Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional photographer

The XK is a rich blend of power, style and uncompromised luxury.

As part of Jaguar's re-invention, the original XK did much to bring the illustrious brand up to date and focused on the pleasures and attributes that Jaguar was best known for - grace and pace. The second generation of XK, internally known as the X150 model, was first rolled out in 2006. Noted for its all-aluminium construction and Ian Callum penned styling, the high-performance Grand Tourer was ideally placed as the quintessentially British luxury convertible sports car. The heart and soul of the XK go deeper than just the elegant styling and beautifully crafted interior, there's also the resplendence of that tuneful ~300 hp V8 engine. Equally at home on the urban road as it is for the Riviera cruise, the XK's assured presence, refined manners and responsive performance tick all the boxes needed for a modern-era sportscar that doesn't need to cost the earth to enjoy.

We present you this particularly well-looked-after and stunningly presented 2008 XK convertible in silver and flawless black leather interior. Showing only ~44,570 miles, last serviced around ~1,000 miles ago, it also has 10 service stamps, two keys and comes with a current MOT valid to April 2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Well connected in the Jaguar world, Paul couldn't resist this sparkling example when he first saw it.

We've known Paul for many years now and we have been fortunate to help him find new owners for some very exceptional and rare cars. Paul worked for Jaguar Cars / Jaguar Land Rover as an Engineering Manager for over thirty years. His career took him through core Engineering Design to Special Vehicles and latterly Jaguar Heritage / Jaguar Classic where one of his achievements was the technical strategy and planning for the recent ‘E Type Reborn’ Programme.

He retired from JLR a few years ago in order to peruse his own passion within the classic car business; of course, specialising in Jaguars. So Heritage Classics Ltd was born and Paul now sources and works on Jaguars and other exotics every day. Of course Paul is very well connected in the Jaguar world and when this car came up for sale he couldn't resist buying it, and using it before asking us to find it a new home. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

The exterior condition is exceptionally good for its years, a hallmark of careful ownership, mint some would say.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with upgraded factory option 20" Senta alloy wheels, all are in great shape. A slight scuff was noted on the rim of the nearside rear alloy.

Shod with Dunlop premium Sport Maxx RT tyres, the front pair date from 2012 and the rears are 2016. They all have plenty of tread left as pictured.

Bodywork

The exterior is excellent with no damage noted. The panel fit flush and the doors have even shut lines. The car is in great structural shape, with no issues with the floor pan, boot floor, suspension mounts or engine bay.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The silver paint presents very positively and has a smooth lustre. We didn't spot any distracting marks or chips on the finish. The gleaming condition of the car supports Paul's confirmation that the XK has seen much of its life stored in a garage.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seal are in great shape, with little sign of age. The front headlamp covers are clear and the rest of the lenses present well. The trim is tidy and well-mounted.

The convertible roof opens and closes without issue, and is very clean for the age, again pointing to the cosseted life this car looks to have lived.

Interior

Beautifully presented and reassuringly original, the cabin suggests a careful ownership profile and is truly impressive.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather heated memory seats are in excellent condition. There is very little in terms of wear noted. The carpets and original mats complement the seats and are exceptionally clean and damp-free. The boot looks likes it has hardly been used.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent order, the leather padding and stitching look great. The centre console and facia are free of marks. The dials, controls and switches are clean with no signs of age. All are said to work as expected.

The roof lining, trim and door cards are also above the expectations of a car of this age.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Finishing off the interior, the multi-function steering wheel is wrapped in black leather and looks in great condition in line with mileage. The automatic gear selection is also in great condition.

Mechanics

A smartly presented engine, its low mileage and impressive driving manners highlight how good this car is.

Engine and Gearbox

The car starts up immediately, with no unwanted engine noises. It idles with no undulations and appears to be leak-free. The warning lights on the dashboard remained off. The factory exhaust system on this car sounds particularly appealing and sporty. The engine presentation is pleasing, its regular servicing record helps to reflect this.

The 6-speed automatic gearbox with wheel-mounted paddle shifter operates without fault, with no reports of slippage. It kicks down with ease. Watch the video to see and hear the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The car rides smoothly but firmly with no reports of bangs or thuds from the suspension.

The car brakes evenly, stopping the car without fault. The physical condition of the brakes and pads is notably reassuring.

The Drive

Noted for the sound of the glorious engine, eager to rev with a wonderful burble, the 4.2-litre V8 engine has more pops and crackles than a breakfast cereal. Yet, smooth and docile when not provoked, the car is manageable and refined around town. While very much an all-rounder, the upmarket cabin, trusted specialists, its pin-sharp steering and agility through corners are why the X150 Series of XK are still very much appreciated today.

Designed from the outset as a convertible, the stiffness of the bodyshell is complemented by the lack of creaks and the decent hood seal. It rides without any negative feedback, free of unwanted mechanical noises. Paul knows these cars inside out, no doubt due to his previous development work with Jaguar and knows a decent car when he drives one. With no reports of mechanical headaches, there have been no oil pressure or engine temperature warnings.

Electrics and Other

Paul told us, to his knowledge, all electrics in the car are working as expected.

The black hood is in particularly pleasing condition for its age with no signs of fade. It lowers and raises without fault.

History and Paperwork

Coming in stunning condition for an XK of this ilk, the car comes with a healthy record of servicing over the years, and importantly the condition reflects careful ownership and the modest mileage, this car will be hard to beat we think in terms of condition and value.

The car was sold new by Minster Jaguar in York, there are 5 Jaguar services followed by 5 specialist services. It comes with its full owners wallet, two keys and was last serviced around ~1,000 miles ago. It comes with a current MOT valid to April 2025.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house. This is an auction on behalf of a trade seller and normal auction rules apply, i.e. there is no warranty, no return policy and bids are binding with more info in our terms and conditions.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
