Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

The ultimate revving machine – capable of revving so high, you’d think it was a motorbike.

The Honda S2000 was first introduced in 1999 to celebrate Honda’s 50th anniversary and was produced for ten years. During that time, only ~8,000 units made it to the UK. The car featured a bulletproof 1,997cc inline four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine. The F-series engine in the S2000 held the crown for the highest specific output of a naturally aspirated engine for ten years, only being dethroned with the launch of the Ferrari 458.

This impressive output was achieved thanks to an 11.7:1 compression ratio, roller rocker valvetrain, variable valve timing (VVT), and an exceptional 1.82:1 rod-to-stroke ratio, allowing the 2.0-litre engine to hit a spine-tingling 9,000 rpm.

Finished in "Formula Red", this beautifully presented 2009 example comes from ~1.5 years ownership with our vendor with an excellent service history and has covered just ~60,691 well-cared-for miles. It comes with a current MOT valid until 07.08.2025, and being a late 2009 car is believed to be one of the last 355 made.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Carl the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The S2000 has always been one of those cars I’ve wanted to experience, it's been a pleasure.

Petrolhead Carl is no stranger to sports cars, having owned several desirable models over the years. The S2000 was precisely one of those! After searching for some time, he found this stunning example, which had been well cared for and, importantly for Carl, remained unmodified.

Having owned the car for around 18 months, he has thoroughly enjoyed his S2000 experience and is now on the hunt for his next bucket list car. In that time he's not shied away from keeping the car in top condition. A major service including valve clearances has been actioned, wheels refurbished and tyres renewed, along with brakes attended to as necessary. Carl will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

A sleek, minimalist roadster that whispers track day, even while parked at the supermarket.

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels are in excellent condition having been refurbished in the current ownership, with no damage or corrosion noted on the faces.

Carl has fitted a new set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, which have plenty of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery for more detailed images.

Bodywork

The bodywork is in excellent condition, with visually aligned shut lines, no dings or dents of note, and an exceptionally clean underside.

We have provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations. Please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished in "Formula Red", the paintwork presents exceptionally well, with no noticeable stone chips. Carl informs us that the offside quarter panel was repainted due to a minor handbag scratch across the top edge. The paint has a lovely lustre to it, and helps to show off the quality of this late production run example.

Images have been taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

All windows are in good order, with no noticeable scratches etc noted on the day.

The black fabric roof is in excellent condition and free from any damage as pictured.

Interior

With a driver-focused dash layout, the S2000 is both comfortable and practical.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in black leather, the sports seats are in excellent condition, with no significant signs of wear on the usual high-contact areas such as the bolsters. The only point to really note is a small 1cm slit in the base of the passenger seat, which a leather specialist should be able to repair.

The carpets throughout are excellent, with a set of mats fitted to help protect them. The boot is clean and tidy, with all original tools in place.

Dashboard

The dashboard is free of scuffs or marks. All instruments are working correctly, with no warning lights displayed, and the odometer reads ~60,691 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel is in good condition, with only a few very minor marks.

The leather and aluminium gearknob is in good condition, showing very little signs of wear. Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

The S2000 does exactly what Honda intended – and probably a little bit more!

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay is superbly presented, with the only issue being the rocker cover, which has some flaking paint – a common trait that shows originality.
Starting with no issues, the Honda S2000 runs as expected with no problems reported.

On the road, the gearbox engaged and performed as it should, watch the video to see and hear the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the S2000 handles superbly, with no knocks or bangs from the suspension or any other components.

Carl has had all the discs and pads replaced, mainly because the discs looked a little rusty around the edges, rather than being worn out.

The Drive

Driving a 2009 Honda S2000 is an experience that resonates with pure, unfiltered driving joy. The high-revving VTEC engine, demanding to be pushed, sings a mechanical symphony as you climb through the gears of the precise six-speed manual.

The car’s perfectly balanced chassis and sharp, responsive steering create an intimate connection with the road, inviting you to carve through corners with confidence. It’s a raw, visceral experience – a reminder of a time when driving was about more than just getting from point A to B; it was about the sheer thrill of the act itself.

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear inside the Honda is in good working order, as far as Carl is aware, with no excessive wear.

A Parrot hands-free system is also fitted.

History and Paperwork

One of the last S2000s built, the car shows 11 services, 5 former keepers, comes to market from ~1.5 year ownership and is beautifully presented.

Included with the car are both keys and fobs, along with the original owner’s manuals and invoices for past services. There are 10 stamps in the book, plus an additional main dealer invoice from July 2023, which hasn’t been stamped.

The car comes to market after ~1.5 years with Carl, it has a current MOT, valid until 7th August 2025, which it passed with no advisories. A beautifully presented, unmodified S2000 that has been well-kept, as evident from its paintwork, interior, and service history.

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and have also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights whether the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. As you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high-resolution detail – this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to assess the vehicle's condition.

Viewings are also welcomed for all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time – we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car – just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
