Carving its own bit of automotive history, the XJS is appreciating as it matures as a solid, classic grand tourer.

The XJS is a fantastic and highly sought-after grand tourer produced by Jaguar from 1975 to 1996, based on the XJ saloon platform it was noted for the unique prominent rear flying buttresses with early styling drawn by Jaguars best aerodynamicist, Malcolm Sayer. While this classic remains remarkable value for money, they are quickly appreciating and no wonder, just look at it. Late models like this example featured a robust straight six engine, as opposed to the slightly more exotic V12, many say the six cylinder makes for a better all round car.

This example has been in the careful hands of Trevor for the previous 5 years. Keeping it dry stored and SORN in the winter months, as can be seen from the mileage records the car has seen occasional use, and mainly been a thing of beauty for the current owner to marvel at then crossing continents. A simply beautiful piece of engineering, it never fails to get attention for the right reasons!

Trevor purchased this lovely XJS convertible back in 2017, while in the market for a grand tourer to enjoy his retirement in. Since his ownership, he's covered very little mileage, only ~500 miles over ~5 years. Always dry stored and SORN in the winter months, he's kept it MOT'd and the last few years make for quick reading with no advisories and little mileage added.

The convertible XJS has quickly become an appreciating classic, the E-Type left big shoes to fill but as time goes on this design has set its own path.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the 16" 5-Spoke XJS wheels, they look in very good condition like the rest of the exterior on this example. They are wrapped in Arivo Premio ARZ1 tyres on all 4 wheels, dated 2017. One thing to note, on the rear offside alloy we noticed a very small curb mark.

Bodywork

The shut lines appear straight and tight on this XJS, a fine example. The doors, bonnet and boot all open and close cleanly and precisely. The convertible roof mechanism works well and opens promptly.

There was also a very small patch of bubbling along the offside side skirt. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in what we believe to be 'Solent Blue Metallic' the colour of this XJS is a really graceful shade that suits the classic retro looks. Each panel presents a deep lustre along with even coverage and colour throughout.

When getting very close to the bodywork we noticed a small mark on the rear bumper, along with a scuff on the front offside wing. The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage, we didn't notice any obvious chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The convertible hood appears in very good shape, and fully operational, as seen in the mechanical video. The rest of the trim also looks great, the classic one piece headlamp lenses looking clear and not yellowing like you often see on these cars.

Luxuriously equipped and built with the finest materials, you'll never want to leave this cabin space!

Seats and Carpets

The electrically adjustable XJS seats are finished in grey leather and make the cabin a very comfortable place to be, especially on long journeys.

We observed some very light creasing to the driver's seat bolster, however, all the seats look very good for the age and mileage of the car. The cabin matches the rest of the car, in great condition throughout.

Dashboard

Walnut trimmed, the dashboard offers a luxurious touch of styling in this grand tourer. The classic dials and gauges are a delight to look at and add to the classic experience in this XJS.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original black leather steering wheel presents in great condition and no signs of excessive wear.

The automatic gear selector looks in great condition. 'Speed' or Cruise control is also fitted in this car with the controls on the central column.

Mechanics

Power is delivered on-demand from the AJ6 straight-six neatly tucked under the hood, coupled to the ultra-smooth auto gearbox.

Engine and Gearbox

This example was built with the silky and refined 4.0L AJ6 straight-six, this engine offers the perfect blend of economy and performance. The car offers up ~222BHP for you to tap into, and will hit 60MPH in 8.9s, not bad indeed for a large luxury grand tourer.

We carried out our usual cold start video which can be seen in the mechanical video. Watch Trevor turn over the car and let simmer down to idle with no issues.

Suspension and Brakes

Trevor reports this XJS upholds its prompt stopping power.

Underneath, the car it appears it's free from any major corrosion and he Trevor mentions it's been wax oiled, he also confirms the suspension and brakes are in full working order with no unusual sounds or vibrations when driving.

The Drive

Due to unexpected roadworks we were unable to capture the 'On the Road' portion of the video but Trevor assures us that the car drives very well. Offering silky smooth performance from the mighty AJ6, this grand tourer is ideal for long cruises around the continent.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics on the car are said to be working, including the lighting and locking systems. The electric windows and convertible roof work very well. The original Jaguar cassette radio is fitted, which keeps the cabin space very original.

A very attractive grand tourer, this UK RHD 4.0L auto spec finished in a desirable Solent Blue Metallic is not one to miss.

The condition of this XJS belies the mileage of ~115,000, coming out of 5 years of treasured ownership with Trevor, it only seen around ~500 miles in that time. The XJS has a very clean MOT report history over the past years, with the current MOT expiring in June with no advisories present.
