Originally conceived in 1996, the Jaguar XK was the direct replacement for the ever popular XJS of the time, with the first generation of XK models being marketed as the XK8. Being the first 8 cylinder model since the Daimler 250, the XK8 was the poster car for Jaguars new AJ-V8 engine platform, which provided 4.0L of displacement (later increased to 4.2L) and sharing its platform with the Aston Martin DB7.

This particular example comes to us from ~15 year ownership with only ~35,900 miles on the clock. Very well presented throughout, this is a fine example of a modern British classic which is both comfortable and capable, thanks to its 4.2L V8, boasting many main dealer services and just 2 previous owners and a current MOT valid until 14.09.2024.

Meet the owner

I've always fancied a Jaguar, and this XK8 was everything I wanted; a beautiful body in the right colour and plenty of power.

The XK8 really caught Vaughan's eye thanks to the "Zircon Blue" paintwork, and once he’d driven the car he simply couldn’t walk away. The combination of power, style and comfort had him sold in seconds. Vaughan reported to us "I'm 6ft tall and find the driving position superb, the engine is smooth and very responsive".

Having owned the car for ~10 years already, Vaughan was hoping to keep this example to enjoy for many more years during his retirement. However, due to lack of use recently, he has now decided to part with his XK8 and purchase a converted campervan for trips around the UK and further afield. Exterior

With its Zircon paintwork, 20” split-rim alloys and various 'R' touches throughout, this XK8 offers everything you could want, and more.

Wheels and Tyres

The 15 spoke alloy wheels look great all around on this example, with no major kerb damage noted, just some minor scratches and lacquer imperfections.

They are wrapped in Nexen N Fera SU1 tyres and dated 2019. There appears to be a good amount of tread left on all of them.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this XK8 looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings or dents around the bodywork.

Paint

Finished in "Zircon Blue", the paint is applied with even coverage and colour across each panel. While we did notice the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front of the car, you'll have to get really close to notice these. Additionally, we observed a small mark to the rear bumper, you can see these small imperfections in the photos and video below.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Jaguar XK8 Convertible looks great and is in line with the low mileage. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration. The window seals also look good and align with the overall condition of the car.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in great condition as well. You can see in the exterior photos that the convertible hood is in great condition with no tears or rips noticed.

Interior

The ivory leather interior contrasts beautifully with the exterior, and also highlights the luxurious burl wood dashboard.

Seats and Carpets

The ivory leather seats have held their shape very well over the years, in line with the low mileage nature for this model.

Dashboard

The dashboard in this XK8 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and no warning lights are displayed.

The odometer showed a reading of ~35,861 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A cream 'R' leather-wrapped Jaguar steering wheel is fitted, and is in great condition.

Mechanics

The 4.2L V8 produced ~300BHP, sent to the rear wheels via the 6-speed automatic transmission propelling the car from 0-60MPH in just 5.3 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4.2L V8 engine is the second revision of the original 4.0L V8 initially produced for the XK8, with the extra 0.2L of displacement rounding up the horsepower to ~300BHP. On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed well on the road, the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Vaughan reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth automatic gearbox powering the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the XK8 and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a smooth journey on the sweeping Devonshire roads.

During our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a sports car from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

An extremely fun and enjoyable drive is offered with the roof down on this Jaguar XK8. Vaughan has loved using the car and reserved it only for road trips around his hometown on sunny weekends.

The XK8 fired up the first time with no issues to report. On the road with Vaughan the car felt tight, exhibiting plenty of power to navigate the road. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Vaughan reports that, to his knowledge, all of the electrics are functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.
