This fifth generation Mustang has been taken to a whole new level with uprated parts and performance modifications by Roush Performance.

The fifth-generation Ford Mustang (S197) was manufactured from 2004 until 2014 at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan. The Mustang is a line of sporty coupes and convertibles, instantly distinguishable by their long hood and "American Muscle Car" styling. This example has been modified by Roush Performance to become an "RS" model. The car is equipped with a 3.7L V6 engine providing ~305BHP, along with an RS aero body package featuring upper and lower high-flow grilles, front and side splitters, a rear spoiler and Roush branding across both the exterior and interior. Additionally, it boasts upgraded pedals, progressive rate lowering springs all around, and to truly make this example stand out, the original owner opted for 18" performance wheels, a hood scoop, quarter window vents, Recaro race seats, and a Roush performance exhaust to add the cherry on top.

Meet the owner

I've thoroughly enjoyed using this car in both the UK and the states, it offers all the incredible features the Mustang already provides, with the addition of the Jack Roush performance upgrades.

Tom, an engineer in the Royal Navy, purchased the car in the United States back in 2016 when he was based out there. He got a lot of use of the car in the states, and initially planned to use the car for many years to come; however, after being posted back to America this year, he has decided to part with his beloved Ford Mustang RS V6 by Roush Performance.

The Mustang features an MOT valid until 12.12.2024, UK and American paperwork, and the Ford Mustang 3.7L V6 block with Roush Performance enhancements and cosmetic features. Tom and his dad Ken will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Equipped with the Roush Aero Performance bodykit, not only does this Mustang offer great performance figures, it looks the part too.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes equipped with 18-inch, 10-spoke wheels, they present in decent condition, and are complete with their prancing horse center caps. Wrapped in Barum Bravuris 3 HM tyres on the front dated 2019, and Bridgestone Turanza tyres on the rear dated 2021.

The wheels are in used condition with some signs of curbing along the edges, while the Barum/Bridgestone tyres show a significant amount of tread remaining and no signs of cracking from our observations. We have provided exterior photos for you to examine the condition for yourself.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Mustang appears to be in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car aligning very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings or dents. However, we did notice some small stone chips around the front bumper, a small amount of corrosion above the nearside front headlight, and some minor marks at the bottom of the rear bumper.

Paint

The "Charcoal" finish of the paint exhibits even coverage and consistent colour across each panel. While inspecting the car, we did notice the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front as mentioned, however, these aren't that noticeable without close examination.

Once again, we've provided high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to evaluate the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Mustang example appears to be in great condition. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discoloration. The window seals also appear to be in good condition and align with the overall state of the car.

Additionally, the bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in great condition.

Interior

A sleek black interior, finished with chrome trim and Recaro sports seats, ideal for this uprated Mustang.

Seats and Carpets

The black cloth sports seats with "Recaro" stitching, have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect with cherished ownership.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in black and presents two large dials with classic styling to the driver.

The dashboard in this Mustang shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and no warning lights are displayed. The odometer showed a reading of ~131,156 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A leather-wrapped Mustang wheel is fitted, and remains in great condition, which aligns with the mileage of this car. The black leather automatic gear selector has more wear present, particularly to the silver coloured insert. For a closer look, please check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Engine and Gearbox

Equipped with the robust 3.7L V6 engine, the car benefits from a Roush air intake. During our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed admirably on the road; the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without any faults.

Tom (along with his father Ken) reports that the car starts from cold without any issues and drives well, with its automatic gearbox providing smooth power to the rear wheels. Be sure to check out the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer inspection underneath the Mustang and in the well-maintained engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a smooth journey on the sweeping Ilminster roads. The car benefits from the Roush lowering kit, which lowers the car by around 1" from the factory height.

During our short drive in the car, it exhibited handling characteristics typical of a sports car from this era and came to a stop smoothly without any issues.

The Drive

The Mustang RS Roush offers an extremely fun and quick drive, which Tom has thoroughly enjoyed during road trips around the States and the UK.

The car fired up without any issues on the first try. On the road with Tom's dad, Ken, it felt tight and responsive, with ample power to tackle various driving conditions. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

While we didn’t test all the electronics during our visit, Tom reports that to his knowledge, all of them are functional and operational. The car retains its original stereo unit.
