Jaguar combined elegant styling and brutal power with the XKR; a supercharged sports convertible with very impressive performance.

Project X100 was first launched in 1996 and was the code name used for what is now known as the Jaguar XK8. The new model brought brand new standards to the luxury car market. Available as either a coupé or convertible, the sales expectations were exceeded by far, and the XK8 became the fastest-selling sports car in Jaguar’s history.

In 1998, the XK8 was joined by the more powerful, supercharged XKR. With ~370 BHP on tap, this supercharged monster featured an Eaton supercharger and a new intercooler. There were a few telltale signs that there was something special under the bonnet, such as the louvres in the bonnet to improve airflow, the mesh grille, and the rear spoiler.

This XKR is coming to market after approximately eight and a half years of ownership with only four previous keepers, and main / specialist dealer history detailing servicing and maintenance. Presented in an attractive Pacific Blue Mica over Oatmeal colourway, it's a lovely specification that gives this supercharged XKR extra appeal.

Meet the owner

I've thoroughly enjoyed owning this XKR, taking it to national Jaguar shows and travelling around the UK with it.

Steve has thoroughly enjoyed ownership of this XKR over the past ~8 years. He has reserved the car for sunny weekends only, which is reflected in its current condition.

He had hoped to keep this example to enjoy for many years during his retirement; however, he needs to create some space on the driveway for his other car. Steve will be on hand to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

A great-looking sports convertible ~22 years on, with its bright Pacific Blue paintwork, mesh grille, and bonnet louvres really setting it apart.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with large Detroit BBS 20" wheels finished in silver, this example looks great and gives the car a sporty appeal. During our visit, the wheels appeared well cared for, with no obvious damage, but there are slight signs of usual wear and just minor kerbing.

The wheels are fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres on the front, dated 2017, and Accelera PH12 tyres at the rear. These also appear to be in great condition, with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking or signs of age on the outside walls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this XKR looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings or dents. Steve reports that in March, he had the rear quarter panels tidied up due to some slight bubbling and minor corrosion.

Paint

Finished in a lovely Pacific Blue Mica, the paint is applied with even coverage and colour across each panel. While we did notice the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front of the car, you'll have to get really close to notice these. There's also some evidence of spray on the driver's door near the leading edge. You can see these small defects in the photos and video below.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this XKR convertible looks great and is in line with the mileage. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discoloration. The window seals also look good and align with the overall condition of the car. You'll notice some condensation in the NS front headlight.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in good condition as well. You can see in the exterior photos that the convertible top is in great condition with no tears or rips. Steve rarely drives the car with the top up, as he drives the car only in dry weather, and over his ownership, he has replaced some elements of the trim with chrome extras made for the American market, such as the mirror caps - these can be easily reversed if the new owner wishes to do so.

Interior

Inside the XKR has a focus on luxury and comfort; the Oatmeal leather trim is elevated with a gloss wood burl finish.

Seats and Carpets

The Oatmeal, heated leather seats with electric control have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect with cherished and careful ownership.

A similar story is told with the door cards and cream carpets.

Dashboard

The dashboard is adorned with a gloss wood burl finish and features three dials in front of the driver.

In this XKR, the dashboard exhibits no signs of major damage or scuffs, and no warning lights are displayed.

The odometer showed a reading of ~93,531 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A leather/wood-wrapped steering wheel is fitted. The original steering wheel is in great condition, aligning with the mileage of the car, and the wooden gear stick looks good too.

Mechanics

Under the bonnet you'll find the XKR is powered by the incredibly powerful 4.0L V8 Supercharged engine block.

Engine and Gearbox

On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, firing up first time with no issues to report, it performed well on the road too. The engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Steve reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth automatic gearbox powering the rear wheels.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a smooth journey on the sweeping country roads.

During our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a sports car from this era, coming to a stop without any fuss too.

The Drive

An extremely fun and powerful drive is offered with the roof down on this Jaguar XKR. Steve has loved using the car for road trips around his hometown on sunny weekends.

On the road with Steve, the car felt tight, exhibiting plenty of power to navigate the road - we didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Steve reports that, to his knowledge, all of the electrics, including the air-con, are functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car. The car comes with a wind deflector and a customised top cover too.

History and Paperwork

10 service stamps, a supercharged 4.0L V8, with the option to fold the roof away - we couldn't think of a better way to spend this summer.

The car is coming out of an ~8.5 year ownership with Steve, covering fewer than 20,000 miles in this time. It boasts plenty of originality, and with the 4.0L V8 Supercharged engine, offers a bit more power compared to the popular XK8s. The car comes with a navy convertible hood, 20" BBS Detroit wheels, chrome accessories, and 12 service stamps. The XKR comes with a current MOT valid until 26.03.2025.
