Introduction

Dom Ginn
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

Powerful, luxurious, exotic and presented in stunning Ice Blue - this XK8 is a cool cat.

Beautifully styled with more than a nod to the iconic E-Type, the XK8 combined incredible looks & comfort with innovation to become the best selling Jaguar sports car ever. Historically, Jaguar had utilised a Daimler V8, but this car pioneered the first, Jaguar developed, V8 unit. With 32 valves, variable valve timing and a power output of ~290BHP, this smooth, relaxed engine gave the car a 0-60MPH time of 6.5 seconds and a governed top speed of 155MPH.

Styled by Fergus Pollock and introduced at the 1996 Geneva motor show, over 90,000 of these elegant, evocative, sports tourers were sold, mainly to UK and US markets. The XJ8 delivers a communicative, exhilarating, and engaging driving experience. It’s a worthy successor to the XJS and has, rightly, secured a well-earned place in the Jaguar Hall of Fame.

This stunning, one owner convertible comes to auction in “Metallic Ice Blue” over an ivory leather interior. In great overall condition with comprehensive service history, this XK8 has covered fewer than ~15,000 miles in the last decade. There’s still plenty of the summer left to lower the hood and enjoy this iconic, luxury sports tourer.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Peter the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I bought this car as soon as Jaguar released the new model – its fantastic fun to drive and still feels like new, I love it.

Sports car enthusiast, Peter, bought this car new and has loved owning it ever since. He tells us “I was looking for a more practical but fun car to replace my Morgan and the XJ8 really did fit the bill – it’s rewarding to drive, and my grandchildren love it when the roof is down”.

He goes on to say “The car is completely standard, original, specification and has great service history - I’m selling it now as I’m spending more time away and it gets little use. Last year, I only did 500 miles”. Having spent over £5,000 on this car recently, he'd love to see it go to a good home. Peter will be happy to answer any questions about this lovely, V8, convertible in the comments section below.

Exterior

Poise, elegance and flowing feline lines – undeniable Jaguar lineage, style, and character.

Wheels and Tyres

The 5 spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels are in good condition with only minor kerbing and age-related marks. The centre badges are good, and the wheels are wearing Pirelli 245/50 ZR17 tyres all round which we understand were all replaced in 2016. The tyres have good tread remaining.

View the images to see the detail.

Bodywork

Overall, the bodywork looks fantastic. The car stands straight, shut lines look good and boot, bonnet and both doors open and close with precision. We could see no distortion in the panels and wheel arches and cills appear in good condition.

The electric hood opens and closes properly and is showing only minor, age-related, wear as would be expected.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The beautiful, “Ice Blue” (MDP 821) paintwork looks absolutely stunning. The finish is even and consistent with a deep shine right across the car. There are some, minor, age-related marks but we really had to search to find them. For a 25-year-old car the finish is remarkable.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

Side windows, mirrors and lenses generally appear very good with no significant marks or scratches. Badging looks great – hard to believe this car is 25 years old. There is a small chip in the front windscreen as can be seen from the photos and video.

Interior

Beautiful Burl walnut dash and ivory leather trim results in a highly luxurious cabin - all the hallmarks of a classic Jaguar

Seats and Carpets

The stunning ivory leather seats, trim and coffee-coloured carpets look remarkable. There are some small signs of wear on the front seats, but we really are being picky - overall this cabin presents beautifully.

Take a look at the high-resolution images and Interior video to really appreciate condition of this interior for yourself.

Dashboard

The Burl Walnut dash really looks in excellent shape. All the instruments and switches look great, and we could find no peeling or crazing of the varnish, inconsistencies in the shine or scratches.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

As with the rest of the interior the Burl Walnut and leather trimmed steering wheel looks fantastic and the stitching is undamaged. The burl walnut gear knob, auto selector and centre console look fantastic.

Mechanics

The smooth, effortless power from Jaguars debut V8 is delivered through a slick 5 speed automatic gearbox to a wonderful soundtrack – utterly intoxicating!

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay appears clean and the ~290BHP V8 engine looks great, it can take the car to 60MPH in 6.5 seconds, delivers a top speed of ~155MPH and sounds fantastic.

On our cold start the car started easily and immediately settled down to a steady and even idle. Emissions looked clear and oil pressure appeared good. Take a look at the ‘On the Road’ video where you can experience the brief test drive.

Suspension and Brakes

Peter assures us that brakes and suspension all work as they should. With vented discs front and rear, ABS, and traction control, underpinned by Jaguar engineering, this car will stop as well as it goes.

The Drive

Peter told us the car drives like new and it certainly felt that way. The car pulled well, the ride was smooth and the soundtrack fantastic. Steering seemed precise and the car stopped quickly and evenly.

We could hear no trim rattle or untoward sounds from the engine, gearbox, or suspension. Overall, a wonderful drive. Check out the "On the Road" video to share in our experience.

Electrics and Other

The car is equipped with air conditioning, electric windows and hood, traction control selection, and a period radio cassette player. All dials, switches and other electrical controls appear unbroken and in good condition. Peter assures us everything works exactly as it should.

History and Paperwork

Examples like this are getting hard to find - one owner, great service history and fantastic colourway make this a highly attractive package.

Jaguar have made plenty of beautiful cars and the this is undoubtedly one of them. Stylist, Fergus Pollock absolutely hit the mark. Unapologetically drawing inspiration from the E-Type he ensured the XK8 found a place in the hearts of sports car enthusiasts worldwide. This became the best selling sports car in Jaguars history.

This is a great opportunity to own a beautiful luxury sports car that offers rewarding, communicative driving. Paperwork includes a fully documented service history, original service manual, radio instructions, receipts for recent works and two keys.

The private registration N13 PJR will not be sold with the car and an age-related plate will be issued.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Peter, your car looks beautiful!
I’m a jaguar enthusiast, some might say addict

May I ask if the plastic chain tensioners/ guides have been replaced?

Are there any known issues ?

Thanks
Nick
