Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Sophisticated Jaguar class and elegance, this XK150 has been owned and cared for by avid collectors and enthusiasts.

Such iconic beauty is a scarce find in todays market. This Jag has been an integral part of a classic collection lovingly collected over the years. This model is a key player in Jaguar's motoring history, with its streamlined body shape many of the original factory design elements are still proudly on display from the embellished Le Mans badges to the leaping Jaguar sat proudly on the bonnet. Carrying on from the success of the XK120 and XK140, this model was succeeded by the E-Type in 1961.

This fixed head coupe is coming to market from 13 years ownership, and just 5 owners prior. It has been part of a collection and had some choice upgrades over the current ownership, upgraded brake callipers and power steering. An SE with its manual with overdrive gearbox, it comes with lots of history, and the current owners actually took part in a charity fundraiser with this car, touring the UK over 2 weeks to raise ~£11,000 for Cancer Research and Down Syndrome Society. Plenty of new adventures await for this car we're sure, read on to find out more.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Sally the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Part of a beloved family collection of Jaguar's - this XK150 is still a real head turner when taken out and about.

We met with the owner, Sally, who let us know a bit more about the car and its history, "My late husband and I have always loved classic Jaguars and the XK150 was part of a collection we built up over the years".

Extensive improvements have been carried out on the Jag with Sally mentioning, "The engine, gearbox, braking system have all been sympathetically restored and with the added power steering the car is fantastic to drive now!". Sally tells us, "Im selling the car as I have an injury which limits the type of cars I can drive for a length of time. The car would love to go on new adventures and have a great deal of fun with a new family". She'll be on hand to answer any question on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

This iconic XK is great example of a beautiful sporting classic, a more streamlined design but all the history still shining through from the XK range.

Wheels and Tyres

Beautiful wire 16" rims showcase the car nicely, the wheels show a little wear but nothing out of keeping with the condition of the rest of the car.

Wrapped in Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres on all four corners, the wire wheels present in good shape and the tyres have a good amount of tread on them. We have captured high resolution imagery of all four wheels, please feel free to observe our gallery images to see them in more detail.

Bodywork

In the FHC body style, the XK150 is very distinctive. These later XKs had a much higher and streamlined waistline, as well as other adjustments to make the car more usable and easier to get in and out of to its predecessors. The panels look to be in order throughout on the car, on our visit we noticed a slight drop on the passenger door but nothing that caused us any major concerns at the time of visit.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the popular colour of "Indigo Blue", its look great on this era of Jaguar. As per the Jaguar Heritage certificate, this car was original finished in "Pearl". The Jaguar XK150 is a drivers car, and this example has been loved and driven, and so ultimately is not a concours car. On our visit we noticed a few swirls evident in the paint along with some blistering of the finish across the body work. We did observe some scratches in the paintwork and some cracking of the paint on the rear quarter nearside panelling and also bubbling evident in the roof paint.

We have highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution image gallery, please take a look through the images for a detailed look at what’s on offer and assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The window seals and glass looked good and in line with the age of the car. Chrome sections look good with signs of ageing as you would expect from a car of this era.

Many lovely original features are still present on the XK. The leaping Jaguar still sits in position at the front of the car and beautifully detailed emblems, embellished with the Le Mans Jaguar XK150 winning credentials, are present at the back of the vehicle. The badges do show signs of wear, but given the heritage of this car, nothing we saw out of keeping.

Interior

A true classic and a real stand out car in Jaguar's motoring history, this XK150 retains its beautifully designed interior featuring vintage red leather.

Seats and Carpets

Sitting in the drivers seat you get a real sense of history about the Jag. We did observe that the interior had been restored in places but overall the seats are good for the age and the rear seats appear to be the original versions.

We noticed some evidence of wear from driver getting in and out of the drivers seat and signs of use where the drivers heel meets the floor for brake and clutch control.

Take a look through our hi-resolution interior gallery on this car, we've featured some more images there which showcase this in better detail.

Dashboard

We love the switches, buttons and dials on this XK. The dials themselves are in great condition and the dashboard presents well. The XK150 came with leather on the dash and door cards etc. This example is trimmed in red as it was from factory.

There is evidence of wear and some holes in the roof lining which we observed on our visit. The owner, Sally, lets us know that to the best of her knowledge the dials are all working as they should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic 4 spoke steering wheel, these very much have a period look and feel to them. On our visit we found a little cracking on the wheel itself but otherwise this presented really nicely. The gear stick was consistent with the overall presentation of the cabin.

Mechanics

With restoration work across the engine, gearbox and added power steering, this Jaguar XK150 is smooth on the roads and a lovely drive.

Engine and Gearbox

With the car having been sat for a while, we've filmed a slightly longer cold start video, while the fuel was pumped through to the engine. Once running it was fine, the petrol light showed up initially on the dash but after re-fuelling, the gauge needle rose back up. The oil pressure gauge was working and the light also came on. Whilst out on our test drive Sally took the car through the gears with the car going through these untroubled. We observed no issues at the time with grinding or crunching sounds.

The engine and gearbox have been reconditioned with the clutch and gear selection appearing to have no issues, overall the engine mechanics seemed really smooth. As mentioned, this car completed a ~3,000 mile tour around the UK to raise money for charity, joined by a Jaguar E-Type no less.

Suspension and Brakes

During our "On the Road" test drive we noticed no pull on the steering with the brakes working as they should. With upgraded callipers on the front and original Dunlop brakes to the rear, the brakes on all four corners look to be in good condition.

Whilst we were out on the test drive we noticed no knocking or shakes and no rattling was heard. We noted some slight surface rust on the brakes due to not being used for a while, however the car has been garaged when not in use so we had no major concerns about this.

The Drive

Sensibly upgraded with added side mirrors, power steering and upgraded front disc brakes this car still retains many of its original features.

Acceleration is effortless and showed no issues on our test drive. The car presents really well and is a real head turner given its heritage and presence on the road.

Electrics and Other

On our visit the petrol gauge and light was observed to be working. Sally has let us know that to the best of her knowledge, all the electrics work as they should.

History and Paperwork

A UK home market RHD, coming to market from ~13 year ownership from a collection of classic, and just 5 keepers logged prior, it's been used as designed in current ownership, touring the UK to raise money for charity.

The Jaguar originally started out its life in a "Pearl Grey" finish, changing to its current and more popular "Indigo Blue" in 1975. During its lifetime the car has had an engine rebuild in 1974 and restoration work in 1987. Sally would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the history of the car in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.
