Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

A luxurious, refined and sporting drive; the XKR-S has genuine pedigree.

Jaguar's ultimate development of their successful X100 XK Grand Tourer arrived in the form of the XKR-S. The original XK hit the market in 1996 as a replacement for the long-toothed XJS. Needless to say, it was received with critical acclaim and placed Jaguar as a maker of innovative, comfortable and enjoyable to drive machines. 2005 heralded the launch of the XKR-S, now powered by the improved, more powerful supercharged variation of the 4.2-litre AJ34, it not only unleashed ~400BHP but those lovely people at Browns Lane chose to remove the electronic speed limiter, so in theory, the car could reach ~174MPH. To differentiate the XKR-S from the less potent versions, a whole raft of improvements became available, to complement the limited series with unique exterior and interior options. The braking was improved by the addition of cross-drilled Brembo brake discs, firmer dampers and lowered springs, anti-roll bars as well as several other cosmetic differences to mark out the limited ~200 car production run.

This car comes to market from ~4 year ownership, with just 2 previous keepers, and is finished in a metallic "Satin Silver" colourway, with a charcoal leather interior and a carbon fibre facia. It comes with Jaguar and independent service history, 2 keys and an MOT to November 2024.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Neil the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The graceful styling, incredible power and impressive practicality is only half of the cars appeal.

Neil bought the car after hearing another Jaguar owner refer to his as 'a gentleman's express!' He viewed 9 cars before buying this one, being pleased with it's presentation, it's excellent service history, and low miles/ownership. The subtle Milltek exhaust sealed the deal. Over the four years of his ownership, he has always kept the car garaged, and kept on top of the maintenance, but hasn’t been afraid to use the car, amassing ~10,000 enjoyable miles in the process.

A recent lack of use, on top of his TVR requiring his attention, means that he has decided to sell the XKR-S. He will be happy to answer any questions about the cars in the comments section below.

Exterior

Its subtle silver finish highlights the graceful lines and well kept condition.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20” multispoke "Sepang" alloys present well, with just a scuff noted on the nearside front rim.

The car has a full set of Pirelli P Zero tyres all of which are less than 3 years old. As a result, they have plenty of tread. Take a look through the digital media on the listing to see the detail.

Bodywork

The exterior is cohesively presented, with just a little corrosion noted on the lower sections of both rear arches. The body is free of any noticeable dents or other damage. The panel fit runs flush with the body and the shut lines are even throughout, with no issues in terms of opening and closing the doors.

The underside of the car looks solid, with some surface corrosion noted on the sill sections of the floor pan where the undercoat has worn away. The engine bay and boot floor appear solid, with no issues spotted inside the wheel wells.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The silver paint has a decent lustre, with a deep shine, smooth finish and consistent even coverage. There are a few minor chips on the nose and bonnet, along with the odd light mark elsewhere but all appear to be treatable and do not distract from the positive presentation.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears to be in great shape, with no issues in regard to its seals. The lighting and lenses are all free of damage and we couldn’t spot any issues with the trim, other than some ageing on the badges.

Interior

A well kept cabin, furnished in leather and carbon fibre, it is a sumptuous place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The Recaro leather sports seats are free of any significant damage, aside from the expected wear on the driver seat, mostly light creasing on the bolster.

The mats and carpets are in good condition, with no suggestions of dampness. The boot is in good order with some marks on the trim.

Dashboard

The cabin exudes luxury and retains its appeal, thanks to Jaguars experience on cabin design. The carbon fibre fittings, leather and plastic trim in good shape.

The switchgear and controls are in excellent condition, and all are said to function as expected with Neil not reporting any electrical glitches. The readouts and dials are all legible, showing ~54,854 during our visit. There are a few light marks on the headlining and rear trim. The door cards are free of scuffs.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel condition is above the expectation of a car of this age, as is the gear lever.

Mechanics

The XKR-S has the best of both worlds; devastating performance contrasted by its supple and comfortable ride.

Engine and Gearbox

As demonstrated during the cold start video, the engine roared into life immediately and the dashboard warning lights remained off. It ran smoothly with no unwanted noises, undulations or hiccups. The exhaust condensation soon cleared as the engine warmed up, with no unwanted smoke thereafter.

The engine presentation was positive, with a little age noted on the metal castings. The car appeared to be free from fluid leaks. It is fitted with a Milltek stainless steel exhaust. The automatic gearbox was proven to function without fault, with kick-down progressing smoothly with no hesitancy.

Suspension and Brakes

The XKR-S has a firmer suspension setting than the standard XKR models but the ride was still absorbent and comfortable. The car handles smoothly, with no unwanted noses heard from the wheels at low speeds. The damping felt positive, gliding over the road with no negative feedback. A couple of notes have been raised in recent invoices.

The factory-fitted cross-drilled Brembo discs are part of the standard set-up on the XKR-S, with no vibrations or grinding noted at any point. They were proven to stop the car very effectively, as observed by an emergency stop.

The Drive

The seductive character of the XKR-S allows the driver to sit back, relax and cruise, but the raw power available in an instant turns the car into a genuine muscle car but with refined manners. Ideal as a long-distance cruiser, the car feels taut and graceful on the move.

We were treated to a brisk straight-line blast up to 60mph, where the combination of the Milltek stainless steel exhaust, and abundant unrestricted power of the 4.2L Supercharged V8 with the roof down made it a genuinely thrilling experience!

Electrics and Other

The car comes with a rear deflector, which has not been used, as well as a Jaguar boot liner. The hood is in very good shape, it was demonstrated to raise and lower without any strains on the motors. It also comes with a hood cover as pictured.

There is also a factory fitted Alpine music system.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from 4 year ownership, 2 former keepers, this top of the range XKR-S has seen regular maintenance and servicing.

First registered by H.A Fox, the Jaguar main dealer in Cheltenham, the car was serviced and maintained by the same dealer for the first ~11 years of its life, with subsequent servicing carried out by an independent Jaguar specialist from then on, resulting in a total of 17 stamps. It comes with a printout of the car's history report at H.A Fox, documenting the servicing as well as repairs and maintenance.

Neil has spent over £3,000 on servicing and maintenance, as well as several sensors. The car comes with two sets of keys and has an MOT until November 2024, and the road tax costs £395. The car also comes with its owners wallet and all of its booklets, unopened first aid kit and a handful of sundry items.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

& 2019 Chassis corrosion

Hello Neil
Im aware these X100’s suffer from corrosion.
I see in the MOT history online using the reg number from 2013, 14 , 15 & 2016 the vehicle suffered from underside corrosions listed as “Dangerous” holes in the floor. Would you pls be kind enough to elaborate on the repairs, how extensive and who by and do you have the invoices! I can’t see them in the files. Pictures would be helpful too. Great cars but after owning a fair few including 6 XKR-S I’m aware of importance of the undercarriages condition.
Kindest Regards
Daniel.
