Introduction

Kevin Lou Jacutan
Professional Consigner

The Honda Civic quickly became a household name with its affordable entry to ownership, Japanese reliability, and economical engine.

The first-generation Civic was Honda's first major market success and laid down the direction of their automobile design which they have followed since.

Honda took the N600, increased the length, width, height, wheelbase. They also increased the engine displacement to nearly double, this example is fitted with the 1237cc EECVCC Inline 4 with an output of 52bhp. The smaller size allowed it to outperform American competitors, especially when the 1973 oil crisis struck.

This example finished in an eye-catching red has been owned by Geoff for the previous 6 years.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Geoff the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

6 years of ownership of this little red pocket rocket - but the time has come to sell.

Geoff has owned the car since December 2015 and loved taking it out occasionally on dry days for trips out with the family.

Geoff mentions the car being a charming little thing to drive, which always puts a smile on his face. Also mentions how little maintenance is required for this classic from the '70s.

He will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

A familiar sight for many, the charming Civic may not be a half-million-pound '70s classic, however, it'll turn just as many heads - sparking many great memories.

Wheels and Tyres

The car rides on small original 12" Honda wheels with Radial tyres.

The wheels appear in good condition, however in places are starting to show some areas of corrosion, with just a little TLC we think you'd have a lovely little car.

The rubber appears to be in good condition with a good amount of tread, please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks generally good for a 44-year-old classic.

Please take a look at the images and videos to assess the full condition - when getting really close we did notice a small scuff to both the front and rear bumpers, a few small areas of marks on both doors, and a small scratch to the rear boot. There is also a very small dent on the offside front wheel arch and some evidence of touch up repairs in the past.

Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at this desirable classic.

Paint

The little car is showing its age now and would benefit from some work in the future - it's generally in good condition, however, it could be initially improved further with just some time spent.

Overall a charming and reliable classic ready to use.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks great on the car with no major cracks, chips, or areas of concern. The rubber window seals appear in very good condition with no major signs of degradation.

There are some very minor areas of corrosion on the chrome bumpers which would benefit from a little TLC.

Please take a look at all the photos and videos for a closer look at the Civic.

Interior

The interior sends you straight back to the '70s with its minimal and functional design.

Seats and Carpets

The seats look really good in this car - vinyl seating throughout, all look like they have stood the test of time and are only showing some minor creases.

The carpets also look in line with the age and mileage of the car.

View the video to see the cabin in detail.

Dashboard

The dashboard is wrapped in black plastic and the gauges all appear in great condition too.

The centre console features curved wood veneer and is fitted with a heater and radio - all of which looks in great condition.

The headlining appears a little dirty in areas and would benefit from a deep clean.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The gearstick and steering wheel look in good and original condition. The steering wheel is fitted with a brodie knob for easy turning of the steering wheel with one hand which can be removed if the new owner wishes.

Mechanics

The Japanese Honda Civic introduced a brand new method for fuel management called Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion.

Engine and Gearbox

A 1237cc EECVCC Inline 4 with an output of 52bhp fill the bonnet of this little hatchback.

It was perfect for convenience on congested inner-city streets, parking, and nimbly maneuvering through tight roads.

Geoff reports a very smooth and nippy drive in the Civic, we captured him starting the car from cold with no fuss at all. Please take a look at the mechanical video.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with independent suspension all round and servo-assisted disc front brakes, with drums on the rear with an energy-absorbing, collapsible steering column.

Geoff confirms the suspension and brakes are in full working order with no unusual sounds or vibrations when driving.

The Drive

The lightweight (680kg) body when combined with the 1.2L works so well in the city today, small and nimble enough to fit into any parking spot - the Civic also proves itself on sweeping country roads.

Geoff loves to get the reliable Honda out for summer road trips and reports a great drive every time.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics on the car are said to be working, including the lighting and locking systems.

History and Paperwork

A rare and desirable Japanese classic, with many MOT certificates, finished in vibrant red the Civic is ready for a new home.

This first-generation 1977 Honda Civic is coming out of 6 years of ownership and comes with a healthy amount of MOT history.

The car has 7 previous owners and is now ready for new custodians to enjoy.

Geoff will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.
