One of the legends - Ford Escort. A highly desirable family favourite and a racing car alike.

In 1968 Ford launched the Ford Escort and it was a huge success, taking over from the Ford Anglia. Style-wise Ford played it safe and conservative with a classic 'coke bottle' design, but today we think it looks great, a real icon from the '60s.

Any classic car collection will feel somewhat empty without one of these great motors. This is a 1300cc manual that outputs 56bhp, pretty nippy in its small form factor.

This model is currently an unfinished project. It has a huge potential to be brought back to a former glory with the right tools, time, and knowledge. If you're an escort fan in search of a project for winter, then this is the one for you.

The Classic Ford I've always wanted to own. I'll be sad to see this unfinished project go.

Dean has really enjoyed this small Ford during his ownership. Over that time he has completed a lot of work, welding all the pillars up to standard, replacing the old drums with discs and maintaining the body.

"This is a really special car to me, I've always dreamed of owning an Mk1 Escort, however, it’s time for someone else to bring this car back to life and cherish, just as I have,” said Dean.

Exterior

The head-turner from the '60s is back, a striking Daytona Yellow paint job and chrome bumpers really make this classic stand out.

Wheels and Tyres

We think the wheels look good after reviewing the photos, Dean reports they are in good condition with no scuffs to be found.

All the wheels come with tyres, however, would benefit from a fresh set and new valves.

Bodywork

The car's bodywork is generally in a good solid condition, but this is a project car, which is reflected in the guide and reserve.

Dean has so far carried out extensive welding work on all the pillars. The floor pans are clean, but the offside needs a little attention as you can see in the images.

Paint

Finished in a striking Daytona Yellow, a lovely choice of paint for the escort. On inspection of the car, the paint looks fairly even in finish and colour, but it's definitely faded over time and in need of a respray.

Glass and Trim

After reviewing the photographs the glass and trim look in good original condition.

Interior

Fully complete interior, new leather seats, matching door cards and a very tidy dash to be found in this example.

Seats and Carpets

Upon inspection, the seats and carpets are in good condition and Dean reports all the interior is present. We really like the look of the brown leather seats which look great in the photographs.

Dashboard

After reviewing the photos the dashboard looks in good, original condition.

Dean reports all the switches on the dashboard work along with the dials and gauges.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel looks to be an original with wrapped brown tan leather edging - this nicely matches the seats and looks to be in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Mechanics

Packed with a 1,300cc engine, this generation of Escort were a nimble little drive.

Engine and Gearbox

Packing a punch with its fiesty 1,300cc engine, this was a popular choice. Over two million were made in its short 7 years of production, it was such a hit with the masses and is why it's such a desirable classic today.

Dean reports that the engine does start and run, however, there is low compression in cylinder 1. Please take a look at the images for a detailed view of the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

One of the first things Dean addressed was the brakes, he replaced the old outdated drums with new discs as well as fitting new servos on the rear.

He reports the new discs and pads work just as they should and a much better improvement.

The Drive

Dean reports the car starts and drives.

It's being sold and priced as a project and therefore needs a bit of fine-tuning to bring to back to life. The perfect affordable option to Mk1 Escort ownership.
