Introduction

Alan
Professional Consigner

Affordable, reliable, classic motoring with style - this Escort 1300 Super does it all.

The Ford Escort was branded as a small family car which was produced for 33 years, it was an incredibly popular choice with over 4.1 million cars sold worldwide - although sadly there are only 90 of these Supers still on the road today.

The Escort has worn many hats over the years from being an affordable road car to a highly competitive rally and race car.

This is the first generation and a "Super" variant that featured rectangular headlights, fitted carpets, cigar lighter, water temperature gauge and a 1.3L Crossflow Inline-4 engine.

This is a really lovely and genuine car that has been owned and meticulously cared for by Judith and Tim for the past 26 years.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Judith the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

After twenty-six years of happy and reliable motoring the little car feels like it's part of the family, but the time has now come to find a new owner.

This Escort 1300 Super is coming out of 26 years of loving ownership and has very low mileage, only rarely being driven by Judith and Tim.

They will only drive the car on very special occasions and to its local yearly MOT / Service. The pair have loved owning, storing, and driving this little saloon - however, due to a change in circumstances they have made the difficult decision to sell. And whom best to help them find a new enthusiast owner than us :-)

The car has been garaged throughout its life, it features full history and just 1 previous owner - the car is currently being MOT'd ready for the new owner.

The couple are looking for a like-minded buyer to take owner ownership of this lovely 1970 Ford Escort 1300 Super.

Judith & Tim will be more than happy to answer any questions you have in the comments below.

Exterior

The distinctive body shape creates instant nostalgia for every adult you pass - a real head turner too in Blue Mink.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels and tyres look in good shape, and in line with the age and mileage of the car. The centre caps shine and reflect a lot of light, making them really stand out on the road.

The tyres look a little aged, yet still appear to have plenty of tread left for the new owner.

Please take a look at our photos and videos for a detailed look at both the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

Beautiful in the '70s and still today, a great boxy body shape, with the rectangle headlights that really make this Super stand out from the other Escorts.

The panel gaps all look tight and correct as you would expect from a meticulously owned example with very low mileage.

On some edges and the front bumper, we did notice some very minor surface corrosion, which we're sure would come up nicely with a little Sunday afternoon attention.

Please take a look around the detailed exterior media to see the iconic great shape of this car.

Paint

Finished in a beautiful Blue Mink and against those reflective wheels caps, it was a great choice in 1970 and still looks incredible today.

The paint has a good lustre with an even finish on each panel showing the amount of attention and care Judith & Tim have given the car over the years.

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim look in good condition on this Escort 1300 Super, the glass panes are free from chips and cracks.

The chrome trim has not dulled and today maintains its reflective appearance, please take a look at the exterior photographs and videos for a detailed tour.

Interior

A striking black vinyl interior that almost looks like it's just rolled off the production line.

Seats and Carpets

Where to begin with the seats and carpets, this Escort 1300 Super has done very few miles during Tim & Judith's 26 years of ownership and it shows.

It's a similar affair with the carpets, all four mats look excellent.

Please take a look at the interior photographs to see how well the interior has been maintained.

Dashboard

A charming and simple dashboard with wood veneer that fills the driver's eyesight and shows ~22,700 miles on the clock.

The entire dashboard is in excellent condition and the glass is clean and free from humidity or discolouration.

Please take a look at the photographs and videos for a detailed view of the cabin.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

You will find the original steering wheel and gear stick in excellent condition. We love the originality of this car, it maybe simple yet it has all the necessities for any great road trip.

Overall, a lovely interior ready to show off at any Escort event.

Mechanics

Packed with the larger 1300cc engine - a nimble and sporty drive.

Engine and Gearbox

A fiery 1300cc engine, this was a popular choice back in the day. It was such a hit with the masses and is another reason why it's such a desirable classic today.

The original engine starts with ease in our cold start video, Tim and Judith report regular servicing of the engine and gearbox when required.

Even though the car is MOT exempt, they like to keep the MOT certificate in date to maintain the condition you see it in today.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension consists of a MacPherson strut front suspension and a simple live axle mounted on leaf springs.

Judith reports regular servicing of the brakes, fluids and suspension when required.

Please take a look at the underside images for a more detailed view of the suspension and brakes.

The Drive

A comfortable and enjoyable ride in the '70s - a family car at heart that was pretty nimble and was chosen to be modified to become a high-performance rally and race car.

Tim and Judith love the reliability, space, and style of the car, as well as the fun driving experience - it ticked all their boxes.

Electrics and Other

Simple and minimal electrics on this car, it'll put you back to the raw driving experience - free from distractions.

History and Paperwork

An all original UK RHD, very low mileage with very long ownership little car - guaranteed to tick all your boxes.

This Blue Mink, low mileage example is coming out of 26 years of loving ownership. It has a whole host of paperwork to support its low mileage with constant MOT'ing and servicing carried out by Tim and Judith's local Ford specialist.

The car is currently having a fresh MOT, so the new owner can rest assured that the car is tip-top and ready to be enjoyed and loved.

We've carried out checks on; Seller ID, V5, HPi clear.

Update 23/02 - the car has passed it's MOT today so the standard 7 day completion period will remain at the end of the auction, i.e. the winning bidder will have 7 days to pay for the car and collect it. The car had no major defects recorded - it's just got a few advisories that should be easy to fix. The registration number is KPX 71J for you to action your own look up.

As Judith and Tim have not used the car much in recent times, we asked them to start the car and leave it running for half an hour to make sure the cooling system is all good, i.e. no overheating. Judith actioned that test yesterday (23/04) and took a picture of the temperature gauge (Mechanic Section) and it's all good (needle is way down in the cool area).

Hi Colin. When we bought the car in 1995 we replaced the front wings, front panel, and both rear wheel arches. We also had the off side sill panel repaired. Looking at the documentation from the previous owner, in 1975 she had a new rear body panel welded in. Best wishes Judith
