Introduction
Alan Stuart
Being the last of the Mk2’s, the Cortina 1600GT Crayford Convertible benefits from the significant facelift upgrades.
The Ford Cortina was initially launched in 1962 and by 1966 had become Fords most successful UK car to date. The Cortina Mk2 was launched to the press in September 1966 and continued production until 1970. The Mk 2 was face-lifted towards the end of its production run making significant improvements, including a redesign of virtually the whole car with the new crossflow high compression engine, improved suspension and lower noise levels. This 1.6 GT 2 door was converted by Crayford from brand new and sold by Ford Main Dealers; Oakley’s Motor Services in Alton. Crayford Auto Developments converted around 400 Cortinas and the Mk2 Convertible was available from launch in 1966. Crayford developed the car secretly so that it could be seen at the 1966 Motor Show alongside the all new Mk2.
This particular Cortina comes to market from a remarkable ~50 year ownership, garaged all this time, it has only one previous owner too. Although exempt, the Cortina has an MOT to valid until 03.04.2025.
This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Ronald the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

It looks like you’ve only done 50 miles a year by the history of the MOT and why does it have Hood clips on the doors ?
As stated in notes the car was stored for a long time only driven for mots and servicing as required .I took it to one show and did a friends wedding transport .Other than . that only driven locally to keep it running.
The hood or tonneau clips are to secure the boot cover when the hood is down.
Seems to have clips on the front doors why is that ? As I already own a Crayford and I do not have them on mine.
Hi Ron,
Does it still have it’s original front wings and sills, has it had much welding underneath.
With regards,
Martin.
The front wings and front panel are new fitted by me as I had a body shop. There is no welding underneath.
