Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

A one owner from new F-Type that comes fitted with arguably the one-to-have engine; the awesome 3.0L V6 S.

The Jaguar F-Type was big news when launched in 2013, the F-Type was praised as being the sportiest Jaguar since the XJ220. And the eager press and public were not disappointed. As a genuine two-seater sports car, not only did the F-Type coupe and roadster undercut their rivals for the price but also filled a niche that slotted in-between the V8 market and the compact mainstream sports car. Visually taking more than a fair share of styling cues from the C-X16 concept car, it was available with two engine options, with this V6 S model being the most sought after version. A step up from the entry-level model, the Supercharged 375bhp V6 offers a pure aural orchestration thanks to the active exhaust system.

Obviously, being a Jaguar it wasn’t just about the engine, the build quality, the badge, choice of materials, practicality and the styling often vie for first place in pub conversations when one might discuss the best reason to buy an F-Type. Not convinced? The V6 S model has a power advantage of a period 911 Carrera cabriolet, and while it was considerably cheaper than the Porsche when new, it’s worth noting how much they would cost you to buy today.

Lauded as a genuine replacement for the classic E-Type, the F-Type doesn’t disappoint. This car was bought new by its current owner in 2013 and has just collected under 47,000 miles in its lifetime. The owner added over 3K worth of options which can be viewed in the paperwork section. Finished in a subtle grey with 19” wheels and wider sills, complete with discreet badging, this car comes with Jaguar service history and the promise of an intact reputation and talent that hasn’t been diminished by time.

The F-Type simply fulfils every need for the discerning petrolhead at a realistic budget.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Could David's recent loss of garage space be the start of your love affair with this awesome machine?

David bought the car new in 2013, swayed by the car's abilities and its devilishly good looks. He relocated to a new house in the summer of 2020, which sadly didn't come with a garage. With its lack of use in recent months, David has asked us to find a new owner.

Exterior

Surprisingly practical, the F-Type also combines comfort and drop-dead gorgeous looks.

Wheels and Tyres

The front tyres are Pirellis P-Zeros and were fitted on the car in 2019, with the rears shod with Michelin that were fitted shortly before. All are in legal condition. The alloys have suffered from light kerbing and would benefit some attention by a specialist, but they are no signs of significant damage.

Bodywork

The Bodywork is in good condition, with no signs of surface corrosion or major dents.

Some of the lower potions of the body have the smallest signs of parking mishaps but nothing to distract the eye.

The door panel gaps are good, the auto soft roof fit is excellent. The roof shows minor signs of outdoor storage which is put down to lack of recent use but it is rip free and would clean up very nicely.

Paint

The finish is good throughout the body, there are no significant paint chips on the front of the car, but the bumpers and door have minor scuffs, which could easily be rectified by a specialist and / or even be polished out.

Due to the location of David's place and the recent winter months, the car could do with a thorough detailing to bring it back to its best - satisfying Sunday jobs we think.

Glass and Trim

No significant issues can be seen on the glass, the smallest amount of condensation was observed on the top section of the windscreen, but there was no evidence of leaks.

The external trim is complete and in good condition, with rubber and plastic items in generally good condition.

Interior

Luxurious and decked with quality materials, the cabin is an extremely inviting place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The seats have worn well, with no obvious signs of damage. There are small signs of typical age-related wear but there are in line with the mileage and low usage of the car.

The carpets and mats are in good condition but would benefit a deep clean. The door cards and controls are in good condition, with minor marks in line with the age of the car.

Dashboard

The Jaguar quality really shines through, and the appealing dashboard is in good condition with plastics, leather and dials all in good condition, with minimal signs of wear.

The exception is the stop/start button which would benefit a replacement. The function is faultless though.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel shows signs of use, with marks on the padding, but in line with a car of this age and mileage. The gear lever is good. As mentioned, a good detailing would improve the visual appearance.

Mechanics

Sporty and engaging, the Jaguar resurrected the sporting prowess of the brand.

Engine and Gearbox

The owner freely admitted that the car has seen very little use since the autumn, but the car fired up straight away during the cold start.

The expected condensation soon evaporated and the engine settled down to temperature with no issues.

The gearbox is said to be fully functional with no issues.

The exhaust visual condition and operation is good, with no signs of damage or blowing.

Suspension and Brakes

Visually the discs showed a light coating of surface rust, which cleaned up after the car was moved.

There was no signs of the brakes locking up and no squeals. Disc and pad wear look to be in good health. The dampers and general function of the suspension were in line with the F-Types sporty character.

The Drive

The Jaguar can be treated as an effortless drive, with the reward of comfort and serenity, but select a more enthusiastic driver setting and the agility, sharpness and eagerness of the chassis start to shine through.

The ride with the roof down is cosseted thanks to its windscreen design and quality of the build.

The ride is firm but surprisingly comfortable, with the seats provide plenty of support - simply put, one of the best British made sports cars ever to be built.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrical items are said to be fully functional, with nothing to note as a minus. The rear spoiler, the reversing camera and roof operation is 100% functional.

History and Paperwork

On the handful of occasions that it has needed to, the car has been maintained by the main dealer.

The car has seen a water pump replacement, following advice on a recent dealer health check. Brakes and tyres have also seen renewal. The servicing has been maintained by Jaguar Watford and any issues that have come up have been dealt with by the main dealer. The car has also been serviced very recently, the paperwork for this can be available upon request.

There are quite a few F-Types on the market, however, the earlier ones tend to be higher mileages or number of owners. A huge benefit of this car is that David has owned it since new. So there's no guessing the car's history or what type of driver owned it before. It's been a car that David has used, enjoyed and above all well maintained too.

David has set a very low reserve as he really needs to find the car a new owner now. So this means you could end up with an stunning car at not that much money. As you can see, the car is in use and it's tricky to keep the mud at bay at David's place. So the new owner will have a great Sunday detailing the car properly and maybe refresh the alloys at some point. Nice simple jobs to do, especially knowing you'll be saving £thousands compared to dealer prices.

Hi David,

Can you answer a few queries for me on your car. I am very interested, but have a few questions.

1: In the pictures it shows some scratches on the drivers side front area near the wheel arch and onto the bumper lower vents. Can you tell me how this occurred and if it was a low speed impact.

2: in the service documents, it mentions a replacement radiator cowl, how did this come be replaced? it seems a little strange item as its in the engine bay, unless of course it was related to question 1?

3: Normally JLR vehicles are set up to be serviced yearly or if you hit the mileage limit. As yours is a good low mileage example I would expect it to be yearly servicing, but in the history file it shows no service carried out since 21/10/19. This means it is now overdue.

4: on the service that was carried out in 2019 I note it was the 72 month service and the invoice for this is not listed in the photo’s. Are you able to provide this?

5. When the vehicle reaches 6 years old Jaguar recommend that the certain components are changed due to age degradation these include the supercharger belt and serpentine belts. I think normally as part of the 72 month service. Please can you confirm if these have been completed.

Depending on your answers to these I am willing to put in a strong offer.

Many thanks,
Chris

in all the pics and videos the door handles are permanently sticking out when car is running, in motion or with key off etc. i assume there is a problem with the handles not retracting as they should do, but nothing is mentioned in the description of this fault.
makes me wonder is there is anything else has been missed as overall it appears to have not been very well looked after

Thanks for the reply

“Door locks working 100%. The car was stationary and will lock either when moving or when locking with remote key”

However when the car is being driven in the video the door handles are still sticking out which would indicate a fault. They should retract when it’s in motion. Also they should not stick out all the time its being videoed for the whole 10 mins. So your reply doesn’t seem
quite correct

Can you show that the roof mechanism works and also have some photos/film of the interior?

Hi David,

A few questions from me:

(i) in respect to photo 96, is that rust on the bottom corner edge of the door? It’s hard to figure out but please confirm.
(ii) noted the battery is running low (presumably from lack of use) – has this ever been changed during your ownership?
(iii) is the service history all online or do you have a book for this? I’m asking as the the last service is missing from the printout in the photo.

Thanks!

Ash
