Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A rare and highly sought-after limited run of the XKR - the Silverstone edition comes with performance upgrades and design tweaks.

The Jaguar XKR Silverstone Edition was first launched in the run-up to the 2000 British Grand Prix to celebrate Jaguar's return to Formula 1 with Johnny Herbert and Eddie Irvine behind the wheel. ~500 Silverstone Editions were ever produced. The car received several subtle yet performance-focused upgrades, with improvements to the chassis, Brembo brakes and CATS suspension. 20" BBS Detroit wheels. In addition to the mechanical tweaks, the car came with leather sports seats and most cars came with "smoke" maple veneer trim as standard.

This car is coming to market from 3 years ownership, very little mileage covered in that time. This car was optioned with ivory interior over the standard black/charcoal leather that most Silverstone editions came with. A car that's been thoroughly enjoyed, we'd describe this as a drivers example that's ready for a new owner to put through its paces.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This Silverstone edition really stood out to me, a limited run to celebrate Jaguars motorsport heritage and participation.

Steve has owned the car since 2019, and since then this Silverstone XKR has been his enjoyable weekend GT. He was shopping around for an XKR, the exclusivity of the limited run and options from the standard trim this one came with. Along with the BBS Detroit alloys the XKR Silverstone received upgrades to both its design and performance.

He has decided to sell the car after not using it as much as he once did. He mentions he'd like to see it go to a like-minded Jaguar enthusiast who will use and appreciate the car as much as he has. Steve will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

The XKR Silverstone further reflects Jaguars motorsport heritage, the BBS alloys and drilled brake discs given the exterior style a sportier look.

Wheels and Tyres

Being a limited edition model, the Silverstone was fitted with 20-inch BBS Detroit wheels, an upgrade over the standard items. The alloys on this car are painted in a metallic grey with chrome outers, they would benefit from refurbishment due to some surface corrosion to the painted sections and scratching to the chrome outers.

The wheels are wrapped with Pace Alventi tyres at the front dated 2020, and Sailwin Sportway 56's at the rear all appear to have good tread remaining. Please take a look at the videos and photography for a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

As you would expect from a top of the range Jaguar, the shut lines and panel gaps all look in great condition, upon inspection we noticed some very minor corrosion around the rear nearside arch, a crack in the rear bumper, and some parking dents to the passenger door that you'll see on the images.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

All the Silverstone editions were finished in "Platinum Silver". On this car, the finish is consistent and even with a deep shine and lustre.

There are some age-related stone chips and marks, and this car is suffering from lacquer and paint flaking across the bodywork where the paint meets exterior trim items such door trims, spoiler and badges.

The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good, no major issues were observed. We did notice some flaking around the window surrounds to the black painted trim. The window seals look good too, as do the trim items, and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

A place you'll come to relax - the XKR Silverstone offers the highest quality and comfort.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious ivory full leather, electrically adjustable seats are fitted in this XKR, along with coffee-coloured carpets throughout the cabin.

We didn't notice any major damage, just signs of use in the form of creasing to the driver's bolsters in line with the mileage. The passenger seat bottom has some discolouration, as do some areas of the rear seats, they would benefit from being detailed. The coffee-coloured carpets are in very good condition and overall, the interior is comfortable, welcoming and luxurious.

Dashboard

A spitfire style Burl Walnut dash is fitted and in great shape in this XKR. There are no major signs of wear and tear and Steve reports all the clocks, instruments, and switches are working as you would expect. Looking further around the cabin, the Silverstone edition kick plates on the door sills are present and look good.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The ivory leather over burl walnut steering wheel appears in great shape and presents very nicely within the cabin. This Silverstone edition received a polished automatic gear selector. Take a look at the interior video and high-resolution images to get a real sense of this luxury GT cabin.

Mechanics

A silky smooth supercharged V8 delivers all the power to the refined Silverstone Edition chassis - allowing you to achieve 60MPH in ~5.2 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with a 370BHP supercharged 4.0L AJ-V8 which is limited to a 155MPH top speed. Take a look at the history and paperwork to see the main dealer and specialist services carried out.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view under the car. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the clean mechanics.

Suspension and Brakes

The car was given an upgraded chassis and braking system designed by the Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations team (SVO), featuring Brembo brakes and a sophisticated CATS system (Computer Active Technology Suspension).

Steve mentions the brakes and suspension provide an enjoyable journey with the kind of stopping power and handling you'd expect from a high-performance sports car.

The Drive

Being one of the best variants of XKR you can buy for your money, this Silverstone Edition is highly attractive with a high spec, and upgrades in both the performance and design departments. Check out the On The Road Video to share our experience.

Electrics and Other

We are assured all electrics work exactly as they should and there were no apparent issues on the test drive. The car is fitted with an Alpine audio system.

History and Paperwork

A highly sought-after limited run XKR with both design and performance upgrades, this example being pitched as a drivers car could be a smart buy in to the model.

The Silverstone was produced in the run-up to the British Grand Prix to celebrate the return of Jaguar to Formula 1. The car is coming to auction with ~105,500 miles on the clock. Take a look below to see all the previous service work carried out. Steve will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.
