Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A sleek feline on four wheels, purring with power and elegance, ready to turn heads with every open-air drive.

Project X100 was launched at the Geneva Motor Show on 5th March 1996. Project X100 was the name used for the now more commonly known Jaguar XK8. The new model brought brand new standards to the luxury car market. Available as either a coupe or convertible, the sales expectations were exceeded by far, and the XK8 became the fastest-selling sports car in Jaguar’s history.

The engine choice for the new 2+2 grand tourer was Jaguar’s new 4.0-litre V8 engine, which produced an impressive ~290bhp and ~290lb-ft. Unfortunately, no manual transmission was available in the Jaguar XK8. Instead, it was fitted with an all-new 5-speed electronic automatic transmission, featuring normal and sport modes.

In 1998, the more powerful supercharged XKR joined the XK8. With ~370bhp on tap, the monster featured an Eaton supercharger and a new intercooler. In addition, there were a couple of telltale signs that something extra was packed under the bonnet, such as the louvres in the bonnet to improve airflow, the mesh grille, and the rear spoiler.

Coming to market from ~18 months ownership with our vendor, this 2001 grand tourer XKR ticks all the necessary boxes - the right colour/interior combination, well maintained, 4.0-litre supercharged V8 and low mileage - it comes with a fresh MOT valid until 19.02.2026.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Terry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

We wanted an XKR to use and enjoy taking on tours around the country.

Terry has always been a fan and owner of Jaguar XKs, but the XKR was always one car he wanted to own. Eighteen months ago, he found this exact spec, black/cream low mileage beauty. It was love at first sight and a “no brainer” he told us.

Terry was planning a two month European trip with his wife, however sadly she passed away before the trip. Of course Terry decided to cancel the trip and sell the car, as it wouldn't be the same.

Terry will be available to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The 2001 Jaguar XKR Convertible oozes old-school charm - its curvy silhouette, gaping mesh grille, and sleek headlights make it look like a proper lovable British rogue.

Wheels and Tyres

The original two-piece split rim BBS alloy wheels are generally in good condition; there are a few kerb marks to the polished rims.

Fitted with Pirelli P-Zeros, these have plenty of tread remaining.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the Jaguar is in excellent condition; all the panels appear to align well with a visually equal gaps, and there are no dings or dents to point out.

We've provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished with paint code PED Anthracite Metallic (virtually black), the paintwork is in excellent condition with just a few minor age-related stone chips in keeping with the age of the vehicle.

Images are taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition, with no noticeable scratches or marks. The window trims and seals look in good order. The fabric roof is also in good condition, with just a few minor creases. The headlights and rear lights are in good condition with no damage to the lenses.

Interior

Surrounded by Ivory leather, the XKR has all the creature comforts you would expect from a grand tourer.

Seats and Carpets

Finished with Ivory leather, the Jaguar’s plump luxury seats are in excellent condition, with just a small amount of creasing and a minor amount of wear to the driver’s bolster. The rear seat doesn’t look to have had much use, and the door cards are free from any damage.

Throughout the car, the carpets are clean and tidy, including the factory-fitted mats. Inside the boot, the warning triangle and Jaguar first aid kit are present.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition and finished in two-tone. There is a walnut fascia, which is also in excellent condition, housing the instruments, which are working correctly with no warning lights displayed, and the odometer shows a reading of ~59,793 miles at the time of our visit.

Please see the interior gallery for more high-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Half leather, half wood, the steering wheel is in good condition with very little wear to be seen. The multifunction controls are also in good condition, with no wear to the lettering, and the gear knob is also in good order with no damage to the surround.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

The XKR Convertible’s supercharged 4.0L V8 growls like a well-fed Jaguar ready to pounce.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4.0-litre supercharged V8 fires up without hesitation and comes to a smooth idle. Terry doesn’t report any issues with the running of the car. The automatic gearbox has a smooth change, and as you will know if you’ve ventured into a 4.0-litre supercharged V8, they pull like a train through the gears.

Suspension and Brakes

Finely tuned suspension balances performance and comfort. Being the XKR, the Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) constantly adjusts the suspension to optimise ride quality and cornering performance. No knocks or bangs were heard on our test drive, and everything appeared to be in good order.

With 355mm discs and four-pot Brembo discs and calipers on the front, the braking system is excellent, giving confidence when braking into the corners with no issues reported.

The Drive

The luxurious grand tourer with a supercharged 4.0L V8 produces ~370bhp and reaches 0-60 mph in about ~5.3 seconds, through its 5-speed automatic transmission.

The leather and wood-trimmed cabin exudes classic Jaguar elegance, featuring comfortable seats, a well-insulated soft top, and premium amenities. Its blend of power, refinement, and open-top enjoyment makes it a compelling choice for any GT enthusiast.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics in the car are reported to be working correctly, and the switchgear all looks to be in good order too. The original factory-fitted head-unit is coupled to the boot-mounted CD multichanger.

History and Paperwork

A healthy 17 service stamps grace the pages of this ~59,793-mile example.

The Jaguar comes with a whole host of paperwork for work carried out and parts purchased over the years. There are 17 service stamps that span the ~59,803 miles covered and help to show a well-maintained car.

The Jaguar comes with a fresh MOT valid until 19.02.2026.

Please note the registration number E2 TRC is not included with the sale and will be removed before the auction ends.

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and have also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights whether the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. As you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high-resolution detail—this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to assess the vehicle's condition.

Viewings are also welcomed for all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time—we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car—just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
