Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

One very well-restored nostalgic MK3 Cortina ready for shows and many enjoyable road trips.

The Cortina was a car for everyman, it was ubiquitous throughout the '70s and '80s and left a deep impression as part of the UK's social history. The Cortina was reliable, simple to maintain and comfortable for the entire family, making it an obvious favourite.

In late '73 the Cortina Mark III was given a facelift and redesignated 'TD'. The Mark III saw a revised trim level, front grill and rear lights, and rectangular headlights. This the top of the line 'E' model standing for 'executive' which replaced the GXL.

This car is powered by the 2.0L Pinto TL20 Inline four engine and has been enjoyed by Steven for the previous two years. Steven has since has enjoyed the occasional journey out and about, however, being one of his favourites and its condition, it only makes an appearance on special occasions, and comes to market with a fresh MOT actioned on the car so it is ready for the new owner.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Steven the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've been collecting Fords since my early 20s and I've always fancied owning the 2000E.

Steven is a huge Ford fan, this Cortina 2000E is one of many from his collection, and due to limited space in his already full garage, Steven has decided to part with this example.

Due to his extensive Ford knowledge, Steven is very particular with selecting the best examples for his collection, this one was no exception - an excellent unmodified and restored 2000E example. Steven will be happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

The Cortina took its place at the head of the UK sales chart for 9 years in 1973, this '2000E' example was favoured for its attractive facelift, rectangular headlights and updated interior.

Wheels and Tyres

The 2000E is fitted with Silver 13" wheels with chrome outers and they present in great condition on each corner, with no obvious areas of concern.

Fitted with Tigar TG 621 tyres all round, they appear to have a good amount of tread, with nothing noted on the most recent MOT.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this nostalgic Cortina looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car look to align well.

During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dinks down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp. Both the doors, boot, and bonnet open and close with ease, and door shuts / sills look clean and visually free of issue. We did notice the very odd area of paint chipping to the rear offside panel.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a 'Daytona Yellow', it is a vibrant colour that really makes the Cortina pop out on the roads.

The finish of the paint is great and it is even in colour and finish across all the panels, as you'd expect, and there are only a handful of very small stone chips around the car

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any major chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look great too and in line with the previous restoration.

Interior

The facelift improved the dashboard panels which were carried over to future models and given the classy treatment of faux woodgrain trim.

Seats and Carpets

As you would expect for a well restored example, the interior matches the exterior and appears in great original condition.

You can tell this car has been cared for over its lifetime - the door cards and mats present in great condition with no issues noticed, just subtle signs of patina.

Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

Fitted with a faux woodgrain trim dashboard, which had no signs of any major damage and appeared highly original.

No warning lights were displayed when we started the car and the odometer showed a reading of 94,152 on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A brown leather trimmed Stag steering wheel is fitted which appears in fair condition, with signs of patina.

The black gearstick looks good too as pictured.

Mechanics

Powered by one of the most sought-after powertrains, the car is fitted with an unmodified 2.0L Pinto.

Engine and Gearbox

Equipped with the legendary Ford 2.0 Pinto engine - please watch the "On the Road" video to see the car being started from cold, then run when up to temperature.

On our short trip out, Steven operated the gears with ease.

Suspension and Brakes

Steven reports the suspension setup is very comfortable while offering great performance in the corners. The car has recently had the steering rack/column replaced as part of the work for a fresh MOT.

Please view the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The 2.0L Cortina 2000E offers a lovely amount of power for the hatchback, with the Daytona Yellow paintwork, the car certainly turns head wherever you go.

Watch the mechanical video to see the car start from cold and get the 2.0L Pinto up to some speed along some 'B' roads. Also Steven talks about the Freddie Flintoff connection whereby he rented the car for a few days as his father used to own a similar example.

Electrics and Other

Steven has reported that the electrical system is in line with the rest of the condition of the car, i.e. in full working order to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Restored to a highly original finish and in Daytona Yellow - we know this executive 2000E will be a hit among the Ford community.

The car is coming out of a 2 year ownership with Steven, and had just has 1 previous owner recorded on the V5. The car has bags of originality and the desirable 2.0 Pinto under the hood. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car, regrettably during its trip over from Ireland the car lost its detailed history file. Steven has had a fresh MOT actioned on the car, so that it is ready for the new owner, this included fitting a new steering rack and column.

The car was selected and used in 2022 by Freddie Flintoff for a photoshoot down on the south coast, he kindly donated the yellow fluffy dice!

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
