Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The stylish XKR convertible is simply a perfect combination of comfort, luxury and power.

Jaguar is a brand that has produced some brilliant cars, and living up to the past heroes is a tough act to follow. The XKR followed the X150 XK models in 2007, with a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine promising a punchy upgrade without any compromise to its comfort. At the time it was one of the most powerful cars to leave the Coventry factory, the manufacturers had also developed the car properly, meaning that the quality of materials, reliability and finishing were on par with the best. This helped place the XKR firmly in the greats of Brown Lane, which now offers tremendous value for what is arguably one of the stylish cars of the era.

This stunning example only has a recorded 34,232 miles on the clock and has seen just one previous owner, which helps paint a picture of a car that has seen a pampered life. Used during the warmer months of the year, the owner has maintained a yearly service schedule on the car, whether it needed it or not. Finished in a stunning metallic indigo blue finish with a tasteful ivory leather interior, this 2008 edition of the XKR has to be considered one of the most genuine examples currently for sale.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren Rungasamy after meeting Alan the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The car spends 8 months a year in my garage, it needs to be used more!

Alan took the car on as its second owner in 2011, mainly as an occasional car. With a history of prestigious sports cars, the Jaguar's confident power delivery and svelte styling was a good reason as any to add the car to his fleet. Garaged throughout his ownership, it only has 34,232 recorded miles on the clock, adding just 6K during his ownership.

The car benefits from an excellent service history, despite having only being used during the warmer months.

Alan has taken ownership of an Aston Martin, which has softened the blow of selling this beautiful XKR.

Exterior

The XKR still turns heads, its presence creates an understated elegance.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20" Senta alloys are in very good condition, with just the hint of minor signs of age. Importantly there is no evidence of kerbing. Three of the tyres are younger than 3 years old, with the remaining boot being a 2010 item. All are above legal thread.

Bodywork

The panel gaps and fit are very good throughout the car.

The structure of the car, sills, underside, engine bay, inner wings and wheel arches are solid with no evidence of corrosion.

There are a handful of minor dings on the car - mostly on the side panels, all of which can be resolved easily by a specialist. All doors open and close with no resistance or drama.

The mohair fabric roof is in very good condition, with no evidence of outdoor storage.

Paint

The metallic indigo paint lustre is very good, with a deep shine being maintained throughout.

The finish is good, with no issues with the lacquer, although the area below the fuel cap shows minor signs of scuffing.

The nose cone has a series of light scratches, but nothing that has penetrated down to the plastic. There are a small number of chips spotted, mostly observed on the door edges but in keeping with the low mileage and careful use of the car, way above expectations of a car of this age.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good order with no issues noted with the condition, and the rear glass (part of the hood) is well preserved.

The trim has worn well, with no significant wear or damage to be seen.

The headlamps covers are in good condition, with no damage observed on the front or rear covers.

Interior

The quality of materials and craftmanship has worn the years well - it's a lovely place to be.

Seats and Carpets

Firstly, the colour combination of this car is lovely - dark blue exterior contrasting with ivory seats gives the car a classic yet modern feel. Also, the wood choice on these cars is important, and the dark piano-like sections contrast beautifully with the silver fascia. Arguably this car has the most sophisticated combination that still has a modern feel.

The ivory leather seats are in good condition with no issues, just the usual age-related wear as observed on the driver seat. The stitching is intact throughout, with no significant issues regarding discolouration or marks.

The carpet has been well looked after, with no problems with wear showing evidence of low use. The boot carpet follows the same script. The headlining is in good condition, with minor marks but no damage. The door cards are very clean with minimal wear and scuffs.

Dashboard

The leather padded dashboard and console are in good condition, with no issues with the the fascia. The centre console is generally good, with minor scuffs observed on the plastic lower sections and ageing seen on the gearbox plate - a straightforward repair if this bothers the new owner.

The dials, controls and switches are in good condition, with the displays show no issues.

All items are said to be functional, with the air-conditioning being icy-cold.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear stick are in good condition with no issues of note.

Mechanics

The engine rarely breaks out into a sweat, but the big cat is always ready to pounce.

Engine and Gearbox

No problems were observed during the cold start, as is to be expected from a car with such an excellent service history.

No issues are flagged on the dashboard, and the engine reached operating temperature and stayed there.

The semi-automatic gearbox selects and changes well, with no slippage.

The exhaust is in good condition, with no signs of blowing.

Suspension and Brakes

The rear brake pads have been mentioned as an advisory on the MOT, but the owner has suggested it is not a pressing issue at the moment. The discs are in good shape, with no issues with their performance and no evidence of noise.

The suspension components look good as you can see in the images / videos.

The Drive

The car feels tight on the road with the suspension absorbing bumps with no unwanted noises coming from the components.

The steering operates impeccably, with no knocking or straining.

The composed ride feels agile but knowing that the power is on tap is part of the cars considerable appeal.

Electrics and Other

All electrical items, including the retractable roof function, operate exactly as intended.

All of the electronic guides and sensor are said to be fully operational.

History and Paperwork

Regular maintenance, excellent service history and low ownership is all important on these cars - this car has it all.

Registered at Jaguar Stratstone in Edinburgh in 2008, the car was on lease and stayed with its first owner until mid-2011, having done just 22K miles. It was then sold to the current owner by Chiltern of Bovington who has kept on top of the servicing and maintenance on an almost yearly basis whether the car needed it or not.

The car largely due to its low use, has not needed significant attention, with most of the issues pertaining to MOT needs. The main points in recent years are attention to the seat mechanisms and a new battery. The car will not be sold with its current personalised plate which belongs to the owner and will be issued with an age-related plate.

We have actioned our usual checks on the seller, including ID, V5 and a HPi check too.
