Introduction
Glyn Parry
Offering eye-watering A-to-B performance with a strong identity thanks to its bold and striking oversized whale-tail and rally stance.
The Escort RS Cosworth was first developed at Ford's SVO department in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Loosely based on the fifth-gen Escort, it was substantially modified to incorporate the 4-wheel-drive Cosworth-powered drivetrain from the Sapphire 4x4. By fitting this equipment into a smaller, stiffer Escort hatchback, Ford believed it would have the best chance of winning against Lancia and Toyota in the Group A premier rally category. Now three decades old, the Escort RS Cosworth has aged gracefully. It's a nostalgic machine with avid followers from the golden age of rallying, "Fast Ford" fans, and car enthusiasts alike.
This particular car is coming to the market after ~9 years ownership, primarily enjoyed on weekends as a Sunday driver. The car boasts an impressive list of Cosworth specifications and work carried out over the years, with sensible and subtle modifications designed to catch the eye of "Fast Ford" fans. It is well-known in the RS Cosworth club, and presents well, particularly the underside where significant work has been actioned in the last few years to the tune of ~£11,500.
This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Was the original colour black?
Yes it was.
Hi, when you purchased, was the car pretty standard or modified? looks as though the engine had some serious mods from those old photo’s when it had a yellow cam cover, blue hoses etc, do you know at what mileage the engine was rebuilt?
Also looks as though the car was mallard green or is that just the picture? how extensive was the welding you had done, was it done to a high standard or just MOT standard, I know these car rot, regards.
Hi,
The car was modified when purchased it and I have put some things back to standard such as cam cover colour, air box. I don’t know what mileage the engine was rebuilt but going off old invoices would be around 2004/05 (100k mile approx). The car was gloss black from new. The welding was on the usual areas being sills, rear arches, petrol filler cap. Surprisingly the battery tray was ok which is another area they rot but more common in the small turbo newer models. The welding was done to a very good standard.
