Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

One of the last model XK8s to see British roads - this late 2005 Jaguar XK8 4.2S produces ~300bhp from its beefy 4.2L V8 and presents itself beautifully with Copper Black Metallic paintwork and cream leather interior.

Originally conceived in 1996, the Jaguar XK was the direct replacement for the ever popular XJS of the time, with the first generation of XK models being marketed as the XK8. Being the first 8 cylinder model since the Daimler 250, the XK8 was the poster car for Jaguars new AJ-V8 engine platform, which provided 4.0L of displacement (later increased to 4.2L) and sharing its platform with the Aston Martin DB7.

Prior to the release of the second generation of XKs in 2006, Jaguar released the XK8 4.2S Special Edition, including a higher base spec, four new colourways, and special edition badges to celebrate Jaguar's racing heritage.

This particular example comes to us from owner Neil with only ~56,800 miles on the clock. Well presented throughout this is a fine example of a modern British classic which is both comfortable and capable, thanks to its 4.2L V8 producing ~300bhp.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Neil the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The car is both powerful and comfortable, it would make a great GT car for a European road trip and the colour is really eye catching - there won’t be many on the road like it.

The XK8 really caught Neil's eye thanks to the Copper Black Metallic paintwork, and once he’d driven the car he simply couldn’t walk away, the combination of power and comfort had him sold in minutes. Speaking with Neil he says his favourite things about the car are the split rim wheels, cream leather seats, and burl wood dashboard - they give the car a typically ‘Jaguar’ feel and really add to the atmosphere created by the timeless design of Jaguar’s interiors.

This is the first car Neil has bought to sell, Neil wouldn't describe himself as a trader, more of an enthusiast who trades cars as a hobby. In his 6 months ownership, Neil had the car serviced in April and MOTed in August amongst other work to improve the car.

Neil is now looking to move onto his next Jaguar and wants to find this XK8 a new home with a fellow Jaguar enthusiast.

Exterior

With special edition paintwork, 20” split rim alloy wheels, and Jaguar's racing heritage badges - the exterior of the XK8 4.2S is a step up from your standard XK8 in both look and feel.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20” alloy wheels have recently been refurbished as can be seen from their condition, with not a sign of any curb damage on any of the wheels, even the chrome lip is unspoiled and free from oxidation.

The wheels are currently wearing Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres and whilst the tread is still fairly good - we just noticed some minor damage to the sidewall of the NSF tyre in the form of a shallow cut.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the whole is in great condition, with no visually misaligned panels or uneven panel gaps. We are told that the offside rear wheel arch has had some work done in the past to deal with a bit of light corrosion on the inner arch, however the work appears to have been carried out to a good standard with no visible change in the shape of the arch.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Copper Black Metallic paintwork is in very good condition, with no major stone chips, scratches, or other such imperfections.

We are told that the front and rear bumpers have been repainted, a usual process and presumably to deal with stone chipping in the past - this has been done to a high standard.

The rear boot panel has also been painted at some point in the past, again to a good standard - there's just some orange peel and overspray behind the number plate that could do with some attention to really make the car perfect.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass across the car is in good condition, with the windscreen not showing any major chips, cracks, or scratches, only a mild peppering as can be expected with this sort of mileage and age. This does not affect visibility and has not been noted on MOT.

Interior

Jaguar's timeless interior design aesthetic is ever present in the XK8, with its burl wood dashboard, comfortable cream leather interior, and a wide range of modern conveniences - this interior is a very nice place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The cream leather interior of the Jaguar XK8 is both comfortable and nice to look at, with very minimal signs of wear for its age - there's just some very minor wear to the drivers bolster.

Likewise the carpets are in great condition, with very little in the way of damage or wear - the pile is still nice and thick and provides the interior with a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Dashboard

The burl wood dashboard is in near mint condition, with no signs of visible damage or delamination. All clocks and gauges are present, as well as the original tape deck and radio, a nice touch that gives a gentle reminder of the heritage of the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is well presented as with the rest of the interior, showing no signs of heavy wear or visible damage.

Likewise the gearstick is in good condition too and the burl wood surround also showing no signs of damage / cracking which can often be the case.

Mechanics

The 4.2L V8 produces ~300bhp, sent to the rear wheels via the 6 speed automatic transmission and propelling the car from 0-60mph in just 5.3 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4.2L V8 engine is the second revision of the original 4.0L V8 initially produced for the XK8, with the extra 0.2L of displacement rounding up the horsepower to ~300bhp.

During our ‘Cold Start’ video you can see the engine start from cold for the first time in over 24hrs, which it does without hesitation and then settles to a comfortable idle. All the dashboard lights come on at ignition, as expected, and then go off shortly after start.

The engine performs as expected during our ‘On The Road’ where you can watch and listen to the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension, whilst not making any untoward noises during our time with the car, does have some advisories on this year's MOT which can be seen in our paperwork gallery.

The brakes do look to be in good condition and show very minimal signs of lipping on the discs.

The Drive

As to be expected with this calibre of car, the drive the XK8 provides is sublime.

With oodles of class and buckets of comfort, the Jaguar lineage of luxury motoring is once again upheld in this fantastic example of British engineering and with ~300bhp at its disposal the XK8 is certainly no slouch, so why compromise on power or practicality when you can have both with the Jaguar XK8.

Please watch our On the Road video to see us being taken around the local area for a quick run out.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the car we checked for any non working electrics and found nothing to report, the radio, cassette player, headlights, indicators, and air conditioning all work perfectly and without fault, and the assisted entry windows still work as expected too.

Options included heated and electric seats, together with an Alpine music system.

History and Paperwork

With a recent major service under its belt and a current MOT, this Jaguar XK8 is ready and waiting to fall into new ownership.

Neil has provided us with access to a plethora of invoices, service receipts, and general paperwork for the car which is all available to view in our gallery below. The car comes with a service history record and a recent major service too, as well as two keys and the original owners manuals.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
