Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Sharp Italian styling crossed with American V8 power, the built-to-order Jensen Interceptor offered you ultimate power and luxury.

The Jensen Interceptor is a hand-built luxury GT first produced in 1966. The body was designed by an Italian firm, Carrozzeria Touring in Italy, and the power coming from a Chrysler V8 engine, this 1974 example is fitted with the larger 7.2L High Deck Big Block and had the distinction of being the most powerful car ever to have been made by Jensen. These cars were built-to-order and produced in more paint colours than any other model. They also had a wide range of trim options and innumerable specification variations - a hit among many celebrities of the time.

This example has been in current ownership for ~2 years, recently treated to a full respray in blue with the cabin being re-trimmed to a very high standard too. The car comes with a good amount of receipts, showing all the parts that have been replaced in recent years.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Keith the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

The Interceptor offers a sharp-suited Italian jawline like no other, it still looks the part to this day.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jensen wheels finished in silver with black detailing give this Interceptor a lot of character. On this example, the wheels appear well cared for, with no sign of any obvious damage to any of the spokes from our observation.

The wheels are fitted with BF Goodrich tyres all round and these appear to also be in good condition with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking or oblivious signs of age to the sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Interceptor Mk3 looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dings down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp while standing very straight and true.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in this deep blue colour. The paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel. We did notice the odd very small stone chips that have been previous touched up at the front of the car, however, you'll have to get really close to notice these.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Jensen example looks great and in line with the mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome detailing and window surrounds all look in good condition too, with some minor wear and pitting to the original door handles. Take a look at the exterior photos to see these areas in great detail.

Interior

Recently re-trimmed in the black leather, it helps to ensure you get the proper Interceptor experience.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats have held their shape very well over the years, and recently been retrimmed throughout in the current ownership, today they present in very good condition.

A similar story is told with the leather door cards and black carpets. Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a black vinyl finish and presents six black gauges in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this Mk3 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~70,252 miles on our visit. Keith reports the tachometer has recently stopped working and will require some attention.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A Jensen Moto-Lita steering wheel is fitted, with a wooden rim. The steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the wooden gloss automatic gear selector looks good too. Take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

One of the fastest production cars on the road in the '60s, this brawny 7.2L V8 offered ~280BHP.

Engine and Gearbox

Jensens most powerful car, the 7.2L Chrysler V8 provides impressive performance figures. The big block V8 is coupled to a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission which offers a smooth ride no matter what speed you're cruising at, this having been rebuilt in current ownership as part of the restorative work.

Keith reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth automatic three-speed gearbox powering the wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the Interceptor, and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Keith reports the car drives very well, with the suspension offering a very steady and smooth drive, while the brakes system offering safe and prompt stopping power, watch the video to see the car in action.

The Drive

With the 7.2L V8 providing the power and the Italian lines providing the style, the Interceptor is a real experience to drive.

From the era where a 140mph GT car was seen as a wealthy status symbol, today the Interceptor represents an elegant solution to classic motoring, with a very active and extensive owners club.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Keith reports that to his knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

He mentioned the tachometer has recently stopped working and will require some attention.

History and Paperwork

The Interceptor is a collaboration of Italian styling, American power, and British production - after a recent restoration the Jensen is ready for a summer full of enjoyment.

The car is coming out of a ~2 year ownership with Keith. The car has bags of originality and with the Chrysler 7.2L V8 engine which is the real show stopper, making it one of the fastest road production cars of it's time. Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous parts and work this Jensen has received over it's life.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Keith
I notice one of the invoices refers to a heavy oil leak on the engine.
Have you attended to this?
Kind regards
Pete

It’s the fluid on the engine & frame rail not the concreate.

Hi
My question is the same as mburton message. In the On The Road video at 10.02 it shows a fluid leak at the front of the engine and not the back where the bell housing is.

Paul

Hi Keith, on the transmission recondition invoice in Feb this year it mentions heavy engine oil leak, what has been done if anything to investigate or remedy this ?

Hello Keith. The On The Road video, at 10.02 – is that an existing fluid leak or perhaps an old one ?
Regards,
Mark
