Introduction

An exquisite balance of grace, speed and refinement - the Jaguar XKR.

As one of the finest open top cars on the market, the XKR belonged to a new series of premium Jaguars. Fitted with the all-new AJ-V8 engines, it also featured a new aluminium monocoque chassis and construction. The Supercharged XKR is distinguished by its four-way dual exhausts, redesigned front bumper, hood louvres for improved engine airflow and R motifs. Longer, wider yet lighter than the previous generation, the X150 series of XKR was noted for its shift away from the traditional image of Jaguar and firmly placed the model into the modern age.

A facelift in 2009 brought along a new 5.0-litre V8 engine with a rotary gear selector mated to the new ZF automatic transmission. With over 500 bhp, the car offered storming performance, with the refinement and quality expected of the Jaguar brand. Considered an engaging drive, it is also noted for its comfort and excellent road holding.

This 2011 cabriolet is finished in a red wrap with a black leather interior. Highly specified when new with leather trim, sat-nav, electric seats, Bluetooth and active dampers; the car was also originally fitted with the Black Pack trim option.

Owned by our vendor since it was just a few months old, it has seen regular use and maintenance, with over £15k worth of invoices to back this up - superbly presented, it comes with an MOT to January 2025 and has two keys.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Les the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

An ideal car for travelling across Europe, the XKR has been one of the best cars I've owned.

Les has owned several performance cars over the years, often keeping them long-term, while ensuring that any issues have been quickly sorted. Wanting to add his own touch to the car, he chose the colour and added a few trim items to make the car unique without upsetting the balance of the car.

Travelling to Spain on a regular basis, he is delighted with the reliability and build quality of the Jaguar and is only selling the XKR to make way for a new car.

Les will happily answer any questions in the comment section below.

Exterior

Superbly finished in a striking red colourway, the cars presentation will turn heads.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20” 5 spoke alloys show minor kerbing on the outer rims but are otherwise in decent shape.

The car is fitted with a full set of Michelin Tyres - they’re all under 3 years old and have plenty of even tread.

Bodywork

The exterior of the XKR is free of any unsightly distractions. The panel fit and shut lines are positive. The doors open and close with ease and all have good seals.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The car started life in the ever-popular dark grey and was treated to a red wrap by a prestige wrap company in Sutton soon after Les bought the car - mainly due to protecting the paint and having a change of colour. It has been professionally applied with very little evidence of its original colour, aside from minor scuffs which are only noticeable in the passenger door well.

Aside from a minor blister on the driver's side door and a small mark on the boot, the finish presents very well. The lustre is good with a metallic flake finish, which catches the light beautifully.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good condition, although a minor chip was spotted on the base of the windscreen, well below the driver's eye-line and there is also tiny lamination damage mark on the edge. The rest of the glass is free of significant marks. The headlamp lenses show mild signs of age, but otherwise, all are in good condition.

The trim is well-mounted and in decent order. There are a handful of minor marks on the bumpers; a few road wear chips on the lower section of the front bumper, and a minor chip on the rear bumper.

Interior

Quality materials and a great duty of care have kept the interior in great shape.

Seats and Carpets

The cabin is well presented and above the expectation of a car of this age. The driver's seat has mild bolster wear but is otherwise neatly presented. The driver-side seat tipping lever has snapped off but is still operational. All of the other seats are in good shape.

The carpets and mats are in good condition, with no signs of dampness.

Dashboard

The dashboard and centre console are free of any significant marks, and the dials, switches and controls look good - Les confirms all of the functions are in working order.

The cabin trim has lasted well, with mild marks on some of the plastics.

The door cards and headlining are free of significant marks.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function steering wheel is neatly presented and shows very few signs of wear.

Mechanics

Powered by a thunderous ~503 bhp Supercharged V8 engine, the car has proved to be dependable too.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up without any issues, the dashboard warning lights go out immediately. The exhausts are free of smoke, and on the day we didn’t spot any fluid leaks.

The car idles smoothly, with no harshness or unwanted vibrations.

The gear selector operates perfectly and was demonstrated in both normal and sports modes.

Suspension and Brakes

The car rides smoothly with no unwanted knocks or thuds from the suspension and brakes work well with no judders or pulling.

The brake calipers were painted to match the body colour. The discs are in good visual condition.

The Drive

The XKR offers tremendous value at the moment, considering how much power is available and also presents itself as a design that has aged gracefully. Les pointed out that the XKR drives like a family saloon car in towns, manageable in traffic with positive steering. The cabin was remarkably cosseted at all speeds, with no unwanted noises heard from the wheels.

The car has seen regular use over his ~13 year ownership, which has no doubt helped account for its reliability and dependability. There are no reports of oil or engine temperature issues. We were treated to a brief blast along the A3, which amply demonstrated how smoothly the car pulls. The Supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine sounds magnificent when unleashed, the throaty roar of the exhaust is intoxicating. On long runs, Les tells us it returns acceptable fuel economy too.

Please watch the on-the-road video to see the drive for yourself.

Electrics and Other

We didn't test all the electrics during our visit but Les told us that everything was in working order. The electric hood operation is seamless, with the motors working perfectly without strain. The canvas hood is in good shape, with minor signs of age spotted on the thin rubber stitching strips.

History and Paperwork

The car comes with ~£15,000 worth of invoices - reassuring to know the car has been looked after.

Ordered for one of Jaguar’s executives when new, this highly specified model was delivered to Les by Jaguar Guildford with just 2,341 miles on the clock in December 2011. Initially finished in dark grey with the black pack trim option, Les asked the dealer to replace the wheels and badging. He then finished the car off with a professionally applied wrap in red - protecting the paint since then.

The service book shows main dealer servicing up to ~29,000 miles and then maintained by an independent specialist afterwards. Some of the work carried out in the last three years includes a replacement supercharger pump, water pump, new engine timing chains, guides and tensioners, new dampers, engine cam cover gaskets, all-round new discs, pads, sensors and a new alternator. The car has also passed every MOT without an advisory.

It comes with two keys, was last serviced at 72,401 miles and has an MOT to January 2025. Please note the private plate will be retained by Les and it will be issued with its original registration.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Les will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

    Hi,

Yes, it ran through auction but was not sold as it didn’t meet reserve. The reserve has been lowered now giving someone the opportunity to secure the car this year.

    Thanks,
    Colin.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
