Introduction

This is a good example of a Series 2 2+2 FHC model - the OEM Light Blue and original interior (leather and wood) underpins the quality and heritage of this car, and always turns heads.

I have owned the car for ~8 years and there have only been 2 previous owners. The 1st owner had the car for 36+ years. I have always wanted an E-Type and keep this car in my air-conditioned man cave, but my passion for motorcycles is greater and my collection takes up all my time.

I realise the E-Type needs an enthusiast that will use the car more than I have.

Market Auction

Julian, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Julian provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Julian provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

The blue colour is very distinctive and shiny - coupled with the chrome crown wheel hubs they compliment the look of the car without the fuss and maintenance of spoked wheels.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are original crown hubs in good condition that polish up well with the to be expected signs of wear for ~56 year old car.

Bodywork

The condition of the bodywork is very good - there are no signs of exposed rust or need for any immediate attention.

I have provided pictures of all the critical areas of the underside of the car to demonstrate the excellent condition of the chassis and sub frame.

I had the car inspected by an independent mechanic in January 2025. The mechanic could not identify any requirements for maintenance to the bodywork as a whole, including the underside.

Paint

The paintwork polishes very well without any exposed blemishes. The majority of the texture and shine is excellent.

There are some minor areas where the paint is not completely smooth but is not cracked or exposed and not in need of any immediate attention.

Glass and Trim

There are no chips or cracks in any of the glass.

The trim is original with as to be expected signs of wear in a few places.

Interior

No immediate need to refurbish the interior of the car - the original leather and finishes reflect the age and heritage of this ~56 year old car.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are in the original dark blue leather with some minor signs of wear on the entry side of the driver's seat. I deliberately left it as is, but a perfectionist may want to apply some dark blue leather restorer wax cream.

The dark blue carpets are original, complimented with dark blue carpet mats for further protection and comfort.

The roof liner has been replaced and some door trims could be replaced.

Dashboard

Original switches are in working order.

The original radio works but I have not bothered to pull up the fixed aerial.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Original wooden steering wheel and manual gear stick, both in very good condition.

Mechanics

The engine compartment and engine is clean and accessible.

Engine and Gearbox

Due to limited use I have kept the car battery on trickle charge. The engine always fires up and idles very well when warmed up.

The car drives very well and is great fun to drive, as to be expected from the 4.2 litre straight six engine!

Suspension and Brakes

A recent inspection did not identify and issues to be addressed.

The Drive

I can leave the car for months and start it with full choke and several turns of the engine from cold.

I always enjoy driving the car - the engine and gear box respond very well without any performance issues.

Electrics and Other

All the electrics were thoroughly checked (a few years ago) by an E-Type specialist ensuring all switches work.

History and Paperwork

Only 3 previous owners - the 1st owner had the car for ~36 years.

Due to very limited use the service history is limited.

Historic restoration receipts

A few old parts.

From Trade Classics:

This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
