Introduction

Adam Purrier
CEO

This is a very genuine and much loved E-Type that has only had five former keepers.

In terms of originality, the car is in its factory colour with matching frame numbers – true the engine isn’t the original but it is a 4.2 and runs very lovely indeed – of course there has been an adjustment in the car’s reserve price.

If you’re in the market for a proper series one that you can use and enjoy for the fraction of the money, then surely this car has to be it.

Jo will be sad to see it go, however, she does want it to go to another loving home – could that be you?

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Adam after meeting Jo the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Jo bought this E-Type nearly eleven years ago back in 2008 and has used and enjoyed it since – especially in the first few years as it was her ‘daily driver’ – big respect to Jo!

Jo is a Jaguar fan through and through and this was clear to see from the moment of arriving at her home – not only was this lovely E-Type parked in the summer sun, but it was also accompanied by a newer version – the latest F-Type.

The car has been well looked after during Jo’s ownership. Please see the invoices and receipts to see what has been done over the years. For example, Jo spent over £8,000 in the first year on items like paintwork and complicated fixes including torsion bars. Jo also spent around £7,000 a couple of years later on items such as waxoil, Kenlowe fan, Thatcham alarm, bushes and roll bars, and even over £2,200 on power steering. Yes this car has power steering – arguably should have been a factory option.

Jo has not skimped on maintenance and she’s now ready to let the car go to a new owner to love and enjoy. Why? Well just because she doesn’t use it that much these days and she wants someone else to love and enjoy it.

Exterior

This is one rare colour and arguably one of the best – Opalescent Golden Sand as confirmed in the Certificate of Authenticity.

Wheels & Tyres

The car is sitting on wire wheels that are in good condition but would benefit from a good clean – please take a look at the photos and video to see in more detail.

Bodywork

Jo had the car resprayed back in 2009 with the windows removed – considering this was over ten years ago it has survived very well.

There are now a few signs of bubbling that need attending to, particularly on the driver’s side – please see the videos and images to review the bodywork.

The panel gaps and shut-lines do look quite good as these cars are prone to uneven gaps. The passenger door needs its striker plate adjusting, as it’s not closing flush, however, you can push the door in to review the fit which is good.

Paint

The Golden Sand paint is in good condition – as mentioned, the car had a complete panel respray in 2009 and the finish is even. You can see the original spray behind the gauges in the centre of the dashboard.

Due to the age of the vehicle we recommend you take a look at the extensive video review for all the detail.

Glass and Trim

All the glass on the car looked in good condition. The chrome is good and would benefit from some time spent polishing.

We have taken extensive pictures of all the glass and trim for you to assess the full condition.

Interior

The original interior was ‘Light Tan’ and this has been refurbished in recent years with black leather and matching door cards.

Seats and Carpets

In black leather; both the drivers and passengers seats look in great condition. There is not much wear visible in the normal spots. Although not the original colour, the black leather does look rather lovely against the Golden Sand exterior.

The carpets look in good condition too.

Dashboard

The dash is in original condition and shows wear in line with the age of the vehicle. Please take a look at the pictures.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The car still has its original steering wheel and is in good condition – please see the photographs and videos for a closer look.

Mechanics

Jo has spent a lot of money over the years maintaining the vehicle – for example the torsion bars were replaced and important items like bushes.

Engine and Gearbox

You’ll notice by the fluted cam covers that the engine may not be original to the car. This is true, it’s a 4.2 litre engine but not the one originally fitted to the car, as it doesn’t match the CoA or chassis plate.

Please take a look at the videos to see the engine start from cold and on the run – it did perform very well and returned good oil pressure both when hot and cold.

Suspension and Brakes

As a passenger it felt like the suspension performed correctly as we drove around the Cambridgeshire countryside to a maximum speed of about 50 mph.

When coming up to junctions and stopping, the car performed as it should as you can see in the videos.

The Drive

A short drive on some country lanes, and some traffic through the little villages, the car pulled us along in comfort and felt very smooth.

The power steering really making a difference when in traffic and parking.

Electrics and Other

There aren’t many electrical items on a car of this age, however, Jo has reported that everything is working as it should with the car.

History and Paperwork

The car comes with an extensive 'media pack' including the Jaguar Certificate of Authenticity.

As mentioned, Jo has owned this car for eleven years and history is included – please take a look at the images to see all the service history, MOT records and invoices that show important work undertaken.

The car is showing just over 25,058 miles as of 04.07.2019.

HPI clear.

Hi. Could you clarify the purchase price? There seems to be various prices held? On eBay it has one price , in the description it has another and in the reply below it shows an even higher price? The non matching engine has a huge impact on value and the car will need a professional full respray to ensure the car is maintained to the standard it deserves. Has any investigation been made with previous owners to try and establish where the original engine is or to the reasons is was replaced? I love the fact that Jo used the car, rather than it just being stuck in a garage, so we’ll done Jo. My interest is also because the Jaguar was born in the same year I was.
Clarity on the price and any information that could possibly locate the original engine would be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Martyn

Hi, first of all, it is a lovely car! I just wondered if you could tell me why the engine was replaced and additonally why was the respray carried out (was the car involved in an accident)?
