The S2000 has all the ingredients of an exceptional sports car, front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive, and perfect 50:50 weight distribution with only 2 seats.

The Honda S2000 was first introduced in 1999 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Honda and was produced for 10 years - during that time only 8,000 came to the UK.

The car was given the chassis designation AP1 and featured a bulletproof 1,997cc inline four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine. The F-series engine in the S2000 held the crown for the highest specific output of a naturally aspirated engine for 10 years, only being dethroned with the launch of the Ferrari 458.

The output was thanks to the 11.7:1 compression ratio, roller rocker valve train, variable valve timing (VVT), and impressive 1.82:1 rod-to-stoke ratio that let the 2-litre engine hit 9,000 rpm.

This car is coming to market from over ~19 years ownership with just one former keeper prior, finished in the smart colour of "Silverstone Metallic" over black leather interior. With ~88,000 on the clock, a fresh and clean MOT has just been actioned, this car is ready for the upcoming summer.

Meet the owner

After 19 years with this car, I've grown quite attached, however, I cannot justify owning two-weekend cars anymore.

Mark has owned the car since 2002, and since then he's had the S2000 serviced annually. As you can see in the history and paperwork media pack, the car comes with excellent provenance and only one previous owner.

Mark has completed around ~90% of the total mileage over his ownership, taking the car on regular weekend trips around the UK. The car originally caught his eye on a Honda Dealership forecourt whilst driving home from work, around a week later Mark returned to test drive and purchase the car for every day use and as an enjoyable car for the weekend, which he has kept garaged since taking ownership.

Mark reports no major work has needed to be carried out on this car, only the clutch master cylinder in 2011 and the original Honda security that went faulty in 2018 - he replaced it with the Sigma S4 Security system. Exterior

Instantly recognisable styling that has aged very well, in its iconic silver paintwork.

Wheels and Tyres

The S2000 is fitted with the original 16" 5-Spoke Honda alloys, which appear in great condition after careful ownership from Mark, both front wheels look good, however, there are some curbing marks on the rear alloys.

The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Turanza's on the front dated 2018/19, and on the rear; Aoteli P307's dated 2019.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this 'S' car appears all original and in great condition, with no major wear to note. The car has been dry-stored in Mark's garage over his ownership and it really shows.

We noticed some very minor stone chips to the front splitter, that look to be in line with the age and mileage of the car.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The silver paint is deep and glossy, which gleamed brightly on our visit. The colour is consistent and looks even across each panel as you can see in the media.

Again, the images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in good condition across the car, along with the trim. We noticed one minor chip/crack in the front windscreen (which is not an MOT failure). Mark is hesitant to change, as it's the original Honda glass.

All the window rubbers and seals appear tight with no signs of excessive wear or degrading.

Interior

Performance-focused seating position, the controls all placed with ergonomics in mind.

Seats and Carpets

These deeply bolstered sport seats are ready to hold you round the corners and present in very good condition throughout. We noticed some very slight sagging on the driver's bottom bolster, however, they are in line with their age and mileage.

Carpets, door cards, and convertible headlining appear in good condition too; unfaded, and have been well looked after throughout Mark's ownership.

Dashboard

The dashboard has stood the test of time and looks good on this sporty roadster from the '00s.

The rev range covers the complete width of the steering wheel, letting you know you have up to 9,000 revolutions per minute to play with.

Mark reports everything is working as it should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gearstick are in great original condition.

The alloy gearstick splits the cabin space with the smaller black sports steering wheel in its very driver-focused position.

Mechanics

The S2000 body structure and chassis offer levels of rigidity completely unheard of in convertibles of the time.

Engine and Gearbox

What really sets this Honda apart is the engine, producing a whopping 237BHP from its 2L block - impressive enough today let alone back in 2000. The four-pot is placed so far back, technically the S2000 is a front / mid-engine sports car.

Once Martin pushed the start button, the 2.0L sprung into life and the car quickly came up to temperature settling down to a smooth idle shortly after, with no unwanted noises. Please take a look at the cold start and the on-the-road footage and commentary in the mechanical video.

Suspension and Brakes

A double-wishbone set up is found all around. Mark reports suspension and brakes work faultlessly, mentioning a firm and sporty ride with stopping on-demand performance.

The Drive

Strap in, because you should really need a pilot's license to drive one of these. The valves open at 6,000rpm and that's when you hear the car scream at you, you just want to scream back but there's no time as you'll already be at 9,000rpm with the car begging you to change, you change in a blink and you'll be back at 6,000 to do it all over again.

Adam, our CEO here at Trade Classics bought one back in 2004, brand new, he had it for three years and clocked up a colossal 93,000 miles. Adam said it never missed a beat and it was the best car he's ever owned - he's also a 911 guy too!

Electrics and Other

Mark reports all the switches, lights, and buttons work as they should. He also mentions the original Honda tape player is installed in the front with an additional 6-stack CD player located in the boot.

History and Paperwork

The car comes with a solic provenance from 19 years of ownership and just one keeper prior - with the condition and history we think it makes for a smart buy and one you'll be able to properly enjoy as well.

As you can see from the paperwork media pack, the car comes with a lot of previous services, clean MOT reports, and receipts for the little amount of work carried out.

As mentioned, Mark reports no major work has been carried out on either the engine or bodywork. The clutch master cylinder was replaced in 2011 and a Sigma S4 Security System fitted in 2018.

Hello Mark can you confirm if cam belt change if yes what date aiso please confirm no marks on body work ? it looks tidy , Had my own S2000 AB but sold it many years ago with my business, Big Mistake . Regards Alan

Hello Alan. Many thanks for your enquiry. With regard to a cam belt as far as I am aware having, asked the same question of my garage in the past, this model does not have a cam belt but a chain. In terms of marks on body work I do not believe there are any in addition to those mentioned in the review. Agree on your big mistake! Kind regards. Mark
