefit from some TLC.

Please review the interior media pack for a closer look.

Mechanics

A roaring 4.9L V8 engine with a brand new aluminium radiator sends all the power to the rear wheels.

Engine and Gearbox

The car packs a punch with its roaring 4.9L V8. The 302cu V8 was introduced in 1968 with the emission regulations in mind.

Marcus has fitted a new aluminium radiator in 2019 as an extra precaution, and to make sure the car performs just as it should. The engine bay would benefit from a deep detail, however it appears in its original un-tampered state.

The car started the first time in our cold start video which we conducted for the mechanical video - take a look to see the engine bay and underside in more detail.

Suspension and Brakes

Marcus reports suspension and brakes working faultlessly, mentioning a firm and sporty ride. A firm application of the brakes is needed, just as you would expect for a classic Mustang.

The Drive

Marcus likes to take a more relaxed approach to driving than these Pony cars have a reputation for, and mentions it's a great cruiser for road trips.

Electrics and Other

Marcus reports all the switches, lights and buttons work as they should. Some things to mention though, the car is fitted with A/C but it isn't blowing cold, and a classic American radio is fitted which also isn't working.

History and Paperwork

Imported from Germany, this UK registered 1969 Mustang Grande comes to sale from 4 years ownership, and looks great in the dark metallic paint.

As with many imported cars, this Mustang comes with very limited paperwork. Marcus bought the car in Germany before having it shipped back to the UK in 2019. Since his ownership the car had headlight switched to RHD; fuel sender unit, new aluminium radiator, oil pressure sender unit, and new fan belts fitted.

Marcus will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.
