Introduction
Glyn Parry
With presentation that has to be seen to be believed, this is possibly one of the best looking examples of a Jaguar XJ40 we've seen.
Officially unveiled in October 1986, the Jaguar XJ40 was the all-new, second generation of the XJ built to replace the Series III. The XJ40 was at the time, the most extensively tested vehicle the company had ever developed with designs for the XJ40 pioneering significant improvements to how Jaguar cars were designed, built, and assembled. To date, the XJ40 and its later derivatives, is the second longest running Jaguar XJ platform with a total production run of ~17 years.
Presenting exceptionally well, this is a real shining example of an exceptional Jaguar - great looking Diamond Blue Metallic paint finish shows in stunning condition and all areas of the bodywork looked fantastic.
The XJ40 has benefitted from regular Jaguar servicing over its lifetime from new until 2012, following this the Jaguar was equally well maintained with the last service actioned in 2019. Interestingly the car has had previous ownership from 'titled' keepers which is reflected in the great level of care, upkeep and maintenance given to the Jaguar. Having only had 4 owners since new, the XJ40 comes to market from ~3 years present ownership.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Is this car long wheel base version and also has it had a cam belt or chain replacement please?
Hi there,
Can you confirm if the car needs any recommissioning before being used or if it is currently ready to drive away? Are both sets of keys and remotes present and do both remotes work? Is the electric aerial fully working?
Does the car run on normal E10 or super unleaded such as Shell V-Power? Finally, I’m a trade buyer so if my bid is successful will it acceptable to provide me with the full V5, excluding the completed trade slip? I have motor trade insurance.
Many thanks for your help and the best of luck with the auction.
Kind regards,
The car needs no further recommissioning – it has recently returned from a specialist (see documents) and was found to start on the button and run and drive beautifully. The car has 2 sets of working keys and remotes. The electric aerial does work. I would not recommend E10 petrol and would use only high octane E5. And lastly, yes happy to use the trade slip. Hope that helps, it’s a beauty, absolutely no disappointments! Paul – Heritage Classics
Thanks for getting back to me with the information and having seen one or two similar models online, the asking price are just in 5 figures which may be a little too expensive for me at the moment. I’m sure the car will achieve a worth while price, as the car looks wonderful.
Thanks again and a happy new year to you.
Joe
Good evening, I am a complete novice to car auctions, as I have never bought a car like this in my life but noticed your beautiful jaguar and wouldn’t like to waste your time but May I ask what approximate price are you hoping to achieve for the car please? I would, as am sure others would be very keen to own this lovely car. I had one many years ago and always promised myself another someday. Thank you so much for your time, it’s much appreciated.
Regards. Joe
Hi Joe
without telling you the cars’ reserve what I would say is that the best way to try to confirm a sensible price for any car is to benchmark – have a shop around and find something as close to this condition and specification and that will give you an idea. What I will say is that the car is exceptional and that as such it comes down to what its worth to you to own something that’s probably close to unique given this mileage, condition and history.
Plus – there is no time wasting – that’s the benefit of Trade Classics – you have an overload of information upfront to decide wisely. Hope that helps.

Hi, I’ve noticed a few references to AC/Heating systems in the service paperwork. Do the heating and air conditioning work well at present?
I’d also look at the underside of the oil filler cap if I were able to view the car in person.
Is there any evidence of sludge or condensation in the cooling system?
I can’t see any evidence of coolant changes in the visible service records. Is it maybe on pages which haven’t been shown?
Thank you for your help.
Hi
You’ll see that the car has covered lass than 700 miles since its last service which included the A/C system. We ran the car when it was damp and around freezing and the A/C and heating combined to clear the screens effectively.
There are no signs of emulsification or sludge in the filler caps, the coolant is not normally exchanged unless the antifreeze concentration is below spec.
On both of these queries I’d add that the owner is absolutely fastidious and demanded the best there is – had there been any issues apparent he would have had them resolved.
Hope that helps
Paul
Thank you.
Hi – Just to say I’m Heritage Classics selling the car on behalf of the owner. That’s not because its a trade in or a financial arrangement but because the owner is a personal friend who asked for my help as I’m more clued up on these processes in theory!
Having said that I’d be pleased to answer any questions related to my knowledge (of old) and drive in the car, and to make contact with the owner for anything I don’t know – ask away….
