Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A LHD example with a 5-speed gearbox makes it the perfect EU classic grand tourer.

Manufactured between 1961 and 1974 the Jaguar E-Type is admired on the world stage, by both those in the know and those that are not, as one of the most iconic cars in motoring history thanks to its gorgeous styling and stellar performance.

This particular example has been with our vendor, Tom, for the previous 8 years - the car's roots were originally in the U.S and more recently it was subject to a past restoration in the Netherlands. It has triple carburettors and benefits from electronic ignition.

The car comes with a wealth of history including MOTs, and previous restoration work carried out by specialists - Lex Classics.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Tom the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Owning a Jaguar E-Type has been a dream of mine for many years - the past 8 years with this example has been a real delight.

As mentioned, Tom has owned this Jaguar for the previous ~8 years - during that time he has only used the E-Type for special journeys, and the occasional holidays around the UK, reserving it only for sunny days.

Tom would love to keep the E-Type as part of his collection, although as he doesn’t use the car as much as he once did, he has now decided to free up the garage space for a new project car.

Tom will be on hand to answer any questions on the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Sleek and sophisticated, the E-Type is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

Wheels and Tyres

The chrome wire wheels with Jaguar spinners look in very good condition - it is in line with the little use the car has seen, we didn't spot and obvious signs of age or damage etc.

The wheels are fitted with Michelin XWX tyres and these appear to also be in good condition too, and are dated 2009 - there it the slightest sign of cracking on the side walls beginning to appear.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this E-Type looks in very good condition - during our visit we didn't spot any major marks or damage to the car.

The only areas we did notice was a very small crack on off side wing near the sill, and some light corrosion on the near side front wheel arch.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Resprayed in a "Midnight Blue" colour during the restoration in Holland, the paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork and paint for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this E-Type example looks in very good condition; we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit - the window seals look good too.

The chrome trim and window surrounds all look in good original condition.

Please take a look at the exterior photos to see the exterior in great detail.

Interior

The car oozes class, comfort and luxury from its leather and wood trimmed cabin.

Seats and Carpets

The light coloured leather seats pair very well with the Midnight Blue paintwork and have held their shape very well over the years.

A similar story is told with the door cards and cream carpets - all very good.

Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The wood facia dashboard in this E-Type shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs.

With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~56,344 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel it presented in good condition with the odd mark to the E-Type Jaguar centre badge.

The manual 5-speed gear stick looks in good condition too.

Please take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

The eager 4.2L straight six produced a very impressive ~265bhp back in the day.

Engine and Gearbox

On the day of our visit we started the car from cold and it performed well out on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

The car benefits from an uprated 5-speed manual gearbox.

Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the E-Type, and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Last year Tom had the rear trailing arms replaced - the suspension appears in good condition and provided a smooth, stable and composed journey on the sweeping country roads.

On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Jaguar E-Type from this era - a good amount of power and coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

The E-Type is a real joy to drive, and is admired by all onlookers.

The E-Type fired up the first time with no issues to report.

On the road we didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Tom reports all the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

We're told the only item that doesn't work is the air conditioning, plus it has one of the plastic vents missing too.

History and Paperwork

Benefitting from a recommission before importation to the UK, this example comes equipped with a healthy amount of history and perfect for longer European trips being LHD with a 5-speed gearbox.

The car is coming out of a ~8 year ownership with Tom. The car has bags of originality and comes with a radio player, spare tire, and hammer. Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, and restoration receipts/photographs Tom is selling this car with.

Please note, collection after the 2nd September will need to be delayed by ~2 weeks due to the seller availability.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
