Introduction

Kulraj Singh Salh
COO

A world class luxury grand tourer, the XJR-S in 6.0L form is arguably the pick of the bunch and faster than its BMW, Porsche and Ferrari equivalents.

With a production run of over 20 years, the XJS is really coming in to it's prime now. Over 100,000 units were sold, with a number of variations coming over the years. The pick of the bunch was XJR-S 6.0L, producing in the region of 333BHP from the V12 block.

This example is coming to market from ~28 years of ownership, just one previous owner before that, and if presented in excellent condition in its "Black Cherry" over cream colourway. The vendor is a Jaguar enthusiast, and has kept this car dry stored in a temperature controlled environment and only on the rarest occasions has it seen rain, the condition speaks for itself as well as the necessary maintenance record.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kulraj after meeting Mike the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I absolutely love the XJR-S, but three Jags and some storage challenges means one has to go.

Mike purchased this 6.0L back in 1993 when it was just 1 years old. Thought to have been owned by management at Jaguar, Mike used the car regularly when first purchased. He put some 60,000 miles on the clock in his first 10 years of ownership with annual servicing at Mead of Burnham. Since 2004 it's been a different story, just ~7,000 miles travelled with the car only used for special occasions, shows and club meets.

The car has never been left wanting for anything, and more recently has had a major overhaul of the braking system and rear axle at just the slightest sign of need. Mike tells us that the car has never needed any welding work on the chassis, due to his careful ownership and storage, and he's kept the car in excellent condition over his ownership. With a downsizing in external storage space, and room for only 2 Jaguars at home, Mike has decided it's time to sell his 6.0L XJR-S coupe and so it comes to auction with us. He'll be happy to answer any questions you have on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

You don't see many of these 6.0L XJR-S versions in Black Cherry, the perfect match for the de-chromed trim that came with this model.

Wheels and Tyres

Coming with the correct and larger 16" wheels for this 6.0L XJR-S variant, they present in very good condition. Just the slightest of marks you might spot on one or two of the wheels. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli tyres all around which look in similar condition, view the image gallery to see the details.

Bodywork

Just subtle touches and styling on the 6.0L Sport, the body coloured front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler mean you need a keen eye to know what lies beneath on this car.

Mike has kept the car dry stored and rarely has the car seen any rain. The result is an excellent solid car, we didn't observe any signs of corrosion and Mike informs us that the car has never needed any welding work to the chassis etc. The rear bumper which is a plastic item has been replaced after a small bump in the car park split the original bodywork, the replacement item has a small disfigurement on the rear nearside near the wheel arch which is the only thing to note when looking at the bodywork.

Shut-lines and panel gaps all look excellent, with the doors and bonnet/boot all opening and closing with ease.

Paint

Finished in the Jaguar colour of "Black Cherry", it adds further to the subtlety on this 6.0L V12, it's definitely a far cry from the red examples! The paint is excellent on this car. Mike had the car repainted around 6 years ago when the rear bumper was replaced. He opted to have the whole car painted again to freshen it up.

The colour and finish on the paint are even across all of the panels, when the light catches it right you can just get a hint of that deep cherry like colour coming through. Take a look at the video review to see the condition.

Glass and Trim

De-chromed and just 3 unique badges, the trim on the XJR-S doesn't shout about its motorsport origins. The glass and trim all look in excellent condition, careful storage and use over the past ~28 years has ensure this car still looks the part today.

Interior

A luxury grand tourer, these cars came packed with all the tricks like fully adjustable heated electric seats that made crossing continents a doddle.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in cream coloured leather, the XJR-S came with Connolly Autolux leather, a proper GT luxury interior. The seats are in excellent condition having been re-trimmed as part of an interior overhaul in 2014. The car had just the slightest of marks on the door cards and some light wear to the bolsters, this just didn't sit right with Mike and so he had Aldridge's of Wolverhampton do the work to bring it up to the condition you see today.

All the leather and trim looks excellent, tightly fitted along with the carpets. The headlining was also replaced to ensure an excellent matched finish.

Dashboard

The dashboard and associated trim look in excellent condition. The XJR-S were fitted with walnut wood trim to the dashboard, centre console and doors, these look great with nothing to note.

View the video review to see the front of the interior in detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with the correct model specific items, the XJR-S came with a unique 4 spoke "Sport" steering wheel and leather wrapped automatic gear selector. Both look in very good condition, in line with the mileage of the car.

Mechanics

Arguably the pick of the bunch when it comes to the XJS, the 6.0L XJR-S pushed our ~333BHP giving it a ~160MPH top speed, world beater in its class.

Engine and Gearbox

Featuring the distinctive "Sport" trim on the V12 air-intakes, the car fired up from cold with no issues, a smooth tick-over and sound when increasing the revs with no untoward smoke.

We took the car out on a quick drive to put it through its paces, smooth gear changes and the power was definitely on tap when needed on the open road. The 6.0L was fitted with a 3 speed GM400 unit with modifications for faster shift times.

Suspension and Brakes

A modified suspension to go with the 16" wheels, the 6.0L featured Bilstein shocks and modified springs, a much better handling car. You'll see through the paperwork that Mike has had suspension work covered whenever needed, a smooth ride with no knocks or rattles when we were out.

Recently, Mike has had all the brakes overhauled, front brake calipers replaced and the rear inboard brakes refurbished and replaced when some remedial work on the rear axle was being actioned.

The Drive

Luxury GT with that hidden performance under the hood. The drive on the XJR-S is assured, its got all the power you'd need, handling to match it, and a ride quality with cabin that means you can cover miles and miles with ease.

Electrics and Other

Fully kitted out, the XJR-S is a luxury grand tourer after all, heated electric adjustable seats with memory function for the drivers seat. The car is fitted with the original stereo and rear mounted CD changer. Mike tells us that everything works on the car to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Just one former keeper, and coming to market from ~28 years ownership, excellent condition and in stunning Black Cherry over cream, cars like this don't come to market very often clearly.

Coming from a collection of Jaguars which also includes a convertible version of the XJR-S 6.0L and a very unique Mk2 3.8 MOD that is running on fuel injection, Mike the seller has owned this Black Cherry XJR-S 6.0L for the past ~28 years. He purchased the car when it was just 1 years old and believes it was owned by a Jaguar manager before him.

Careful ownership, regular maintenance and clearly a passion for Jaguars has meant this example as worn its years incredibly well. You'll find a whole host of service records with main dealers charting the life and mileage of the car, and MOTs to substantiate the history too. View the extensive history to see the provenance the car comes with. Please note the private registration number will not be included with the sale.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5C, HPi.

Hi,
Is air conditioning available on this vehicle?
I see a lot of parts, painted to body color, like mirrors (should be chrome), is that the original paint?

If the guide price was more realistic you would
have more bidders than currently are bidding.
