Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A luxury saloon blending British elegance with performance and cutting-edge technology – what a package!

The redesigned XJ (X351) was unveiled at the Saatchi Gallery in 2009. In keeping with Ian Callum’s new design direction for Jaguar, the car was updated with a completely new exterior and interior. The XJ features a new aggressive front grille and swooping taillights, nicknamed the "cat claws". This XJ comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0L Ford AJD V6 diesel, which outputs a mighty ~271 bhp and is also found in the Range Rover and F-Pace.

Coming from ~3 years ownership with our vendor and only 2 former keepers, it has an average of just ~4,500 miles per year. This luxury Jaguar is in nice condition that could be elevated, comes with annual servicing record, reflecting consistent maintenance, and 2 sets of keys and current MOT valid until 08.02.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Raymond the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Coming from almost three and a half years ownership, the Jaguar has been a fantastic luxury saloon for the vendor.

Purchased as a premium luxury saloon by Raymond and his partner Michelle, the Jaguar XJ R-Sport seamlessly combined exhilarating performance with high-end creature comforts and cutting-edge technology.

Over the course of his ~3.5 year ownership, Raymond found the car to be not only stylish and sophisticated but also practical and reliable. From its smooth handling and powerful engine to its plush interior finishes and advanced infotainment system, the XJ R-Sport catered to his every need, whether for long drives or everyday commuting around the city. The car’s impeccable design, both inside and out, delivered a driving experience that was consistently refined, comfortable, and enjoyable, making it a standout vehicle in every aspect. Raymond will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The Jaguar XJ R-Sport boasts sleek, dynamic styling with a bold front grille, sharp lines, and elegant cat-claw taillights that emphasise its sporty yet luxurious appeal.

Wheels and Tyres

The split five-spoke alloy wheels have been repainted at some point in Anthracite. Some of the paint has started to flake off in places with damage from curbing visible too, and so they would benefit from a refurbishment.

The tyres are two different brands, Continental at the front and Invovic at rear, but both have a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery for a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking at the bodywork, the panels appear to align as they should and no issues with opening closing the doors etc. We did notice a small ding in the bonnet, which we think a paint-less dent removal specialist could reduce.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to review all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the car’s condition for yourself.

Paint

Finished in the lovely "Storm Grey", the paintwork is well presented; there are a couple of minor scratches and nicks picked up over time, along with some light swirl marks that a professional detailer could probably remove or at least reduce.

The images have been taken from various angles to show the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion of the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

All of the windows appear in good condition, with no noticeable scratches. The black plastic trims to the windows show their age, most notably on the offside of the car. The panoramic roof works as it should and lets a nice amount of natural light into the cabin.

Both the front and rear lights are in good order, with no damage to the lenses.

Interior

Copious amounts of leather make up the luxury trim of the Jaguar, making it a comfortable and inviting place to be.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in "Carpathian Grey" leather, the electric, heated seats are in excellent condition with very few signs of age other than a tiny amount of creasing. This is mainly noted on the driver’s side, as you would expect; the other seats are in excellent condition, and it's also worth noting that the rear seats are heated. How about that for luxury!

The carpets throughout are in good condition with no sign of excessive wear. There is a set of embroidered Jaguar mats, which are in good order and have just a tiny amount of wear. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The black leather dashboard is in good condition with no scuffs or damage to point out. The large digital 12.3-inch TFT instrument screen is changeable, enabling you to set it from a couple of options to suit your preferred layout. The odometer shows a reading of ~35,976 miles, and there are no warning lights displayed when the car is running.

Please see the interior gallery for more high-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather trimmed, heated steering wheel, shows a light amount of wear on the rim and has a few light marks around the controls on either side, in keeping with the vehicle’s age.

The automatic gear selector rises from the centre console when on, a "Jaguar Land Rover" feature from this era, and there are paddle shifters behind the steering wheel too. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 diesel propels the luxury saloon from 0-60mph in just ~6.2 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0-litre V6 diesel fires up as you would expect without hesitation, and no issues have been reported with how the car runs, which has been helped, of course, by an excellent service history.

The eight-speed automatic gearbox has a smooth shift going up and down the range, with the Jaguar pulling strongly. We've captured the engine in action at start-up, and also a video of the car on the local roads for you to see.

Suspension and Brakes

The XJ R-Sport is equipped with steel coil springs in the front suspension and air suspension exclusively for the rear. It also offers continuously variable damping, which can be adjusted via driver-selectable modes depending on your driving style. But rest assured, this Jaguar can handle like a sports car and equally perform as the luxury saloon it is.

The Drive

Overall, the 2016 Jaguar XJ R-Sport V6 combines luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology. It offers a dynamic driving experience, whether cruising on the motorway or taking on winding B roads. Its bold design and powerful engine may appeal to those seeking something different from traditional luxury saloons.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear in the Jaguar is in excellent condition, and the majority of the settings are controlled via the highly sophisticated 8-inch TFT infotainment display, which is working correctly.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~3.5 year ownership, this low mileage example of the XJ R-Sport V6 diesel comes with an annual service record and presents in good condition with some room for improvement.

The XJ R-Sport comes to market from around three and a half years with Michelle, with the owner’s manuals and two sets keys. There are some previous MOT certificates and a couple of invoices, but the main ones to note are the main dealer service printout, followed by three independent service invoices.

The Jaguar XJ R-Sport was put through an MOT test on 09.02.2024 and passed with no advisories.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We’ve summarised our view of the car based on the information provided by the seller above. However, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the vehicle in high-resolution detail. This has been done so that you can make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So, please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to make your own assessment of the vehicle’s condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time – we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the vehicle – just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
