Jaguar is a brand that has produced some brilliant cars, and living up to the past heroes is a tough act to follow. The XKR followed the X150 XK models in 2007, with a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine promising a punchy upgrade without compromising its comfort. At the time, it was one of the most powerful cars to leave the Coventry factory. The manufacturer had also developed the car properly, meaning that the quality of materials, reliability, and finishing were on par with the best. This helped place the XKR firmly among the greats of Browns Lane, which now offers tremendous value for what is arguably one of the most stylish cars of the era. A facelift was introduced with minor alterations to the front and rear lights, bumper design, and a brand-new 5.0L V8 under the bonnet; this being an 'R', a supercharger is also installed.

In 2014, some special edition models were released for the run-out of the model, one of which is the fantastic XK Dynamic R. This model took the improved and sharper chassis and suspension from the track-focused XKR-S but still has the GT credentials that made it a hit.

Meet the owner

I wanted something I could use at the weekend, and the XK Dynamic R was perfect for that.

As a fan of big-engined cars, Mike's Jag ticked many boxes when he was looking for a weekend toy. The other deciding factor was that it had to be a coupe, which Mike prefers because he has long legs. The longer doors allow him to sit more comfortably without the B-pillar obscuring his vision.

Even though it was a weekend toy, Mike has clearly spent more time with the Jaguar tucked away rather than driving it, as he's only covered ~3,000 miles in 8 years. A house move now means the car will be used even less, which is the reason for the sale. Mike will be happy to answer and questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Timeless and elegant, with just a few subtle indications that this Jaguar is something quite special.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 20-inch diamond-cut and gloss black alloy wheels are in excellent condition and show no signs of damage. They are fitted with four Pirelli P Zero tyres, which have plenty of tread remaining.

Bodywork

The Jaguar's bodywork is in excellent condition. No dings or dents were spotted when looking around the car, and as expected, the panel gaps match.

Paint

Finished in Ultimate Black, the paintwork is excellent. There are some very light swirl marks, commonly more noticeable on black cars (easily remedied by a professional mop and polish), but importantly and thanks to the extremely low mileage, stone chips are minimal.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in good condition with no noticeable scratches.

The black window trims are also in good order, with no signs of corrosion.

During the visit there was some condensation on the inside of the headlight lenses - the car had been cleaned that morning.

Interior

The Ivory leather brings a light and airy feel inside the cockpit of the XK Dynamic R.

Seats and Carpets

The Ivory leather sports seats are in fantastic condition and show only minimal signs of age, thanks to their little use. The carpets are clean and tidy, and there is also a set of factory-fitted mats, which are also in good condition.

Dashboard

The XK's leather-clad dashboard is in fine order, with no signs of damage or scuffs. The instruments are working correctly, and no warning lights are displayed when the car is running.

The odometer shows a reading of ~22,287 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with a leather steering wheel, this has the usual multifunction controls and paddle-shifters to the rear, and should you need reminding, there is an R logo present on the middle spoke.

The central gear controller rises from the centre console once the car is running.

Mechanics

Unleash the beast - ~510bhp of supercharged fury, with a soundtrack to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention.

Engine and Gearbox

The 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 fires up without hesitation and sounds fantastic. The sound can also be enhanced by pressing a button to activate the switchable exhaust. As expected, the car runs superbly, with just over ~22,000 miles, and no issues have been reported.

Fitted with a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox, the change is smooth going through the range, and as you can imagine, with ~510bhp on tap, the big cat pulls exceptionally well. Traction is aided by Jaguar’s Active Differential Control technology, allowing for ultimate traction and precision through and out of the corners.

Suspension and Brakes

The XK Dynamic R incorporates suspension technology from the XKR-S, which has uprated springs and damper settings, along with Jaguar’s Active Dynamics System that keeps an eye on the vertical body movement, roll and pitch rate, all done 100 times every second!

The brakes bring the big cat to a stop, as expected, and the discs and pads do not show excessive wear.

The Drive

On the road, the Jaguar XK Dynamic R delivers an exhilarating driving experience, blending grand touring luxury with serious performance. The adaptive suspension, revised dampers, and performance brakes ensure sharp handling without sacrificing comfort, making it equally at home on winding country roads or long motorway cruises.

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear is in excellent condition thanks to the super low mileage; the original seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system features satellite navigation and a reversing camera and sits within the classy piano black trim, which is also in excellent condition.
