Succeeding the iconic E-Type, stock of the XJS has risen significantly over the past few years, cementing its place as a fast appreciating classic.

Produced from 1975 to 1996, the XJ-S received a number of changes over the production run, this example coming in the middle known as the XJ-S HE. The biggest change to this generation was the "High-Efficiency" V12 engine that was now able to produce nearly 300BHP, that's Porsche 911 Turbo (930) territory remember, but these cars were a very different proposition. Luxury grand touring was the generally where these cars were positioned, although privateer teams and TWR successfully raced the XJS and gave the model further appeal.

This example is coming to market from nearly 25 years ownership, has covered just ~45,000 miles in that time and just a handful of owners. It's in excellent solid condition, clearly a fair weather car, it is presented in a desirable red over cream colour combination and is ready for the summer with a fresh MOT actioned.

Meet the owner

What a pleasure it's been to own this V12, we've enjoyed many a summer enjoyed with it.

Brian has been the proud owner of this XJ-S for nearly 25 years. In that time he's covered ~10,000 miles, that's just an average of 400 miles a year. It's just been used for high days and holidays.

He's kept the car serviced by his local mechanic over the years, some larger maintenance items actioned in 2018 as documented. It is somewhat of a reluctant sale for Brian and his wife, the car has only travelled around 300 miles in the last 6 years, and sadly some health related issues have meant that they feel the car needs a new home. Brian will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Careful ownership and light use over the years have meant the car still looks great to this day.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the 15" lattice wheels, they look in very good condition like the rest of the exterior on this example, they are wrapped in Pirelli tyres on all 4 wheels. On two of the wheels there is some light surface corrosion under the paint near the air valve, other than that they look unmarked and all proudly wearing their Jaguar centre caps.

Bodywork

The vast panels on this XJS looks great. Shut lines and panel gaps look good, and we didn't observe any major dents or defects in the body. The hood on the car also looks in very good condition as pictured.

Paint

Finished in a classic red from Jaguar, it's a popular choice for a convertible XJS. The colour looks great on this example, even in colour across all the panels, and the finish eludes to a cherished life it has led. Take a look at the video and photo review to see the detail.

Glass and Trim

Both look excellent on this example. The headlight lenses look good, you often see the classic one piece examples with significant fogging on these classics, not on this example. The chrome and rubber trim around the bumpers of the car also look great. The only area of note we spotted to was the chrome trim around the top centre of the windscreen looking like it needed attention.

Interior

Although the car offered near 300BHP, it was designed from the inside with luxury in mind to cross continents with ease.

Seats and Carpets

Leather seats with deep bolsters are designed to transport you in complete comfort. The car features a cream leather interior with contrasting sand carpets. In general, the seats are in good condition with no rips/tears to the leather. However the piping and outer bolsters of both seats have seen better days and we know the new owner will want to get these fixed to elevate the condition of the car.

Dashboard

Walnut trimmed, the dashboard oozes luxury in this grand tourer. The classic dials and gauges are a delight to look at and add to the classic experience in this XJS.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic XJS steering wheel looks in good condition, and the automatic gear selector and surrounding area in the same condition too.

Mechanics

The second generation of this V12 XJS known as HE produced near 300BHP and claims of MPG figures above 20.

Engine and Gearbox

V12's are fast becoming a rare and endangered species, and so to see one kept in great condition is what enthusiasts like to see. We filmed a short start-up video so you could hear the car spring in to life, watch the video to see the detail.

Brian has kept the car serviced with his local mechanic, and reports that the engine pushes the car through the gears without issue.

Suspension and Brakes

The car has seen gentle use over the past 6 years, only around 300 miles covered locally. Brian reports that cars brakes work well, and that the ride is similarly compliant. There are a few advisories on the last MOT relating to bushes etc that you'd likely expect for a car of this age.

The Drive

A smooth and powerful V12 upfront, the drive on this grand tourer is all about sitting back in luxury and letting the miles just pass by in comfort.

Electrics and Other

A classic example fitted with the original style one piece headlight lenses that are a personal favourite of ours, Brian reports that all the electrics on the car work to his knowledge. As detailed in the invoice history, the electric windows were worked on by his mechanic in the last couple of years.

A long ownership of nearly 25 years and careful light use has made for a lovely low mileage example of Jaguars V12 XJS.

Brian has owned this lovely low mileage XJS, covering just ~10,000 miles in his ownership to take the car to ~45,000 miles. It has just 3 former keepers and comes with a host of MOTs and invoices to chart the mileage over that time.

The car is coming to sale somewhat reluctantly due to some recent health changes. Brian and his wife just aren't able to use the car like they used to and so they are looking for an enthusiast to take over ownership. A fresh MOT has been actioned on the car, a similar story to the MOT before the pandemic with the car barely having covered 100 miles in that time.
